    I have played it.

I thought it was really fun, although it was only single-player when I tried it. I really enjoyed the combat, although the mounted combat was very tricky.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

the game is great, however its not an MMO at all. Its a SPRPG.

M&B is a single player RPG only; no online or multiplayer component.  The graphics are not the best, but are good enough for me.  The really is no story line like a traditional RPG so you are open to do whatever, whenever.  The best part of the game is the unique and advanced fighting system which also includes mounted combat.  Additionally, the character creation and advancement freedom is nice.  I recommend this as a fun medieval combat simulator and open world game.

The developers have provided mod tools and support custome mods.  So you can download someone else's mod for the game and enjoy new themes like Star Wars, American Revolution, etc.

I hope this opinion helps you.

I play it and love it.   It's not an MMORPG yet(praying they make it into one).  Game just rocks...plan and simple.   It's like playing Planetside but in a medieval setting.   Hope it goes MMO soon!   BTW I haven't touched an MMORPg since I started playing it.   None can touch the game play of M&B.

Had not heard of it before this thread, but very interested in it.  Is it free to download and play or once downloaded must you pay to activate it?  Saw the download and the buy options there so curious about it.  I generally do not buy single player games, but might if they are considering changing the sp to an mmo.

Looks like when you DL you can play for free to level 7....get a feel for the game.... then buy a key to unlock the full game if you like it.

The game has a nice tutorial.

I play it, it's pretty fun.  I just wish it was multiplayer.  So many times I've wanted to charge a horde of looters or deserters and do it with a friend or 2 but sadly no can do.

I play it periodically.  I spend about 2 hours on it killing and looting and attacking people that severely outnumber me and find a way to win.  Every now and then I stop for a few days just so that it doesn't become too repetitive for me.  I think it would be an interesting if it went multiplayer or even MMO.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Why would this ever go MMORPG?  There are barely any connections between this and the MMO genre.

Good game btw.  Great game with mods.

Ive been playing this game for years since way back when I bought it for a few dollars to support it. Its one of the best indie developed games out, made by a team of only 2 people originally, and has an excellent modding community.

Yep been playing it for some time and it's a great game - lots of user made content and maps give the game a lot of replay value as well.

    It's not multiplayer though.

It's an excellent combat simulator but not much of a RPG or even a game, IMHO. But the mounted combat is awesome and it kept me occupied day and night for 2 weeks or so. As other have pointed out its a 100% single player game.

It is perfect for a sandbox MMORPG.  Think about it.  The game plays sorta like Ages of Empire, and Total War and Planetside.   Now take those games I mentioned and tweak M&B to have more of a little of each but make it MMORPG and tada - killer MMORPG with great game play.  OMG a game like that would put all other current MMORPG's to shame.   Most of the pieces are all ready in place.   A few tweaks and additions here and there and this game would be killer.  There is all ready a crafting mod you can add.   Add resource gathering and the ability to creating guilds and such.  Throw in PS game play with a few twist, maybe some more randomly generated quest and perhaps even some fantasy aspects to it and I am telling you this game would seriously be in contention for the most played MMORPG ever.

The combat cannot be beat.   I thought AoC's combat was awesome...then I played M&B and I haven't looked back.   M&B's combat is awesome, especially the mounted combat and such.   It rocks!

agreed - there's nothing quite like riding through a bunch of enemies slashing left and right and seeing them trying to block with their shields or fall dead or wounded while my infantry charge in behind me

(and then, as often seems to happen in my case,  tumbling to the ground as my trusty steed 'Binky' succumbs to her wounds and finding myself surrounded by angry men with axes   oh well)

Currently testing the 'Lombard Leagues' mod

Yea, I saw the boxed version of this game at Best Buy for $29.99, was tempted to buy it.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the Best Buy version and the version people have been playing? Are there mod tools included in the game?

Its an okay game. Im using it as a sort of practice game for Darkfall, as the combat is very similar to Darkfalls.

  • olddaddyolddaddy Member Posts: 3,356

Well, the boxed version comes with a map of the world, which is useful to figure out where you are going.

Overall, I like the game. It is definately a sandbox game, non-linear. You chose what you wish to do. So far I am enjoying it. No combat keys to push, might make a nice MMORPG.

Quite the sleeper, with no hype and advertising budget.

This is still my game of choice right now.  I quit playing MMORPG's after someone on thee boards pointed it out to me.   I love the game.   I play it when I get some free time.  My character is now level 37 and just plan rocks when using a bow from horseback.  Love the combat.   Best medieval combat I have yet to find in any game anywhere.   It's combat for sure beats the bejeezes out of any MMORPG and most SRPG I have played to date.

    MOUNT & BLADE FTW!!!!!!

  • olddaddyolddaddy Member Posts: 3,356

I agree, I like the combat too. I am practicing attacking with a sword from horseback, I'm pretty good against foot troops, but mounted troops.....

Mounted archers are really a pain, I have to keep after them and hope they make a mistake. Today I helped some villagers retake their village from some bandits. I was down to one last bandit horse archer left, chased the little bugger around, couldn't catch him, though he couldn't hit me with an arrow. Finally I cornered him against a steep slope, slowing him down as he tried to turn, and nailed him with my sword.

Combat is definately player skill based, and can be quite the challenge. Not only in the fighting, but in maneuvering your opponent into treacherous terrain.

I am actually getting quite bored with it now. It's the same quest over and over. Go get xxx amount of money from xxx, we need xxx heads of cattle, we need this, we need that, train our peasants, retake our town. I don't actually see a storyline at all.

  • CactusmanXCactusmanX Member Posts: 2,218

I thought the combat was horrendous, like if your character just woke up from a year long comma and endevoured to fight legions of theives, with severe muscle stiffness and reflexes of a cow.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

  • olddaddyolddaddy Member Posts: 3,356

Well, I swore fealty to a King, hold a small village as a fief, have fought plenty of actions, and have to build things in my village. Things like a manor house, and civic improvements to increase my economy.

I also have a small army, which has to be trained to advance in skill. Loot is plentiful on the battlefields.

I am having a great time with this game.

It's better when you do not swear to a king and you claim a castle for yourself and build your own kingdom. Everyone then tries to ass rape you.
