WOTLK Collectors Edition are they crazed!

Just breezed on Ebay and people already selling the Collector Editions for $150.00+

Just curious why would people buy this at such a high cost? Supplyand demand? OR simply WoW Superfans? All I saw on the CE was a free pet and a couple of books I think.

And I thought paying $39.99 for a expansion was pretty steep. It was a toss up to either get Fallout 3 or WoTLK, WoTLK was way cheaper.. lol

  • and you have to wonder "just what am I collecting anyway????".

I thought collecting was baseball cards, stamps, insects, books, or copies of playboy you discovered as a teenager.

For something that's going to be gone at some point and nobody will care about it....like having a collectors edition of floppy disk drives.  Alot of good that does you now.

And no, CE floppies didn't exist.

In my honest opinion, buying any collectors edition of a game or expansion  is a waste of money, is just a way of the publisher to take even more money from us. For me, is enought paying for a regular expansion, mmos should always be updated only with free content updates, they already earn enought with our subs. But well, this is how it it is, take it or leave it.

so ina short answer, yeah, they should be crazy.

Ha ha ha! I know the answer, they collect colector's editions of every game they play.

It may have been cheaper but ill tell you right now FO3 is BETTER than any mmo ive ever played.

If developers keep making games like FO3 ill never play another mmo again.

    What is your physical limit?

I collected the first two collectors editions for WoW. For me they are a tangible representation of some very good times I had regarding the game. Not only in game experiences, but out also. I met a lot of my guild mates in real life and it was fun as heck.  Also I liked the cute in game pets the CE offered. I wish I had something similar from my EQ days besides the dinky cds.

I pre-ordered mine from Gamestop.  It's not bad value for money really, you get a lot of stuff.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

Well just imo, sense the CE cost around 100$ and there was only "X" ammount of them being sold. With a game as huge as WoW. Someone could purchase 100 copies at 100$ and easily sell them at 150$ maybe even more on ebay and make a 5000$ profit. Well lets just say thats the reason I bought 25 copies

I would have to agree as to this being the reason most would collect the Collector's Editions.. I have a friend who got a Heroes tattoo, and I imagine at some point the show will end, yet it will be there to remind her of the good times she had.  You can't always understand the reasoning for everyone's mania, but oh well!  I wouldn't pay $150 for the CE of the game, even if I really wanted it and couldn't get it but eh, that's just me!

However, if you are a huge fan of the game, it is worth every penny.

The game itself (retails for $39), a behind the scenes DVD (~$20), a cd of music (~$12), a hardback book of art from the expansion (~$20), 2+ packs from the WOW TCG (not sure of the cost), a mousepad and an in-game pet.

The CE cost me $69. I think its money well spent.

I understand that, i was just referring to people that are selling them for $150+

As one person stated, they got 25 copies and will sell them on Ebay or whatever auction site they use and make a 200%+ profit (I dont see anything wrong with this, you are out to make a buck on a fan of WoW). I just can't see (from a persons point of view that just wants to play it) spending over $150 for an expansion. $69, not to bad if your a WoW fanatic, but $150+ .. thats just crazy  (imo)

Cant say if worth 150.00.. Thats in the eye of the beholder, but i can attest its very much worth the 70.00. The art book is stunning, the music cd is better than i expected, the mouse pad is very high quality, not cheap. And the unique cards to the trading game are cool, foil cards.

It was gift to me, but seeing the contents i have no problem recommending it IF the extra content is of interest.

And having a little  blue dragon follow you in the game is also cool.

I'm a collector, I collect Crystal mostly work pieces they go for 75.00 to 3000$, most collectors will pay more for something that they belive in time will gain in value, I'm fairly anti wow but I do acknowledge it is going to go down as part of gaming history and will one day perhaps be collectable.

I really want this, but keep seeing conflicting prices. Amazon is listing it as £49 in the product list, but when you click on the actual product, the information window shows £199 - either way it's out of stock. Ebay is no better, with prices of £80 upwards.

I'm not willing to pay more than £50 for it to be quite honest. When TBC CE was released, all I really wanted was the behind-the-scenes DVD. I managed to get it from Ebay for two quid or something equally ridiculous.

When I played WoW for the 1st time it was back in 2004 and managed to pick up the collectors edition as well. I forgot how much it went for back then, but as you can see now, some people selling WoW collectors edition for $350.00 to $1800.00 US dollars (un-opened of course). I should have bought 2 copies.

I picked up a 2 CE WoW WotLK yesterday for $69.99 @ Best Buy as well as a regular copy, I couldnt resist the urge and hope I can re-sell the CE before Christmas for more of a proft. I know that sounds bad, but if I can triple my dollars, then why not. The economy isnt so hot, but I know people will pay $$$ for something they dont have and want.
