Beta... When?

RigonnRigonn Member Posts: 79

I have been confirmed to be one of the winners to the SGW Beta BUT I have not yet gotten an email nor any type of message of how to download or how to even get my key. Do we have to wait for everyone's approval or how does it work?

kinda gotta  be patient i was in beta for roma victor didnt receive a key till like a month later damn that was one boring ass game though

Yeah. The contest rules state that although you win a beta key, it is up to CME as to when they will be handing out those keys and actually letting the winners in to the beta. I suspect it will be a number of weeks before the winners are actually brought into the beta.

CME has a lot of people upset right now with Beta keys. TTH members were supposed to receive info on the 19th for beta as well. Go check out the offical forums.

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

I have been in this boat a couple of times over the years and I have found that it is generally around 2 weeks after all the competition wins have been verified that the keys are emailed to the winners.

Be on your guard for the email as they are automated and therefore can be caught up in any spam filters or junk mail detector that you have.  So check those junk filters on a daily basis.

And remember you are TESTING first.  PLAYING second.  Find a fault and report it and have fun in the process.  You are now working (for free) in the video-games industry.

I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.

2 weeks aint bad but for the TESTING first PLAYING second... I think if it's a BETA you should TEST.... *official game launch* THEN relax and enjoy the gameplay.

Only partially agree. Testing IS playing in many ways. Generally the devs specify what they would like testers to test (lvl bumps, certain zones, systems), but you also are playing the game, levelling and doing what the live testers will do, so by just playing the game, you'll run across many bugs that need to be squashed.

Testing itself to me is part playing, and part trying to get where you shouldn't be, doing things that you shouldn't be able to, and trying to find short-cuts in any form. Sometimes you have to try and re-create the bug/glitch many many times to properly log it.

I can't wait till I get my key, been awhile since I did some testing.

I agree with you to a certain extent but in my honest opinion you are really not enjoying the gameplay of a game when you are constantly keeping an eye out for some type of problem. Stargate is an awsome series which I would LOVE to just take as much time going through the game as I can because the essence of a game is something completely different to how it runs or what it can or can't do. Hence the reason I state that Testing comes first and actually enjoying a game comes once it's nicely packed in a box.

  • Die_ScreamDie_Scream Member Posts: 1,785
True, but the essence of the game, the feel and general impressions are also a large part of testing. Sometimes it's not a bug so much as its reporting dialog that the show charactor would never say, or when you get a pop up box after a mission asking for a 1 in 5 rating and comments.

Actually, I guess all im really saying is that testing is playing and everything else, lol!

So yeah... we already knew that hehe (goes to get some coffee).

Testing IS playing, I've beta tested a load of MMORPG's, and from experience, if you don't enjoy the game you're testing, you aren't going to last long as a tester, as that is what generally pushes you to kill all those bugs, glitches etc in a game, to get the game perfect, so you can enjoy the game even more. I don't apply to beta test games which i don't think i'll enjoy testing, because generally, i wouldn't do as good a job at testing if i didn't enjoy the game.

I agree.  Beta is pointless unless it is in some way rewarding.  So have fun but if you spot an error and dont report it or check if it is known then you shouldnt really be there.

And the first person to moan that <whatever> doesn't work should be beaten to death with their keyboard.

    A general query

The people who won amongst the 100 or 500 beta keys on this site now. Is it for closed beta thats supposed to start this month or open beta thats supposed to start in

  • chriswsmchriswsm Member UncommonPosts: 383

The details I recerived implied that it was a closed beta

The Beta hasn't started yet I do believe they will announce it when it starts.

And I'm a little confused please clarify, are you saying that you entered the contest here at MMORPG.com and won?  If you are chances are they will send you an e-mail with instructions as to how to DL it when the beta actually starts.

However if you simply signed up for beta on the SGW official site you probably just got a confirmation e-mail saying you signed up for it and haven't actually won a spot yet.

Either way saying in public that you've won a spot in the beta is breaking the Non Disclosure Agreement.  And can get you kicked out of said beta so if by some means you win a spot discreation should be observed.

And to state my thoughts it has always been my belief that beta testing is for testing the game, finding and reporting bugs, and making the game better for everyone.  Its perfectly alright to have fun while doing this but the primary purpose of betas are to tes,t and I find it a pity that some just view them as a free trial.

"What is it that the gamers want from these games and why is it not given to them? We were playing these games ourselves, that's why we know it was not being done. So we moved in the opposite direction. We thought about what the users wanted, what we wanted, and why it wasn't happening and how it could happen." - Tasos Flambouras

Yes, I am one of those who won the contest here on MMORPG.com and I truly understand your point of view on BETA testing, I agree. I'm just excited and want to know when exactly we will be able to join the testing and actually see it.

He won a key from the giveaway contest, besides, he isn't breaking an NDA that hasn't already been broken, anyone can go check the winner list to see who has got a key.

And Don't get me wrong, I don't like people who consider it just to be a free trial, however i still stand by what i said with enjoyment, you don't study the game for bugs, and glitches which should be there as well as you would if you were enjoying it, if you're not enjoying youre self while testing/playing the game

This is true for some beta's but seeing that MMORPG published a list of winners......

I imagine that if this rule is true in this context then by claiming your win on the website you show to everyone that you are in the beta.  Anyone can look at this forum including non members.

Therefore claiming your win means that you break the NDA and forefit your access to the beta.

The net result is zero access to the beta from this site and the whole thing is a scam

    Hi!

We are currentl;y working with Firesky to get the fine details sorted out.

The contest very clearly stated: "Please note that winners will *not* gain immediate access to the beta test upon winning. The exact date winners will gain beta access is unknown at this time and will be determined by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment. "

    Please be patient.

Well you wouldn't be under an NDA until you got the details of said NDA now would you LOL

Patience. I haven't heard anything about a beta starting anytime soon. If you read their forums you should be able to determine whether or not it's on the horizon anytime soon. Considering the game hasn't been in development that long i would expect beta for at least a few months. Just be happy that when it starts you'll get to be there.
