Maplestory reviews time~ Its... good?

Maplestory Divides me, i love community in a MMO, know many good chatrooms lately? MMO's provide the best ones. WoW in particualr is great for chatting (it costs though) and maplestory is greatly fun when playing with a firend, if to do nothing bar chat. I had a 120 bowmaster, bandit, 56 page, 31 fighter and alot of toonz I never lvl'd. Maplestory i easily poured a thousand+ hours into.

Maplysotry is great simply because it is. Classes are balanced, my bowmanz was as good as my theify bandit (luk, not str, luk is way better) and despite what people say warriors were awesome as long as you put dex in them. AND against beleif using a sheild with a page was extremely effective. i could kill 20% slower and take only 1-100 damage form mobs way+ my lvl. Cheap as chips with a 1h mace and the scrolls were so easy to get.

Characters looked good (if you like it) and the ammount of sprites and variety in almost everything is topped of with great artwork and design.

all in all Maplestory sounds great however two things kill MS.

Exp and cash shop. oh my god waht the hell? I played around with a sauce (mmm) server and made 50x 100x 500x and from my minor time playing with that, if MS was 50-75X more exp it would be ok to play. lvling at lvl 170 with 50x was hard as hell.

and the cash shop, it is seriously greedy. its cost is...ok but you have to spend heaps and then the 2x exp cards expire so quick and everything is gone after 90 days... well not worth it. Nexon realy screws you over.

Creating a character demands you spend real money. here is an example, you can have two  ugly hair stryles, one good one and pick form 3 average faces to look at. no one can stand the crap look so you spend $30+ off the bat to look good.

all in all Maplestory self Pwns. Graphics you can enjoy with fun gameplay and a sense of belonging in the fun little community. All killed by the disgraceful exp rates and petty cash shop.

alot of factors are realy picky that i am not going too far into however if you are tihnking of playing it be prepared for all I have said or play Latale if you realy want this style ish.

and before I get any complaints dungeon type areas were realy not that fun, killing bosses was fun but zakum runs were nowhere near as fun as it looks and pianus... ok, kinda liked him...

anyways, all in all i give it a 6.5/10

any oppinions, corrections and criticisums help us grow so feel free to say anything.

played WoW, GW, RO, MS, Thang, RS, RAKION, PWI, Atlantica Online, FlyFF, RF (I'll miss RF) and a fiew more.

I currently have a lvl 20 luk bandit.

I have to say, leveling is really a hell of pain in the ass, comparing to other mmo's (namley wow from my 3 years of 'gameplayed')

I'd like mention that if you are not looking for pvp content and enjoy 2D cartoons, then MS is right for you. However, do not expect your character to glimmer unless you subdue to Nexon.com for cash shopping!

I never could get past lvl 30, I think it just dramatically dropped after the party quests I realised it's a big chat room with little kids and you show nothing for levelling up except doing big numbers on snails and mushrooms, and if your lucky an armoured pig, I heard the population was around 25 million and that  amazes me

Yeah, to sum it up, maplestory is meant for Anime/Chibi style

players, who only cares to play and have fun. Me, i found

MS pretty fun to play. And BTW, good Explanation~

I really dislike 2d mmo's, they are never(maybe) good. And what's  the point in making mushrooms as mobs or even snails etc.

try other desent games, maybe you can find some better one's for a real fun.

I used to be a MS Freak wayyyyy back in Beta. And I played up until a month went by when Nexon was in charge. Oh, what a terrible corporation...

Okay, first of all, MS does NOT contain one of the best communities in MMO's. You seriously need to play at least 2 other random ones from the List before you say that again. The "community" is full of immature (not using under-aged, even 16-year olds do this) selfish douchebags. Basically 40% will tell you to screw off when you ask for help, BUT, if you're splurging Cash on your clothes and whatnot, basically everyone's your friend then. The hunting grounds, each and every one of them, there is usually one douche to rule the map. Seriously, like, the level 59 Sin attempting to get to 70 in one night by staying in the same map.

SECOND of all, the classes are SO NOT BALANCED. Thieves; Assassins basically rule the flock from level 15-4X or 10-90 or even higher, depending on their funds. I could get a sin from 1-40 in a day. Every other class, not so easy. Assassins were also BUILT to kill-steal. /// Bandits are basically left behind in the early levels. But around 50 they start picking up the pace. And in the 3rd and 4th job, they're near the top. Magicians; How do I start? Well, they aren't terrible in the beginning, even though they have no real offense from levels 1-7. Once they max Magic Claw they are second place to Assassins in the 20-30 levels /// Wizards don't have it too easy. They aren't big helpers in a Ludi PQ so they are less likely to be picked unless their level is above 45. Once their main offensive skill is maxed, they are second place in the areas where they are elementally advantaged, fourth place by all aspects and such. Clerics only get it easy during and a little after the Ludi PQ. Archers; Well, they are basically second-class Assassins until they breach third job. Their only advantage in the beginning is that they start out with Critical Attack. Hunters and Crossbowmen aren't too great. They can deal great damage, but still don't come out as number one. Warriors; Warriors have hell on earth happen to them in the beginning. They are the slowest of levelers, in my gameplay, anyway. Their only advantage is their high health and Slash Blast, which still doesn't edge them a rank higher. Pages, they're like Warriors but with a shorter name. There is nothing too special here, besides Power Guard. Fighters are Pages that deal greater damage and have Power Guard as well. Spearmen are probably the better out of the three, but not necessarily since Dragon Blood was cancelled out by those potions. All of the third job warriors are insane. Case closed.

    Rankings (Without Pirates)  :

    First Job

    1) Thieves

    2) Magicians

    3) Archers

    4) Warriors

    Second Job

    1) Assassin

    2) Hunter/Crossbow

    3) Warriors and Cleric

    4) Wizards

    5) Bandit

    Third Job

    1) Ranger/Sniper

    2) Chief Bandit

    3) Crusader

    4) Hermit

    5) White Knight

    6) Priest

    7) Dragon Knight

    8) Mages

And I cannot judge 4th job, I didn't stick around until it released.

TRUE, Nexon seriously focused on commercialism and their Cash Shop after everyone got comfortable. This basically ruined the economy (Gachapon is evil) and destroyed a fairly good society, inviting every parent-beggar to join.

TRUE, this game is a true grind-fest but it makes up for it by having many places to train, with Party Quests and Guild Quests and whatnot. And the Quests do stick out as a part of the game, offering special items and scrolls and whatnot. But with the growing population and the bigger jerks, I doubt people can find nice places to train nowadays.

    Overall when I loved MS : 7.75/10

    Overall now : 6/10

In my opinion I think it is a pretty good game if you play it for fun. If you dont play it for fun and your into just leveling you will not be fond of this game due to the tireless grinding it takes just to get from 51-52 lvl.

Nice review... Although if you wanna have lots of fun in MapleStory, you need to be atleast lvl40+ which can take some time to get to (especially for casual gamers)...
    Some nice features though
