Americans aren't the worst. I live in Australia and we're pretty bad here. Been to the states and it is an issue. Have a cousin teaching in Japan and its pretty bad there for us gaijin. The english are pretty bad. But having just come back from six months in europe I'd have to say some places there are really bad. Russia. Germany. Bulgaria. Romania. Greece. Albania. Kosovo. Croatia. Macedonia. Austria. Just about every country has there own special hate for another country. And the roma cop it from everyone.

Racism's nothing new. I suppose its really only in the multi-ethnic communities that you see it so often. And when theres money to be made from it, of course it's going to be a big issue.

That has to be the most ignorant thing I have ever seen. But you never do suprise me.

Yeah, the US is so racist and the most hypocritical country this country www.ess.uwe.ac.uk/Kosovo/Kosovo-Massacres.htm just pales in comparison.

Get out in the world and read up on it. Stop acting so sheltered and ignorant. Next time you declare the US is the most hypocritical country, look in your own backyard:

So, your method of disproving my statement is too turn it back on canada.  You are the only one sounding sheltered and ignorant.

Yeah canada has some racism, was that my arguement, canada isnt racist? Im quite certain i said America is the most hypocritical racist country, guess which word was the key word.

Perhaps you should learn how to argue, The US is one of the most hypocritical racist and intolrant countries.  And trust me, when we compare education systems, i know moe about the world then you do. And if you count the entire history of the US, they have commited more acts of general racism then any other country in the world, From massacring the indians, slavery, what they did to teh japanese during the war, the a bomb, what they did to the vietnamese during that war, and the koreans, and everyone brown during 9/11 just to rhyme some things off the top of my head.

If i were too go through and start linking racist acts committed by the US within the last week, adn not the last 6 years like you had too, i would be able to flood this thread 4 pages over.

But discussing US racism is so yesterday,  and so limiting, especially when you can talk about their general hate towards everything that isnt christian, and how many ways they can invade other countries, and force democracy and capticalism, under the guise of freedom, what is it, Pakistan next or Iran? No matter, they both will be ready for a McDonalds in under a decade.

Mean while, back home, the country is still failing, the healthcare still sucks, the corperation still run the entire country, and the stupidest generation in the world is about to take over.

Sheltered and ignorant, lets not turn this into a debate about intelligence, given our age difference, you wouldnt enjoy how it would turn out.

I have traveled throughout the world, met everyone from high to low in private and public sector, and the USA always impresses me.  The average, decedent American.

Racism is big business in the USA; lots of free money, hand-outs, jobs, and opportunities.  Most people know this but if you "make-it" you better participate in the charade.

I agree, anyone who thinks the us is not one or the most racist country in the world is deluded. The UK has to come second or equal to the USA. I will say that in the US you can achieve more as a ethnic minority than you can in the UK.

Yeah, racism is alive and well in the USA...but not in the way most of you are thinking.
the US bends over backward to accomodate those of other races. However, the courtesy is not reciprocated.
Example.....Black man gets a flat tire in a white suburb. Gets out, changes the tire, and drives away.
White man gets a flat tire in the ghetto....he's not going to make it to the trunk.
And don't tell me it's because of something that our ancestors did. First off...how's that OUR faults? we weren't even alive then.
Second off....if that is their excuse, then why aren't NATIVE Americans behaving in the same fashion?
I am not a racist, mind you. I give every human the same chance regardless of color, religion, etc.
HOWEVER...after a while, after enough years go by, after traveling, and meeting people, and spending enough time among Americans....you begine to realise the sad truth. The one that everyone wants to deny.
    The stereotypes are true.
And I have a legitimate question here. Why do we have Black History Month....Black Entertainment Television....but no hispanic history month....or oriental entertainment television?

...PS...I'm less worried about racism, than I am about religious bigotry. Anyone who's not Xian in this country  is a second-rate citizen it seems, in a BEST case scenario.

This is the very definition of racism. You heard me. You are a racist.

Until you have met EVERY LAST minority, you cannot judge them all.

That's a tricky question. Especially when you put the "towards our own people" qualifier in the question.

I spend a lot time on the south side of Chicago, visiting in-laws mostly, and I have this little game I play: I count how many black police officers I see during my visit. The last time I spent two weeks for the attending of a funeral, my wife has a BIG family, and I counted exactly two African-American policemen. The rest were whiter than sour cream and very visibly terrified of their surroundings.

Meanwhile, I've never had any problems at all in any of the black neighborhoods I've been in. A few dirty looks and the occasional ignorant comment, but nothing worth getting up in arms about. Although, as my wife explained, most of that is due to the threat of reprisal from the white establishment. The running joke is that if a fire fight were to break out on the street, I would be the only person that didn't get hit. Why? Because if so much as a hair on my head is out of place, there'll be about forty black people rounded up and arrested for assault. The quickest way to get the police to your house is to say that there's a white woman in danger <nyuk, nyuk, nyuk>...

On the flip side, I found out that there's a considerable klan presence in the factory where I work. I'm currently looking for another job due to this. It's funny because there aren't really very many black people in this town. I'm just kind of perplexed as to what these klansmen feel so damn threatened by. At any rate...

There is and there isn't a lot of racism in the U.S. It's a complicated issue for us. A more compelling question is what functional purpose does racism have in regards to human nature? Not one society, nation, civilization, etc. has been without racism of one form or another. Why? A social institution doesn't move across time and boundaries unless it serves some kind of basic human need. I have a feeling that if we want to erase racism, we have to find an alternative way of fulfilling that need.

Racism is such a harsh word. It means that one race is more superior over another. Discrimination and dislike fits this more. However, racism is most prevalent in eastern Europe and Africa where one ethnic group will usually try ethnic cleansing, and this happens constantly. US is nowhere near that level. Supporting declaredemer had said, I've traveled around and seen many things for myself. In most asian countries I've been to, discrimination and dislike for westerners is VERY common. Examples are: "That stupid white person." "Take advantage of white people, they know nothing." or my favorite "White are idiots." In Hong Kong and Taiwan, dislike for the Chinese mainlanders is very common and you can hear "those dirty trashy chinese pigs" on a daily basis. As for what Pyrich said, the Japanese are very...how do you say....keep to themselves to a high degree. They dislike anyone who isn't Japanese and will sometimes attempt to isolate or make them social outcasts.
