Resubing to Vanguard after WAR, WoW and mmo chunk....

Yes, I've been an elder beta tester for WAR, i've played it for almost two years now, and sorely could say it bears the RPG words on the classification. WoW is a good game, but its not of my taste, though many of my friends are perfectly happy with it. I've played since UO launched and I'm a Pre-NGE SWG Vet.... And well, I can assert that by the time, the best MMORPG in the market is Vanguard. Stunning graphics,  seamless world, classes, races, customization etc it makes altogether the BEST.

I'm resubing while the people play counter-strikeWAR and is fashionable...

It is a question of fangs.

i agree the rpg has been taken out of mmorpgs, you might aswell take out one of the m's also and call the genre mog (multiplayer online game).

oooh, that's good. Is it already taken or can I claim TM on that?

I really have been considering resubbing for this game too i enjoyed the trail island and it feels like the only well developed Mmorpg left thats not 8 years old despite its flaws at release. It seems like it has a strong community of old mmorpg fans that are trying to relive the glory days before the plague  (WoW). Not saying i didnt have fun for a year with the game but it seems like any game that started development after wow has miserably failed trying to be an action fps with swords -.-.

I hear you guys loud and clear and can totally relate.

I am also interested in checking out Vanguard again. I'm an old time gamer also...and I am fed up with what is out there right now. I am waiting for some new titles to come out, really. In the last 2 years I've played a lot of games. As far as just the fantasy genre: Warhammer (got very boring and is now fairly dead), AoC (AHHH!), LoTRO (good, but no complexity and boring combat/limited customization), DDO (was fun but after a year I can't play it anymore), EQ2 (liked it OK but it seemed to be too much like other games Ive played. It was just missing something).

Then I did Vanguard a few months after launch. I would have "you have died" messages popping up while I was sitting in a bar and all kinds of messed up bugs with inventory vanishing, etc.

I went back to Tabula Rasa and that game really got quite good! I was shocked because it sucked at launch. As I am sure a lot of you heard, it is being shut down. I prefer sci-fi, but I am thinking of giving Vanguard another chance. A lot of people have said it has been polished up a bit.

Can you recommend a server or offer me any tips/motivations to play?

I just want to play an MMO, get into it, and have fun. For some reason, I haven't been able to do that for about a year, aside from TR. I don't mind a small population as long as they are active. I just hate seeing tumbleweeds and feeling like I am playing a single player game.

    seradon has the best population.

But the game is designed pretty spread out.  Iod helps that some but it is still a large world.  It is easy to get somewhere where there are very few people around.

But at this point the game is pretty well free of any large bugs and works well.  It has some great dungeons and is a very broad game with lots to do besides just adventuring.  That is part of what makes the game unique.

I would suggest you Halgar if u are Euro. If not, Xeth or Seradon (maybe more pop than the rest, or at least what people say ).

Sadly, Sartok (PvP server) got too low population..

Hunter Nullail Destruction - 85 Ranger. Bristlebane (Solusek Ro) - EQ
    Knight-Captain Nullail - 60 Hunter. C'Thun - Pre TBC - WoW
    Nullail - 80 BE Hunter.Kor'Gall - WoW
Hunter Nullail - 55 Ranger. Telon - VG
    Nullail Destruction - Archer/Bard - Cerberus. FFXIV

Don't be afraid of PvP ...come one come all to Sartok server the most realistic server in the game ;)...anyways I resubbed after a 7 month break from it and it really has changed for the better, I am definately enjoying it. Vanguard has much more depth and sandbox gameplay than any of the current cattle herding games out there right now.

I am coming from the same background as the OP, I am considering coming back to VG. Any news on future updates or content? Also how is the PVP server now? Thx

They ($OE) seem to be just quietly releasing very regular patches, fixes and game updates. No fan fair, just getting on with it.

/agree to new class MOG; at least this name would not be taking people as dumb selling to them nothing that we could refer as near to an RPG online.

Yes, i will enter Halgar! Hope to make good friends there!

Just installed Vanguard for the first time, looking forward to playing,

    (Q) does it really take 11 hrs or more to download the patch/update, how big is it?

I installed form the box disc and yes I'm coming over from WAR as well ;)

I guess that depends on your connection speed.

I have a 10Mb Virgin cable connection and it took a couple of hours to download the whole game.

I think it starts off saying it's going to take forever and then quickly adjusts it's estimate as it gets a steady download speed.

It's great to hear all these vets ( and new players) giving vanguard another try.  I find it interesting since we all seem to be rejoining vanguard around the same time ( I resubbed yesterday morning).  Perhaps War has just bored us all at the same rate? ;)

To the person asking if it will take a while:

Vanguard is huge, from what i remember it is somethign like 9 gigs ( maybe more).

    Anyway, Welcome back all!

To those on dial up or a slow broadband connection. Look away now.

    19.2Gb on my HD.

OK, not all of that was downloaded, but...

    ...

I don't know about people coming from WAR to vanguard?

    Isn't WAR 95% PvP?

    Vanguard is 95% PvE.

Not exactly the same type of game. Although it does have PvP ... or so I'm told.

  • I'm downloading this game as we speak.  Gonna give it a shot.  Heard a lot of good things about it over the past few months.

Facris, I think you are onto something. I moved my guild to a new server on War but it has about 30 percent more Destruction, we just constantly get rolled by double the numbers and they seem to have even more (40 percent +) higher levels (available stats support this). Anyway, that isn't even the issue. The game is quite shallow, I feel. It has run its course for me.

I am going to give Vanguard another shot. I can't remember my character's name on there, but I will post here when I get it downloaded. I am looking for people to group with , especially refugees returning to check out the game. There are things I like about EQ2 but I like the depth Vanguard has. We'll see how it goes. It can't be worse than what is out there right now!

Its about as easy as wow, all mmos are now. The difference is the community is x234324 more fun and helpful, crafting is top notch, world is HHUUGGEEE and immersive, teamplay is important and exciting. Its just a solid game now.

Welcome (back) to the last MMO with some depth and where you dont get ten levels in your lunch break.

    Enjoy your stay.
