Mario + Zelda + MMOPRG

Would you like a MMO like mario or zelda games?

In MMO's we don't use jumping for much, how about add some moving platforms, boulders to dodge, mountains to climb, a button that you press will reveal hidden stairs that you need to quickly climb up before they disappear and you fall back down. Have bosses with attacks that you need to dodge instead of just standing there spamming your attacks. Slides like on the snow level of Mario 64 that we can race down

In dungeons all we do is kill the monsters in one room and then move to the next, how about add some puzzles like zelda. These puzzles could be added to instanced dungeons and your party must work together to complete them.

Some puzzles might be turning mirrors to reflect light on a frozen door.

Lighting torches before the fire goes out, you would need more than one person to light them in time.

Carry pots of water from one side of the room to the other and throw them in a bowl, the room has swinging traps that will break the pot if you get hit, when the bowl if full enough the door opens.

Sometimes you might need to split your party into two groups to open doors for each other to move forward.

The story could be like zelda where you need to collect the medallions in each dungeon to enter the final dungeon.

There would be 7 towns, one in the middle and 6 around it, each town has a dungeon, the final dungeon is near the middle town but you must collect all the medallions before you can enter.

In towns there is a main character that you must help before you can enter the dungeon. When you finish quests in the town you get exp for that town, sort of like the contribution in WAR, when you have enough you can enter the dungeon. You must have enough people in you party to enter the instanced dungeon, like Guild Wars missions.

Collecting cards would be cool, mayby even have a card game in the MMO. The cards would be monster drops and quest rewards.

Lots of charcter customization, so much armor and accessories that everyone can look unique. Mayby have no stats on the armor but have slots that you put upgrades into, so you can wear any armor you like.

Also lots of skills for combat, i like how many where in Guild Wars because you can be creative with your character. I have been playing WAR and you cant really make many builds, its' boring me.

Ok thats it, what do you think?

Super Mario RPG is an excellent example of the combining of RPG and platformer.

It seems like the 3D Zelda style of gameplay would fit well into the style of game that MMOs are known for.  You have various weapons and items you switch between, and a streamlined, simplified combat system when compared to that of most modern MMORPGs.  You face not only wave after wave of enemies, but also puzzles that require some wits and a bit of timing to get through.

The 2D, top-down Zelda game style could also make for a fun actiony MMORPG.  Taking on a dungeon with four of your friends in Four Swords was fun, but taking it on with six or eight could be a truely awe-inspiring experience.  Both of these would require the dungeons to be instanced, and possibly slightly randomized, so they're not solved and beaten well before the bulk of the players reach them.

But with a Mario MMORPG, you have something different.  You have in that a game in which player skill heavily overshadows levels.  The player which can time his or her hops and ground pounds and spins the best will do the best.  Sure, you can collect coins for personalized appearances or clothes, or level up to increase your overall health, and you can collect badges from beating various bosses, but all of the abilities you start out with are the abilities you keep throughout the game... with the possable exception of pick-up items like fire flowers and capes, which you keep until you get hit.

There is a reason, it wouldn't mix well. I can sum it up..

    "Ralph can't make the jump!"
"Well Jesus Christ its not that hard!"
"Ya this game is gay, ya fuck this!"

    Frustration...

Not only depending the morons you will be grouped with but from the mechanics of the game. MMOs are not to cause headaches but fun in an expansive world. Not saying it can't be done a good example of this is: Grand Chase. If you haven't played it, its a real-time casual real-time action game in a platform universe. Minus the puzzles you are looking for of course.

But puzzles in itself would be cool to have in AAA MMOs but god damn no platforming!

You may want to give asheron's Call a try.  There are jumping puzzles, invisible stairs you have to climb.. Bolders to dodge.. and the actual ability to dodge spells/arrows.  All of the elements you are asking for (incuding torche timed lighting) are all there.  The game is a lot of fun as well.

    Currently playing Real Life..
