I played AoC, I pvp'd in AoC, and I leveled a toon in AoC. Nothing about that game is any good. Numbers dont lie. Servers are deserted, people are still quiting and Funcom will be out of business in less than a year.
Good luck with your War/AoC spin but you cant hide from the facts.
The thing that makes sandboxes last a bit longer is the social aspects in play. Take SWG for example reaching a full template was really just the beginning there. From there you had numerous things to do, from starting up a competitive crafting business to a lucrative career as a bounty hunter. Much the same in EVE as well. The limit is your own playstyle in those games, not a brickwall as you pointed out in other game types.
Star Wars Galaxies was by far the best mmo ever made (imo). Just because of the things you listed above. You hit the nail on the head with everything you said. Too bad we will never see another mmo like it. But as far as Warhammer and AoC goes, War is simply a way better game any way you wanna look at it. The two really are uncomparable and I think the population now and over time will prove me right.
I'd agree, WAR is built with far better groundwork than AOC started out with. I guess it really boils down to what your playstyle is, that's going to be the ultimate deciding factor in this debate. They really are incomparable games.
If you're into the horde aspects of PVP, much like many people were during the pre-cu days of SWG, of course you're going to find war superior. Even back then I was more of a solo PVPer who grouped up with the guild only when necessary. For instance, when the Imperial blob was out and about during prime time .
That's really the only aspect I completely enjoy about AOC, the solo PVP atmosphere. Everything else about the game is far to linear for my personal taste.
Thiers still life in the old girl yet. SWG isnt dead, the games getting new elements added, things it should have had in the beggining. Right now Devs are focusing on instances and rewards, hoth should make the pvp more interesting. Thiers been talk about cross server pvp instances also. They have brought back some crafting proffesions, next is more work on the non combat proffesions.
With the announced server merges next year, things are starting to look up. The games been through some ruff times, but I think in the next two years its going to rebound significantly. What it really needs is an expansion. Soe has been taking polls again, and It may look like they will serioulsy think about expansions again.
SWG is actually a good game, the main problem is its bad reputation, if people would give it a try again, they might be suprised you can still have fun in it. The same can be said about AOC, its gained a bad reputation with the players, you can even say that both companys have made the same mistakes, releasing to soon, not listening to players, poor damage control. In the end, I think both games can make a come back if their given a chance by both the players and the companys developing them.

Quiting? Is that why AoC Xfire numbers yesterday is 15% up from the friday the week before? Explain to us how a game gaining popularity can be out of business in less than a year?
Also only thing that matters is gaming hours, more gaming hours in hyboria means more people logged on at any time which make the servers more crowded = more fun. However since you mention it, also player numbers are up. Let's not turn this into another Xfire discussion please. The title of the thread is " Post Warhammer Online....Age of Conan is the best!!!" so why not discuss that instead.
I don't think anyone is disputing the massive failure that is AoC, hopefully WAR will learn from their mistakes and give us real PvP oriented MMO.
What? AoC has 400000 customers, if you call that a failure that is disputed bigtime. Also it seemslike AoC is gaining customers these days (look Xfire). So I would at least be a bit more balanced in my statements if I were you. Some people mighty think you are just flat out wrong.
I don't think anyone is disputing the massive failure that is AoC, hopefully WAR will learn from their mistakes and give us real PvP oriented MMO.
The one thing I learned from WAR is that you can't just have good PvP or PvE.
You need a community. I would take a small, tightnit community of active people that make things interesting rather than a whole bunch of people that don't talk at all. You wanna know why, in my eyes, AoC has been a success? Go to the Cimmeria server boards. They are actively talking out ways of improving the community. They have taverns open, a town that they battle over for supremacy, constant battles between guilds...They have enough tools at their disposal that they can have community run events. The people on that server genuinely care. I haven't even played AoC yet, but if that's the kind of community that I can expect when I DO try AoC...I think that I will stick with it. In WAR...I just don't feel this sense of community. It took me quite a long while to realize that what makes or breaks a game for me is not content, but a lack of community. That community has gone the extra step and created their own content. Role playing servers have got to be the best thing since sliced bread. You just won't find as dedicated players anywhere else.
RPing servers in WAR just don't feel like RPing servers. After coming from Moon Guard in WoW, I just couldn't get used to no one talking in the general chat channel. I need that. I think that's why I will never be able to go back to single player games. They just don't hold my attention anymore. I need to see people conversing and coordinating. In WAR you just jump into a senario and fight. You grind through PQs without so much as a "Hey...you guys get that area and we'll take the guys over here". I've even done sieges that no one really coordinated or talked about.
WAR is a great game, don't get me wrong. The lack of player made content (RP events, waring guilds, etc.) is what turned me off from the game. So you can say what you want, but as long as there are people like those on the server of Cimmeria...it will never fail.
Kudos to the server Cimmeria for unknowingly convincing me to try this game once my comp gets upgraded

# of hrs played does not = # of current subscribers. You claim the game is becoming more popular, show me a rise in player numbers.

