One of the most eagerly awaited online role-playing games is approaching the final stretch in its development. The German, English and French versions of The Chronicles of Spellborn are scheduled for release on November 27th, 2008 in Europe. In preparation of the release, the innovative fantasy MMORPG has started into the next phase of the closed beta tests along with a large content patch Wednesday, 17th of September..

The update brings along substantial advancements in the class system, the quest architecture, the fame system and the combat gameplay as well as improvements on art and general game mechanics lifting the game onto a new level of gameplay experience. During the upcoming weeks, developer Spellborn NV and publisher Frogster will invite more selected registered community members into the closed beta tests. A detailed beta and release schedule for The Chronicles of Spellborn will be announced shortly. Interested fantasy adventurers can register via the brand new beta registration on www.tcos.com to get the chance to have a look at the game before the actual release.

There are no official announcements for the US or Asia, but it is likely that it will be released at the same time, since it has been a goal of SIL to have a global launch date.

Nice to know they have a release date finally, hopefully it will turn out to be a good game (stable, has the features listed on their site with the majority of them working reasonably well, nice community/social interaction), if TCOS turns out to be crap I dont think I'll bother with this genre anymore.

    Ohh yes!

Finally a MMO for me to play. One that doesnt have a feature list that sound "tacky".

    Very good news.

That was a different company. The name was sold when the original Acclaim went bancrupt.

Oh, and OP, good of reporting it here, since the management of mmorpg.com seems to be asleep and failed to report it yet.

I must say that this game looks really interesting! Hopefully it will deliver and that enough people will buy it

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Ah nice. Hope I get an beta invite in between too...

To the editors: Perhaps update the info on the frontpage with this news?

You know when you play too much MMO's when your partners pants have become a rare drop.

I'm surprised this info isn't on the front page.  Liked the looks of this game for a long time.

  • I know this has been mentioned before, but their timing couldn't be worse.  It's sad too because the game looks like it has promise and I'd love to see it firsthand, but I doubt I will now that Warhammer is out.

Maybe they'll have an open beta I can try to see how the gameplay is so I can decide if it's worth making the switch.

If your in the US they will have a free beginning area so you can try out the game, I'll be using that to see if I want to buy it, even though I'm pretty sure unless that free area is just terrible I will be getting this game since none of the MMO's out right now are of any interest to me.

They have just annouced that Acclaim will also publish for the uk. Also they seem to imply that the game will be marketed now as free to play with access to premium content. Which sounds like it is going to be a bit more than just the starting area that is free to play, hopefully I am wrong I think a lot of people would lose all interest in this game if they plan to make a large portion of it free to play.
