i ve played lord of the rings for a month and i m interested in the mines of moria expansion . i ve worked out the game would have to have about 14 months of play at least for a lifetime subscription to be worth it . so in your opinion does this game have longevity that would go on beyond that ?

This question gets asked frequently. The lifetime subscription for $200 is the best deal in gaming hands down. I bought two of them and justified it as such.
I've wasted far more than $400.00 on far less entertainment. Weekends in Vegas, football games (hotel, gas, parking, tickets), useless computer hardware, a PS3, so yes its definitely worth it.
I got my money after the first month of Moria, regardless of how many months I have to play in order to "break even" with a monthly. I've been playing approximately 8 months now and still desire to log on every day, time permiting.
Moria will be going strong for at least several more years and perhaps much longer.
Consider the Hobbit movie coming in the near future, all the kiddies are going to want to be a hobbit.
The game is still going strong and if your a Lord of the Rings fanatic, I would say that $199 for a lifetime membership is well worth it. I burned out on this game and was looking for more of PvP centric game. I also payed for the lifetime when the game was released and still dont regret it.
Anyways..
Even though I am currently not playing this game yet, I believe its got the best PvE out there. Remind you I have'nt touched Everquest or Vanguard for quite some time for their PvE (going to have to try these guys sometime in the future again as well).
But the point of the matter, at least more people know about Lord of the Ring lore than the other 2 mmorpg's I mentioned, so its easier to following on whats going on in the game.
The game itself will have the longevity to be worth the lifetime subscription, it should be around for at least the next 6 or so years. The question is - will you get bored of the game and stop playing before 14 months? If you are unsure, I'd probably just go with the $9.99/month plan (if they still offer it). For me personally it has been worth it, I bought the lifetime sub when the game launched and I'm still playing today.
It cost me $299 last night for the "Complete Edition", i guess they changed it. I still think it's worth it though as it's teh equivalent of 20 months subs@$15. I'll easily get that much gametime over the next 5 years, as I keep going back to games. I must have paid around $600 on WoW subscription when I had an active account.
I bought the lifetime subscription when the game was first launched over a year go, and I agree with the above posters that it was a great investment (for me).
I think it comes down to 2 things:
1) Do you like what you've seen so far, and do you think you'll still be playing a year from now?
2) What is your play style? Do you play fast and hard for a few months and then get burned out, never to return to a game, or do you pace yourself a bit more slowly and enjoy the ride?
For me, I wasn't enirely sure of the answer to #1... it's pretty hard to say whether or not I'll still be playing any game more than a month or two after release. But I had a strong suspicion that I would, given my love of the lore and my overall happiness with the quality/visuals of the game. But #2 sealed the deal for me - I love the fact that I can leave the game for a week, or month, or two months, and always come back to it. If I get burned out, I can always come back to it, and not feel like I'm wasting my subscription during my off months, or that I need to un/re-subscribe constantly.
So... for me... it's been a worthwhile investment. But at the end of the day, you need to answer the above questions honestly for yourself, as nobody else can gauge your gaming style.
For me it was worth it and Iknow alot of people who regret they didnt get it when LotrO first launched. But on the other hand there is people who regret they got it
The nice thing is that you never have to worry about any monthly payment and it doenst matter if you dont play for a couple of weeks or months, you can come back at anytime. So for a casual player who play to have fun I think the Lifetime sub for LotrO is a great offer!
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
Look at this way: They don't offer lifetime subscriptions because they like you. They offer lifetime subscriptions to make money. Therefore it stands to reason they are counting on the fact that most player who purchase lifetime subscriptions either won't place for 14 months, or would not play for 14 months if they had to continue paying. In either of these two cases, they make more money off of the subscriber by selling them a lifetime subscription than they would have if they sold them a monthly subscription. The only group of player they lose money on is the group that would subscribe longer than 14 months using a monthly fee, but clearly they believe extra revenue from the first two groups more than makes up for loss to the third.
I'm not saying it's bad deal. I'm saying it's a win-win for the right kind of player, and that player may be you, or it may not be.
Now, I'm not telling you anything you don't know, I'm just laying it all out for you. Here's the thing though: Any number of people on this board will tell you that LOTRO has plenty to keep you entertained for 14 months. Any number of other people of other people on this board will tell you that LOTRO becomes boring and stupid within the first 30 days. Noone on this board can answer that LOTRO does or does not have 14 months worth of play FOR YOU. Only you can answer that. And you may be wrong.

If you never realy played the game i would say , play first 2 to 3 mounths and if you then still think you would be playing this game afther 14 mounths then i would go for a lifetime , but the longer you wait the less value even now the first exspansion has released the value of the lifetime sub has gone down, since the game has gone a little bid dated, far from the end trough.
But it also has other benifits wich is that you can log on whenver you want even in 4 years from now if you would not play it for half a year or so, or when you have other things to do ... you dont feel forced to play as whit other mmo's were you feel forced to play els it would be a waste of your monney.
Playing: World of Warcraft.
Played: Lord of the Rings Online, Starwars Galaxies.
Tried: Starwars the Old Republic, Everquest 2, Guild Wars, Vanguard, Age of Conan, Aion.
Absolutely worth it.
I agree with all the previous posters but another reason I did not see is that it affects my playstyle in the game.
In other MMO's I always seem to rush around and miss alot of content but here in LoTRo I can take it slow because tommorow is another day and costs me nothing to play.
I never feel the need to speed level, raid 7 days a week or any of the usual stuff I would do in a MMO. This is the first MMO I have played where I read the quests also due in part to this.
I have had a lifetime sub since release and I almost feel guilty playing now as I play for free and since Turbine provides more free content updates than any other IMO it feels like stealing.
Playing- Guild Wars 2, SWTOR

