Not breaking news, a lot of posts already... Acclaim is going to make TCoS Free to Play with a subscription option.... I knew from the start that Acclaim would be a PATHETIC choice. spellborn.acclaim.com , see for your self, the site doesn't even function right and looks absolutely un-professional.
News is here btw: http://www.tcos.com/sbforum/viewtopic.php?t=14695&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
I personally just lost interest. What about everyone else? What do you guys think?

Was just reading that myself, lost interest aswell... cant believe it.
Acclaim was THE WORST choice they could have possibly made... seriously...

I'm not sure what to think of this either. But at least have a little patience (yes, we've had a lot already, but a little more won't hurt). The press release is quite vague at some points and there might be more information on the topic coming up.
There is a very good possibility that the F2P-part is still only the lvl 1-10 areas. They haven't specified how large the F2P-part is yet.
If I was you I would follow this thread:
www.tcos.com/sbforum/viewtopic.php
And wait for some announcements on that forum in the following week.
Don't give up yet.
Gotta agree with ya on that one. I was lookin forward to this game, now not so sure. Making the game F2P is really gonna kill this game fast. Just this idea has prolly driven away alot of ppl lookin forward to this game. Do the Devs feel this game isn't worth paying for? Or perhaps no other publishing company felt this game wasn't worth investing in.
It also gonna be f2p with frogstar in asia?
Gods i hope this f2p scheme backfires badly. When it was just 1 zone ok that's fine, gives players a taster but with thisnew scheme ffs... grr
Now i gotta wait for aion, jumpgate, darkfall, stargate.

"Third, once again, repeat after me, there is no item mall. Premium services mean the same as we mentioned before - p2p part of the game. How much will be given for free still remains to be seen, it may be certain beginner zones, it may be level restricted, etc. As it is, beginning zones at the moment consist of 3 areas, in which people can get to somewhere around lvl 10-15ish, with ability to kiss the newbie zone bye bye at lvl 10. We haven't decided yet where we are going to cap it - if it will be 2 zones instead of 3, if it will be up to lvl 10 so people are locked out of traveling, etc. It probably will be somewhere around there +- few zones and levels. As I said: The amount of gameplay you get for free is probably very similar to what have been announced earlier = the free part is effectively no more than a trial.
I will still play it. As long they dont change the gameplay i dont care. Right now im dying to play a good MMO.....so i cant afford to not play TCoS.
From the looks of it Acclaim is marketing this game as a f2p game. That in itself is bad news, because:
1. It is not true and people who like f2p will feel betrayed.
2. It will keep people who do not like f2p games at a distance.
On top of that a large portion of the faithful fans will feel betrayed too for having to share the starter zones with who knows, goldsellers?

Not F2P game, but F2P starter zone... Buy the game, play around in the starting zone to lvl 10 or so.. wanna explore more, level up you pay a subscription fee ....end of story.
You know when you play too much MMO's when your partners pants have become a rare drop.
After being in the beta ( admitting you are in beta is not against the NDA ), all I'll say is you ain't missing much.
thats wrong they said the f2p part would be one part that u can play and level up only in that small area but for as long as u want so you can get used to the gameplay
but u are right acclaim was a horrible choice...
Missing out on what? I don't really understand your reply.
Oh and we'll have to see how the whole roll out in NA and the UK works out for Acclaim and SIL (Spellborn International Ltd).. if the game is a great succes I hope the service of Acclaim can profit from that and more or less change their views on MMO (being it for F2P) and have paying customers put money in the company for service, maintance of servers and the rest. If they also wanna keep having F2P games it's their own right but hopefully TCOS can be seen as a seperate business model then what they are used to work with.

Btw, reread the OP's link ot the TCoS forum thread. Its clearly stated on there that this game is NOT F2P. The only free zone is the beginner area that is suppose to let you feel how the combat will work in the game. As far as I understand it, you can play this area for an unlimited time before deciding to pay the subscription to the leave the beginning area.

Here is that link again.
MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit.
This isnt thrut
we gonna paid and Acclaim it one of the oldest compagnie you dont really know their past and they doing a lot of f2p, but they only publishing the game.
Ok why is it so bad????????? Starter zone is F2P ok so what anything over the starter zone is p2p .. whats so differant from this and a 14 day trial? Not to mention darkfall is doing something similar with a trial period before you buy aswell.
Point being why is it so bad that you can play from what (im guessing, but pretty sure im close) lvl 1 to lvl 5-ish
omg the sky is falling. what are we going to do now.
So I have it all cleared up... basically the starter zone will be F2P, which I still think is kinda a bummer... just have a trail like other games.
Also, The dude saying Acclaim has made a lot of games (Which are ALL F2P with item shops etc) just stated the reason I dislike Acclaim. Period.
Dunno other peoples views.
So what if Acclaim did some F2P games...
They are just publishing the game, they didn't make it and they aren't going to be the ones deciding how the game will play.
Do you think Acclaim "made" those F2P games? Im pretty sure they've just published them too. But honestly, I just hate F2P games and for that reason hate Acclaim. Call me prejudice I guess, but doesnt affect me really.
This just goes to show that almost NO ONE was interested in publishing TCoS. Is that because its a "bad" game? Who knows, im not saying it is... but there must be something that scared away the numerous publishers.
Just my opinion, think what you will.
I love the Idea of a free download and free newb play zone! You can really only learn so much of the game in a trail period escpecially if you live a busy life. I really hope darkfall also does this.
I'm just looking into this game as potential backup if Darkfall fails of which I'm a big fan.
When I saw free to play my heart sank a bit so I was happy to find that it only applied to one of the starter zones.
I think overall this is good move as long the devs put very big limits on what you can do in this starter zone with regards gold spam tells.
I would not have not bought this game straight away unless I had nothing to play but with this option I will download it so I can give it try, and who knows I might like it more than Darkfall in case which they will get a new subscriber.
Anyway some reports from the beta I have seen say it's quite good so I will definately will be keeping an eye on this game.
I have to agree with you on this one. I have been in beta for over a year now and a member of the forums since early 05.
You will like it or hate it, that`s all i am saying.
@Paradise2 :
Think you're right there- esp true for newbies like me. Its nice to try it before you commit yourself to paying for getting further into the game.
I'm not sure I understand why people think that a F2P starter zone will ruin the game? Many other games (including EQ2, Vanguard, etc.) have F2P starter areas ("islands") which you can play to your heart's content, so long as you don't leave the island...
That concept didn't ruin those games.
(Granted you may not care for EQ2 or Vanguard, but not because of the newbie island... probably because of some other gameplay mechanic, etc.)
Personally I think this move is brilliant. It allows gamers to try before they buy, thus avoiding the inevitable backlash that you see in other games when you plunk down $50 only to be sorely dissappointed (leading to the inevitable forum whinefests). With a F2P, try before you buy model, nobody can complain that they got ripped off.
The difference is that in those games you will never need to return to the starter areas at higher levels. Gold spammer with free accounts will be able to spam anyone in those areas. Unless drastic measures are taken to prevent that. The risk is real.

I think gold will be worth very little in this game .... there is very little to spend it on. There for it remains to be seen if it will be a problem.
To be perfectly fair, with the amount of fun that I have been having in war lately, probably would have never even paid attention to this one's release. Now, at least, I will give it a try. Free is good, yes, very very good.