...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.
so many people are the war thread are complaing about how much the game blows (which I tend to agree with) so they will find other mmo's to play. WIll it be AOC, maybe but if not there are many other great mmo's out there.
I am loving AOC, and I see so many new people joining everyday.

An MMORPG with less 200k subscribers is not a failure. That's plenty of people to play with. Server merge is just needed.
Well AoC are gaining players after WAR took a nosedive. Seems like WAR need a merge before AoC. This is again just based on forum chatter, but many WAR servers are just simply deserted due to lack of Order players.
Funcom from the outset should have realized that to compete in an MMO market where a game like WOW is dominating and will continue to dominate, they need a better quality product than what WOW was when it released. I'm told LOTRO was a pretty fun and polished game but still couldn't compete with WOW. Someone should make a list to see how many MMOs have failed where WOW has succeeded.
Spoils of War - The quickest way of ending a war is to lose it.
I think you do not understand what I am trying to say. I say, who cares about subnumbers. What only count for me is how much fun the game is, how many players that are in AoC at all times. To gauge that you would have to look at gaming hours. Gaming hours represent the product of no. of characters times their gaming time, which again is the best measure we have of character density in hyboria. Number of players is only important if you want FC to make more money.
So more gaming hours equals higher character density pr time unit in hyboria, which again equals more fun. Send me a mail if you still do not understand my point.

Pretty much all of SOE's titles (except EQ1) but SWG is SOE's fault, Tabula Rasa, DDO, Hellgate: London... well nearly all the titles released after November 2004 (when WoW went live). I think the problem is the companies that releases these games has their expectations too high.
I don't think anyone is disputing the massive failure that is AoC, hopefully WAR will learn from their mistakes and give us real PvP oriented MMO.

You have to be a troll to continue posting that 400k figure as anyone with the iq to tie their own shoelaces knows is not the case today.
Xfire doesn't show AoC is gaining customers, sure friday was a little higher than expected but saturday was the lowest weekend day the game has ever had.
It's also highly contridictory to post the 400k number then quote xfire especially as if you belive xfire shows how the game is performing relative to itself then it single handedly shows that there is no way the 400k number is true.

Keep chanting reverand. I play the game (as many others) and I/we know that there has been a very noticeable activity increase over the last 3 weeks. I am not sure why I have to take insults from you simply because I am stating this. 14th of Aug (read up in AoC forums if you still did not pin down the details on this), AoC had +400000 customers and considering latest trend I would think we are not much different from that now. In fact if I should make an estimate of subscribers based on activity on my server (which is much much higher now than 14th of Aug), I would end up with a number higher than 400000. So my statements are quite fair I think and you should perhaps ask yourself why this is bothering you till the point that you start throw about insults and troll accusations.
Saying you must be a troll is the oposite of an insult, assuming you are a troll is giving you infinatly more credit than assuming you truely belive that AoC has over 400k players. If I assume you arn't a troll then I'm insulting you.

Everyone knows that AoC's numbers have been dropping constantly.. and also past the 14th August.
However, it does seem like the subs may now be on the up (slightly).. but not from 400k, but rather a lower figure.
Is this guy seriously saying AoC didnt suffer a hit from the release of WAR?

Yeah, ya know, Warhammer Online is a terrible game, I think Age of Conan, dang, it was actually a really really good game and I have no idea why I gave it up but now it's good late the subs are too low and this game is going to be nothing until it comes out on the Xbox360 in which I hope because I want to get back into this game, I want to see new content, I want to see an update I want this game to come back so that i can play it again.

That's insane, but I really hope that WoW dies soon, but it's going to go up long before it goes back down, I don't think it's ever going to go down but we will have to find out what is going to happen
But WoW, I dunno, it's ok, I guess but I know that Age of conan and Aion online are really revolutionary
