Fippy Darkpaw EQ1, he was mean I say! He even announced his presence!
Damn gnolls. hehehe
Tell ya what though...I had a slayer title right quick, because I grew to hate them SOOO much I just made every damn one of them KOS. LOL
But in all seriousness, probably the toughest boss fight for me, up to the present, was doing Solarian (WoW) at The Eye, for the first time not having ANY clue of the strategy or what was coming up next. Holy cat sh**, Batman, I hated that woman. Now...she's a walk in the park. But she sure wasn't THEN.
Hah! I could'nt believe no-one else said it before me!
He was soo hard back in the day, my group wiped so many times, we were all geared up, brought pots and he still beat us.... we were even using vent!!
lol but no seriously It's kinda related, not an mmo but a boss, there was a starwars game on the snes years back and you played Han Solo a few levels in, the flying machine boss with all the guns on it killed me so many times, and poor Han just had a shittylittle blaster, oh the good old days!!!!
I would say Trakanon right after Kunark was released in EQ. The encounter itself wasn't that difficult, but getting to him before every other guild on the server was. This race through OS was brutal, but a lot of fun.
Thats one thing i do miss...
Having the raid leader send out the scouts to find us a target. Once one is found and the raid is call; you got 70+ ppl showing up at the zone-in in about 4 mins or less. If not odds are you lost the target to another raiding guild. Todays MMO's with instance... there is no sense of urgency to get to the target, and ppl just take their time.
But i would say TRC from EQ1...Sleeper... and a PITA zone Uqua ...god i hated that zone wide debuff (almost as bad as that one ZW debuff that turned everyone Halflings when fighting BB).
(Kinda cheesy) Horntail from maplestory; which took my clan 4 hours to kill. I pissed my pants, literally, because I could not get up to go to the bathroom
Ewok. I saw one of those wipe out over 40 players in less than 2 minutes. I survived, but only because I was hiding in a cantina with a few other lucky souls.
No one saw it comming, for some of us it was our first visit to Endor, and up till that moment, Ewoks were regarded as cute fuzzy teddybears by the Beta players.
I didn't fight the hardest bosses in EQ, but one guy that killed me a lot was the king who dropped the Fungi tunic. He was at the bottom of Sebellis and I had trouble soloing him at max level. He had a couple of gaurds that were tuff to feign death pull solo.
I don't think the Sleeper was ever meant to be beat. I never even was able to get into the locked dungeon which he resided in.
Come on, Mutated Tree was easy. Go on level 40+ you'll see that even mobs give you a hard time solo. I suggest you doing that one in a party. I guess you can...
MU - Not too much hard bosses except Kundun and Balgass. Others can be beaten to a pulp by agi BKs. Cabal - Pretty much hogged them all using my Archer. Had a hard time in Pontus though. If the mobs are all over you, you'll pretty much die if you don't have a party. So in the end, I still love offline RPG bosses. Once you kill them, then the game ends. You don't have to expect a random drop that shows up once in a while. MMO's are fun though once you look pimped up.
Just shows I'm a bit new to the game. Maybe when I get to higher levels my answer will change. I'm slowly just getting the hang of the game and got a bit confused on how to heal my characters when fighting him.
There's a boss in FFXI that took 18 HOURS to beat?! Harsh....
Love your answer AbIeL! Nothing can beat a over-hormonal girlfriend!
While I left EQ1 in disgust via GOD (Gates of Discord) Planes of Power holds a special place for me
Pick of any of the four Elemental Boss encountered (Rathe Council, Xeogany, Sol Ro, Povar) needed for Plane of Time access. You actually had to have skill AND knowledge of your class to beat these encounters my friends.
What sticks out most to me though is the pre-elemental boss RZTW (Rallos Zek The Warlord) encounter. That oldie but goodie required splitting you're raid force in half. You had to trust your captains to lead effectively. Nuff said

It didn't take 18 hours to beat the boss. The group had to give up after 18 hours becaus many of them got sick from the hours of concentration. They have written a journal about their fight:
I like the idear of a few bosses that will take an elite guild 3-4 hours of fighting, but this boss is just stupid. The group figured they could have killed him if they had an hour more, and expect lesser groups to use more then 24 hours.
Since I've just started playing MMORPGs (currently Atlantica Online), and still near the beginning of the game, I have to say none at the moment. I'm doing good (I think) so far in the game.
Maybe if I reach a higher level, that's when I'll encounter the big, bad bosses!
"Pookie" the White Rabbit from AC 1 before everyone started hitting max level with their characters
If you even just tried to assess his Stats and Level when walking by his cave he would smite you to death
I remember that guy! He definitely 1 shot me. I never fought him but what about the giant Demon guy from AC1 that wandered from town to town for a month slaughtering everyone in his path?

Wow... I was only able to browse their journal but from what I read, they prepared for weeks before the actual fight. Fighting this boss really does seem stupid. I mean, what's the point of creating a boss that would take almost an entire day to finish?! I have to hand it to those FFXI guys - that was truly hardcore!

Ya, my vote is Sleeper from EQ.

Fear is the mind-killer
They certainly gave Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny a workout.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

When we get back from where we are going, we will return to where we were. I know people there!

Take time to smell the flowers!
The Sleeper from EQ, took the whole server to fight her and only happened once per server, ever.
Vanguard, there's this boss you got to kill to get your griffon mount. Many guilds have tried yet he was never defeated.
Come to find out, he was bugged. He would go down to 1 health, but never reach zero and die.
I like playing Vanguard, but that boss is a poster child for VG.
I remember that guy! He definitely 1 shot me. I never fought him but what about the giant Demon guy from AC1 that wandered from town to town for a month slaughtering everyone in his path?
