So decied to go for a healer class. I always started over cous, i didnet really kno what i would go for, and i have asked sometimes on these forums about some classes, but i finaly kno what role i wanna play as, and thats a healer. My friend have a rune priest, so i dont wanna role that 1, and i dont like the WP, i dont like the way they have to heal by fighting, heal good that is, i rather stay back and look whos need to the heal, and heal when they need it. Ofc do damage if no one wanna.
What i wanna ask is. Archmages, are they good healer? Do they have good hot and direct heals compaired to the other healer classes? I think they look cool, some say they are to magical, but i like them, just dont know how good they are really. I played one in beta, to level 4, they had ok DOT and HOTs, just hope it stays that way in the later levels.
what do you guys know about the archmages?
thx for all the help on the forum, helped me alot, cous i know now what role i wanna play

love my archmage. I'm a career healer, every MMO I play. Archmage seems like the least durable healer, but more than makes up for it in offense. Its a very enjoyable class with plenty of heals, just a bit hard to play when you're being focused on by the enemy. in tier 1 I was able to top healing every scenario while still being in the top 5 (both sides) in damage. in tier 2 I can still top healing, sometimes 2nd or 3rd place, but have started to lag behind on damage because I have to focus more on the healing.
I suggest you give it a try. really need to hit level 7 or 8 to get your fragile heal in order to become a really nice healer. after that find a 10+ tank who can guard you and you'll do great. I wish you luck with it.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
Just remember a good Archmage tosses up some HOTS (heal over time spells) once in awhile to keep some of their group alive.
The Archmage (and this is totally my opinion based off a small portion of playing one so far) is a hybrid class. Half ranged DPS and half healer. I can't speak past level 10 but up to that point ALL three of the heals that I have are HOT's of some sort, a shorter kinda burst HOT, a longer HOT and a DOT that heals for tick damage done.
Also three of my damage spells (that I can think of off hand, not including starter initial ranged burst damage spell) are DOT's... really they are the masters of OT type spells.
I may be totally wrong and, again this is based off my experiences only (i did get to play higher level warrior priest and rune priests during different phases of closed beta)...
Archmage = Hybrid healer / ranged dps.
Warrior Priest = Hybrid healer / melee dps.
Rune Priest = Healer.
And to clarify, while I say both the archmage and warrior priests are healer / ranged dps and melee dps respectively, they obviously don't compete with pure ranged or melee dps classes for damage output. Further, I consistently see both the rune priest and archmage competing for the top spot in healing done in scenario's.
If you want to play a healers healer... runepriest. If you want to play something a bit more dps'ey... i think you get the picture.
Good luck and see ya on the battlefield.

Get the most out of your Archmage by casting several healing spells then a damage. Or reverse, cast several damage spells then a heal.
i hope the range dps part wont ruin the healer part of the class, cous i wanna be a ok healer, and be a ok part of the group, so i hope they áre ok healers anyway.
The HOT part, isent that bad? i mean direct heals isent that ALOT better than HOTS?
I dont wanna be runepriest, cous my friend have 1, so wanted to be a diffrent healer

I would agree with the hybrid ranged dps/ hybrid healer comment. The cool thing I like about the AM is that you can spec either way. Around lvl 13 you start getting spells that take away action points which I find very useful. In large raids I have been used as a primary healer but when we are just kicking ass, I am able to do some ok damage. The ability to rez is also extremely useful.
In scenerios I have found that I get about the same dmg and healing. Its all about playstyle. If you like being a caster and want a balanced class, then I think this is the best. The AM is definely VERY squishy but I have been able to hold my own on occasion. The ability to run while casting is also very useful.
Overall I am loving this class so far. I just hope that when I spec dmg that Ill be able to do some decent dps in the higher levels.

If you play as more of a predictive healer than a reactive healer you should be fine. Archmage can be an effective healer.
it sounds like they get alot of HOTs, what about direct damage, do they get some of those aswell?

The archmage/Shaman is the master of the 'over time' abilities. Their heals and damage are focused around that concept, though they do have some direct heals and direct damage. They are quite effective as healers and damage dealers, in tier 1 I would regularly get around 10k of each in scenarios. It really depends on your playstyle. As others have said, they aren't strong with direct heals, but are with hot's. Same with damage, they're not strong on DD, but DoT's. The benefit is, casting more of one side of the equation strengthens the other, ie. if you cast a lot of damage spells, the next healing spell will have its casting time reduced as well as be more effective.
Actually hots can be better than direct heals sometimes, for instant heals when you're in a pitch and about to die than obviously a direct heal will be better but at the start of a fight or even during the fight hots are better because they help mitigate damage done to someone. I hate to use this example but in WoW killing a druid that was heal spec was nearly impossible because his hots could out heal your damage. It just depends what the situation is. And the AM also gets some direct heals in case you need one, the first heal you have is a hybrid with an initial heal burst and then a hot
