I've only recently bothered to check gameplay videos of Aion and search a bit on the game's features. And although the graphics seem decent (a bit too anime for my tastes but I can live with that), when I looked at the combat animations....oh my God!

The sounds and animations of combat remind me of coin-op machines back in the early 90s.  They are frightfully similar, to be honest.

Is there going to be a Western version with tweaked art-style (always with regard to animations and sounds) or is this going to be the final gold version?

I was thinking of giving it a try but it would be impossible to find myself immersed with combat like this.

PS: This is not a troll post but a serious question

I like the combat - it is different, interesting, fun and fast paced. Removing it would just take away another selling point the game has.

As far as i know, they are working in the localization for western countries and talked about not just translation but some cultural localization too. Anyway i don't think it is going to include combat sounds and animations.

Just in case you have only checked the youtube videos, (that I'm sure you know you can't make a good judgments on them because low quality and so) you can try the videos here http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/208764 to get a more accurate impression.

this makes absolutely no sense; I said I fancied trying the game, but expressed serious concerns over something which, for me, is a turn-off.

Is it prohibited to express dislikes? And I thought the Darkfall forums had a bad name with fanbois...

you know, for someone who has never heard of this game, finding the right sources is not as self-evident as it may seem.

    Anyway, thanks for the link.

To say the combat animation is bad is just wrong or you where watching CB1 video's and not the newer one's. and yes the korean sounds are very bad, but like it was said above it will be localized for western market.....again this is all old news.

Animations and combat seem ok but the excessive use of special effects for everything you do pisses me off, beware epileptics

About "localization": the constant shouting of your avatar when he's using his skills can be annoying. A western tester said it's ok for Korea but it could be annoying for a western audience and reported it to the Aion community team. Don't know what they made of this remark, though. Maybe you could switch off your own shouting in the options.

The combat animations are great in this game the only mmorpg which got same fluid dynamic animations is wow, the rest are nothing but the worst, yet i'm sure some wow hater is gonna jump out and try convince people how "perfect eq2 or VG moves like", god, western mmorpgs have always been turds when it came to combat animations and dynamics compared to asian mmorpgs.

It's okay to be sceptical but don't say something that isn't right  =S

This mmorpg seems to be doing things right on every accord, also making grouping more attractive is great, been waiting for one of those which felt like it had a meaning being in groups again, outside of the dungeons, battle mini games, or Battlegrounds.

Aion looks great, moves great, and feels great.

After having watched the latest HR videos, I can attest that combat is indeed a major turn-off for me.

Anyway, I guess it's what they say to each, his own.

I don't know how anybody can be turned off by the combat in this game, it's so much more exciting and fast paced than other games.  If you take WoW for example, practically every skill as a warrior just recycles the same dull animation (either a spin-slash or a fast slash, possible with a little bit or animated blood).  In Aion, every skill has is unique and just plain look cool .  And the art style is half the reason i'm playign the game.  The environments and music are absolutely stunning.

Maybe it's because My first MMO was korean and i grew up on JRPGs, but I love everything about Aion.  To each his own I suppose

Indeed, some people like ugly awkward combat, and some like over the top flashy combat.

/shrug. :D  I'm actually curious to see what Bioware will do with Old Republic since they've expressed combat in most MMO's is neantherdal. But anyway.

I clicked on that link, and you said it will be a live feed? Hmm. Well it's working, but just doesn't seem to show anything other than in-game footage that you would see on youtube. Guess I'll really have to wait until nov. 11th lol

it looks painfully obvious that the game was made for the Pokemon generation... such a shame

Stayontarget... don't be attacking every person who comes with a skeptical opinion of Aion.  What hurts aion's rep more than any troll is a community that can not respond to another's questions or opinions in a respectful manner.

It's almost 2010, and I am just not wiling to tolerate clunky graphics while being told that "gameplay is more important than graphics". That excuse won't wash with me any more. I expect my games to have both good graphics and good gameplay.

I think it is quite obvious, after reading all of the comments on the recent open beta promo video, that animations are indeed a huge selling point on this game for many people. Yes, your characters makes non realistic movements fighting gravity over and over (they can fly, why wouldn't they be able to jump that high) but so do a lot of console games, successful ones for that matter.

Wether you like it or not, you can't say these animations are bad, cause they are pretty well done with natural movements even if the style is something you can't see irl, the whole thing looks like possible for demi-gods.

About the pokemon generation, I don't like pokemon, mind me I'm 23 years old (not too old, but on the average of MMORPG players) and pokemon got me with when I didn't like cartoons anymore, however, I love this game's graphics and style.

About the whole stayontarget thing, yeah, that came as offensive and not necessary, not everyone can be pleased by the same game, there are a lot of games for the OP to enjoy, but yes, the OP's comment also could have been seen as offensive due to certain remarks which attack those who like it.

I'm amazed cause many people who come saying that asian games are always this over-the-top anime graphics end up watching how every single videogame magazine rates games with the same style (devil may cry, dinasty warriors, final fantasy) with 99%'s, and yet they think their tastes are better. Leave the whole graphical debate to graphical experts, which won't judge style, but texture quality and models perfection.
