Mythic mistakes, released too many server too early

They should have put only a few servers then slowly add more as the population grows.  Instead they put them all on and the result is very bad.   You either have FULL servers with queues or ghost town servers...

I don't know... at peak hours all the servers are maxed for Destruction, or at least on high population, and the Order is from medium to high.  I don't see how they could have any less servers really.  I do agree, though, that at certain hours of the day every server is at low population.

No, see, people are to blame here.  When everyone chooses to play on five servers because they like the name better, it's no one's fault but their own.  Mythic even cloned the massive servers, allowing people to move to less populated servers and to alleviate the problems.  Guess what no one did.

I think they had a decent number of servers but then they tried the cloning thing and it just didnt' work out since the player base didn't decide to move. Now they have extra servers because of the clones but the original overpopulated servers are still overpopulated.

If they had released fewer servers, you can bet the OP would be here complaining about waiting to get onto his server, and complaining that they should have released more servers.

If you hate ghost towns try to travel to the other race maps, i find that the chaos vs empire maps is usualy the most populated, and i see plenty of characters from the dwarf vs orc and elf maps there.

Yeah, too many servers. But, that really doesn't bother me.

I'm really enjoying the game and played some scenarios against other players. Fun. I liked it.

My only complaints so far is lack of character customization. And this is magnified by the lack of character classes for each race. I wanted so much to be a Witch Hunter but when I got into the game and saw 20 of them running around just in my area and they all looked the same....bleh!

So off I went to create a Warrior Priest. I saw about 10 of them running around at the start all looking the same. But, not as bad as the horde of Witch Hunters for humans or the horde of Witch Elves for the Dark Elves. For the Gobbos, all the squigs jumping around was heart breaking.

I think the cutting of classes may have been a mistake or the non-inclusion of more classes was a mistake. Need more character customization.

But, so far, other than those things listed above, I'm having a blast.

Are you kidding me OP?  Its the middle of the afternoon and I'm already in a 100 person queue on my server.  They didn't release to many people just Didn't Spread out as much as anticipated and even then most servers are Med to High.

You know the reason your seeing so many witch hunters is that you start at the empire race map...

If you dont want to see a bunch of witch hunters fly to the dwarf map or the elf map.

Also you can dye your equipment (pimary and secondary) relativly cheap at every merchant (just about every merchant)

I think they put out too many.   They should have let all desto sides reach max cap and force all desto to wait in queues so more would roll order.

I agree with this...Since this game is mostly about interaction with other players...If you get on a low population server...You will truly not get to experience the true greatness of this game..

dunno if this eu or usa.. but eu servers are terrible. chat lag at times reaches 2-5 minutes.. .. general lag seems to be gone.. but sometimes its still there.. playing on high order queued dest realm. still feels like ghost town due the fact that servers are capped on 1k.. playerbase .. 500 one 500 another.. or maybe 2k.. but i doubt ..pqs.. aint happening.. scenarios yes. .but you need 10 ppl for that..

world pvp.. sometimes forms ups.. way too little.. and not as many ppl as you need to actually take down castle.. specialy if you order..

game is breathtaking.. yet poor performance. in certain areas.. empire t2.. anyone .. ?

non existang server performace.. is what killing this game..  if you say its fine.. i dunno how blind you are..

same as i made threat week ago about alt tab bug.. and everyone started flaming that its my pc. or even my gpu.. lmao.. and now 80% have it from time to time..

as 99% agees that server lags. chat lags.. and server population is just too small.. and i dont see it increasing.. as it already lags .. at peak times..

sure when everyone is 40 rank.. we will have same 500 ppl to kill.. talk about massive..

Just some info for you all:

And I think it is a rather imortant one:

The biggest problem of WAR is the capped 500/500 servers btw. And that's a technical issue not so easily solved.

They are limited because of the server lag you can see in the bigger fights (players who suddenly "jump" 5 - 10 meters). They lowered simply the number of players per server to resolve it.... but this will create problems in the long run: 500 people on each side will thin out the population and result in scenario waiting times of extreme length, too thin populated areas over 4 Tiers etc ...

I even think this was the reason they left out the 4 other capitols. 500 people playing on one side is just too few to have any meaningful number in 6 capitol sieges.

In Beta the lag was more obvious but the servers weren't as capped as now. They HAD to lower the caps to have a better performance. Remember the lag between spells being cast etc ... ?

Like we didn't already know: there are NO last minute miracle patches in software land.

Nope, I think exactly the opposite. Gives more players the option of playing isolated (at least as much as they can in an MMO) or if they want the option to play with many people if you join a populated server. It also gives the option to not have to wait in a queue, or be forced to play on a specific allegiance.

I am considering getting this game but I must admit that the severe lack of choice is one of the things that has been putting me off. Its inevitable that you're gonna see endless clones of yourself running around. I watched a video of the character customisation and from what I saw you can basicly change the avatars face and thats it. So......VERY limited choice of class and VERY limited customisation of the avatar.

Damn it! I know I'm still gonna cave in and buy it! Grrrrr

     Crunchyblack, you are correct. Sorry.

I just figured out the dye part. Of course it doesn't work on starter gear. But, I now look unique compared to everyone else. I was wrong there, but I still would like to see more customisation concerning hair, beard, scars, height, etc.

At first I wasn't terribly impressed with this game. But, the more I am learning about it the better it is becoming for me.

I decided to stick with the Warrior Priest. I love this character. The region scenarios are a blast. Still learning about Renown. And the lore book or whatever it is called is pretty cool, too. The more you play, the more lore is revealed to you. Nice touch.

500/500? Not quite, LOL. Its more like 5000 on each side.

There is so much to do on here, its just such an amazing game. I cancelled WoW and will not be returning.

  • Not sure if this is a real mistake or what but there are some real low pop servers.  The one I am on is one of the lowest although it is growing in population only sometimes hitting medium on either side.  But it makes it hard on just about everything both PvP and PvE to not have many people around.  Queus are very slow, PQs are hard to get enough ppl for, T2+ RvR gets hard to do much in.

Destro took all the keeps eariler today while no one was on.  It was really hard to get people to together even with the incentive and there were simply not enough healers even logged in to do it right.  We got a decent group together but I basically sent tells to everyone on server above level 9 to get 14 people together.  And we couldn't quite take the keep because of not enough healer and most people being like level13.

I know for fact some people leave the low pop servers because of this sort of stuff.  And for WAR in particular it is especially important.

From my count there are roughly 6-7 servers in this state.  I doubt it will last forever but it is a tricky problem.

5000 active players on each side would overwhelm the zones.  Honestly, that is a mammoth amount of people for one server to be online at one time.

On my server tonight, order side, I went for a few hours trying to do public quests, but the T1 zones were just dead.  500 per side doesn't sound like a lot of people, but I'm sure 5000 isn't even close.

Just shows how clueless you are. Go tell Mythic so they can laugh in your face, they hardly even get close to 5000 total for the whole server in the preview weekends, thinking it's 5000 per side (Concurrent!) is just ludicrous.