I think a lifetime subscription to LOTRO is a great deal for the casual gamer who likes to take their time with a game. Hardcore power-levellers need not apply.
I have 4 characters at Lvl 35 and have been playing for a year and a half. Personally, I want to see all starting areas, want to have all crafting skills covered, play a variety of classes, do as many quests as possible and just slowly enjoy the experience.
For me, LOTRO is my little treat at the end of a stressful day at work. With MoM coming out I'm looking forward to many many more months (probably years) of content to come. Therefore, the lifetime subscription, for me, was one of the best investments I've made in online gaming.
So if you're a casual gamer and like to take your time it's highly recommended.
I will also chime in and say its worth it. Ive been a lifer since beta and havnt looked back. There is a peace of mind that you will not have a reacurring charge every month and if take a month or 2 off and forget to cancel .
With past games like EQ and wow , always been times where Ive got caught up in pther things and never logged in my games and payed the CC monthly charge still. Theres never the worry of having to to make sure have room on the CC. Theres just to many pluses with the big minus that if you dont feel you like the game, then ya will be a waste. If look hard enough Im sure can find someone with a buddy key or something to try game before you plop down 200 bucks.
Big thing is you have to love lore. If a game has to have uber equipment, your a min/maxer, and need constant candy drops to keep you in the game, then perhaps this game isnt for you. Good luck
I believe those that bought the Lifetime subscriptions at launch are now playing for free for life. So yep, good investment if they are still playing. The great news is they are still offering people the opportunity to buy the lifetime subscription. I was worried because of how they handled AC2, but so far so good.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
For me it would not be worth it....I have only played one MMO more than a year (EQ1 for 5 years) and really nowadays there are just too many others out there to stick with just one game.......I subbed for 6 months in LoTRO and barely made it for 2 before I was totally bored...I havent logged in for 2 months and my sub doesnt end till December......To me LoTRO is an OK game but nothing special......It is not a game I could see myself playing in say 5 years.......
I believe this says it all.

I bought the lifetime at release and so far it was worth it for me. I burned out last spring and went back to EQII for a couple of months and played AoC for a couple of weeks and basicly just took some time off from the game. It was nice that all I had to do to "come back" was fire up the client.
I miss DAoC
I'm playing for free now, and have been for several months now since I bought the lifetime sub at launch. This game will easily be around for another five years, so buying a lifetime sub still makes sense if you plan on sticking around till the One Ring is destroyed.
The nice thing about playing LOTRO for free is that I have extra discretionary money that I can now spend on other MMOs if I want to take a break, or have a nostalgic urge to fire up an old favorite for the weekend.

1. you must be deranged if you think moria has YEARS (or longer?!) of content in it. the game itself only had 1 month of content in it for a casual gamer.
2. the lifetime sub is like marrying a fat old ugly chick who cant cook and has bad breath. sure it seems like its cheap and easy, but will you really want to keep tapping it?
3. there are people who have paid numbers other than 200$ for the lifetime sub.
4. if no kiddies are really playing the game now (and i see that as a plus) why would they want to play it for the sake of being a hobbit? not like they will be giving hobbits skate boards to ride around on.
For me i didnt pay the 199$ to play so far ive payed for 2 3 month subscriptions with a 3 month break in between so im at 60$ and planning to go back for another 3 months in the next few days. (soo excited about moria) i probally won't pick up another subscription untill summer after my newest sub ends in march. But when i go back and play everytime the games always better then ever. I just cant play a game for more then 3 or 4 months.
so its all on how much you will play it

It's actually a very good deal if the gameplay speaks to you and you are enjoying it.

If she's skilled in Online Tetris and play in my team, answer is YES.
This "game" is a blinder and pretender title.
You need to be very careful with a lifetime subscription if you only played for 30 days yet.
The boredom hit me after app. 2-3 months and i have not had the desire to go back ever since.
It is a very linear and predictable game with extremely limited custamisation possibilities. The learning curve is flat and never increases. The only intresting aspect this game has, is wether a group of scientists could teach it to a monkey or house cat and who of the both would level to 50 faster.
My advise is: go for monthly fee for 3 months and play some other MMO trials that might intrest you. So you get a comparison of what you find fascinating about MMOing in general (which mostly every MMO offers) and what fascinates you about LOTRO and makes you think you will play it for over a year.

you read minds now?
i dont really even think the game will hold up for years given turbines record. if you play 10 min a day there might be years of content there. type /played after you cap though...it just isnt that immense of a game.

It was very clear given the context of the discussion what he was saying.
No mind reading required.
And yes I do believe the game will be around for several years. There is a very devoted playerbase which could very easily be seen even when ther were no levels to be gotten.
Will the game be around for 10 years? who knows. But given where the game will take the players, there will be plenty of players lining up to stand at the black gates when they get there.

Well, my mother apparently signed me up for a lifetime subscription to the "real world" 35 years ago. And I gotta say, the lifetime to LotRO sounds like a much better deal.
