The bussiness model hasnt been announced, but an Aion image appears already on NCsoft's playtime cards, so im willing to bet it's going to follow the same model as L2/Cox/TR, aka the other games that appear on those boxes.
i don't think this game will ever be free to play, my guess is that it will be $14,95 a month. like every other NCsoft p2p game :P and i also don't even want it to be f2p..
I wonder if NCsoft has considered the Guild Wars "Chapter" style business model. It was a new concept that they tested with Guild Wars, and that pretty much rose to the top of the MMORPG game list for a very long time.
I like that style because it allows people of all ages to play, not just those with credit or debit cards. Of course, there is always the problem of younger, immature gamers, but then again, the whole point of a MMO world is that you are not going to like everyone.
Buy the game, buy the expansions, but keep the gameplay free.
Are you kidding me?! This game is Lineage II and a half. That means that this game is going to have a monthly fee. And to be honest with you this game will be great, really looking forward to it and cannot wait for the next release of the game, this is one of the best games that I've ever played and am waiting for the release.
I think Guild War's main chat is the worst I have EVER seen. I'd take Chuck Norris references over it any day.
I still play the game from time to time mind you, but I don't pay attention to anyone unless I know them.... The game having no montly fee makes me even more anti social then normal. Seems the rules of conduct here are at an all time low.
yeah instead of paying $14 a month, you spend $200 on expansions
GW is a horrible system, i prefer diablo 2's system over GW. I wouldnt be interested in a MMO if it wasnt a sandbox world that was shared with everyone on my server. (no instances either)
complaining about $15 a month is freaking stupid, and thank god its almost unheard since years ago except from kids who cant get their fathers credit card. its the freaking price of a movie at a theater, and most people play them like a full time job, compare that to any other hobby that costs the same $ per hour

No joke, and if you have a family, going to the theatre or the restaurant once a month it's twice to four times that amount depending if you're a couple or have kids.. ><
Pretty much any hobby is more expensive then gaming, especially if it's a social hobby that requires you bringing drinks or food. I'm rather cheap and I'd rather spend money on my daughter so she can take skating, dance or a sport then grab a membership for myself.
For myself I'll play a game with my hubby for a few hours a day, we've discovered it's a great way to spend time together, so that's 30$ a month. ZOMG! It seems like a lot at first glance, but honestly if I go out to the movies, have drinks with the girls, take up a class of pottery or whatever, well basically sneeze and spend 30$... :

Just wanted to point out..... with Pay to Play games you still have to pay for the expansions lol , there by no means free.
Other than that 15$ a month is little to pay for an ever changing game that has potential to keep you entertained for a long while. UO lasted me 9 years before I eventualy game it up. FFXI 5 years.
Are you kidding me?! This game is Lineage II and a half. Dont you insult AION like that again you here Not that there is anything wrong with L2 That means that this game is going to have a monthly fee. And to be honest with you this game will be great, really looking forward to it and cannot wait for the next release of the game, this is one of the best games that I've ever played and am waiting for the release. Have you played this game? if so damn you to hell, i am so jealous.
I really don't mind paying for my gaming fix ($15 a month) or for expansions as long as the game rocks my addiction. I don't have any games im paying / playing right now because they don't fill the void for me ( they suk). But Im gonna be a full time camper on this game because you can tell ( gut feeling ) when a game is going to be EPIC before its ever released.

To be honest, paying for the actual games, but not paying monthly would be amazing. Same reason I love playing Guild Wars. I mean you don't see amazing First Person Shooters say...well you have to pay us monthly. You pay for the game and then play online multiplayer anytime you want on servers. So yes, I agree Aion shouldn't be a free game, but I would hate to pay monthly. Believe me I can afford it, but it is pointless. It is just normal entertainment and I am not a fanatic gamer, so I don't see the worth in paying monthly. The same reason I NEVER played World of Warcraft.

The technology is different. You have to ask yourself who runs the servers you play on.
When you play an online game like an FPS you aren't connecting to some big server farm that runs the game. The servers that you play on are all run by other individuals or companies. The company that developed the game has nothing to do with them.
When you connect to an MMO game you are connecting to a single centralized server farm that is run and maintained by the company that made the game. This is because it's one big persistent world and not lots of small temporary ones like in other online games. Running and maintaining these servers costs money which is why they charge a monthly fee where other online games don't.
Of course they do charge far more for the monthly fees than is required to cover their costs but the general reasoning behind the monthly fees is a legitimate one.
To be honest, paying for the actual games, but not paying monthly would be amazing. Would be amazing, not going to happen though. Same reason I love playing Guild Wars. I mean you don't see amazing First Person Shooters say...well you have to pay us monthly. That's because you play them then they end. Nobody plays a FPS for 2+ years. You pay for the game and then play online multiplayer anytime you want on servers. Servers that can only hold around 30 or so people. So yes, I agree Aion shouldn't be a free game, but I would hate to pay monthly. Believe me I can afford it, but it is pointless. Not pointless. Developers need money so they can keep the servers up, perform maintenance, create add ons, expansions, and so forth. It is just normal entertainment and I am not a fanatic gamer, so I don't see the worth in paying monthly. Do you have cable/satellite? Do you pay monthly/yearly for that? It's exactly the same as an MMO. The same reason I NEVER played World of Warcraft. I never played WoW for different reasons, but you really can't compare the service you get from a P2P like WoW or FFXI to a freebie game like GW. Like comparing DVD with BluRay.

I believe it's going to be p2p everywhere it's released.
Yeah, it is definatly going to be p2p everywhere (well 99.9% sure). Probably for the standard $14.99 / month.

I hope its not free to play. All f2p are lame and have heaps of kiddies playing the game and spamming shit... AION does not deserve to be f2p.
Of course it's a pay game.... just like every other high-end commercial MMORPG... ever.
its going to be $14.99 like every other game. which this game looks great so i dont think people are going to mind the fee what so ever.
pay to play $14.99
This game will never be free to play so it's pay to play xD
i don't think this game will ever be free to play, my guess is that it will be $14,95 a month. like every other NCsoft p2p game :P and i also don't even want it to be f2p..
I wish games would go back to costing 12.95 like they used to i can't afford that extra 2 dollars that's just rediculous!
$12.95? Crap man, I remember when $9.95 was expensive for MMO games!

In conclusion yay montly fee and yay for GMs.

yeah but ncsoft usually has free expansions that come more frequently that those bought ones do in other games.
L2 is on its 8th expansion now in 4 years, each was free, i would imagine the same from aion
