Today was the best oRVR I have seen since early DAoC days!

Good job Mythic, the live event "kill 15 players in oRvR" worked perfectly!  Now if it was only like this every single day.

So much death and PvP (RvR...) = win

It was freakin awesome today!!!  I was doin RVR for like 6 hours tonight!  Tons of fun.

Still a little weak on the rewards compared to scenarios.. they should make it 200% bonus for kills in the lakes rather then 100%

Yes, epic fights on Ironfist tonight too, going on for hours. Which is kind of irritating, as it's so freakin' obvious that the players just need a little incentive to RvR and get this game working like it should. Come on Mythic, this ain't brain surgery!

i think they need to have drops that are specific to the ORvR(besides from the keep loot) area and players should drop loot more often, and the BO buffs last for 60 minutes instead of 30.

Yah tonight was huge for ORvR for me also.I love the ORvR, its the best part of the game for me so im glad to see other people playing inORvR.I hope after the event they will take this as a new beginning to stay and play in the ORvR.Because its the real point of the game.

Karak eight peaks is pretty much huge war in tier 4 every night, it's amazing :)

(I didn't play DAOC though, so I don't know how it compares)

Once we have constant fighting in the RvR zones every night, this game will be IT. It's a lot of fun right now still, but not as awesome as it could be. Can't wait for the 1.1 patch to hit in December.

I totally agree!  Last night was awesome on my server, Sylvania.  There was a ton of oRvR last night.  It was great to hear in regional chat that keeps were being overtaken and seeing everyone running into the rvr lakes to join in.

There was one battle in the elven area where I swear there were hundreds fighting.  It was a blast.

The past week or so on my server I've been noticing the oRvR picking up a lot.  It's great to see.

This is good to hear. I quit the game a month ago, waiting to read things like this. What exactly did they do to make ORVR happen. Was it just a quest or was it other things as well. I personally hope they release no scenario servers, but i ll take anything that could be as good as DAOC days. Heres to hoping. I ll read a little more and keep an eye on it s progress before i re sub, but i hope it happens.

Yes, zerg on zerg, pointless tug O' war certainly reminded me of why I left DAOC so many years ago;)  Nothing has changed with Mythic.  Its why Emain sucked.  Its why TM in WOW sucked too.   Zerg PvP really is a bunch of lemmings bashing eachother over and over again walking off a cliff only to climb back up the mountain to walk off over and over again.

The big fights in DAOC ie 100 vs 100 for a keep were why i stayed in that game so long. 8 vs 8 crap is what i hated in DAOC, if they worked to help the realm by picking off reinforcements fine but the elitist don t take my kill crap i hated. I bought WAR for these big fights, back and forth battles, it didn t happen at first, if it changes i ll be back.

     Phoneix, Destruction, Represent!

Yep, we had a ball here at my house last night. I never seen so many players on screnn at one time!

I had a little chop, my pc is about 3 years outdated, but my wife's pc ran through the maddness on high quality without any chop!

I am so upgrading after Christmass, ...

I agree, although the same gear drops in oRvR as in scenarios (had 2 anihilator set feet drop last night), there still should be a little more incentive, be it events or drops.

On Volkmar there was a huge battle going on in Dragonwake for the whole night. Order tried to lock the zone. They really got us nailed down for a while because they where simply outnumbering us (2 warbands vs. 4 warbands). In the end we could stop the rush for a bit by taking back a Battle Objective. I had to go sleep after that so i don't know if they finally made it.

Although Volkmar has lost a lot of players there is still daily action in the oRvR lakes. Not as big as when they try to lock a zone but still around 2 warbands vs. 2 warbands.

RvR on Ironfist was rolling last night.  The fighting went on for hours, and was alot of fun.  There were many players on the screen and I maintianed playable framerates  The fight started at destro's warcamp and finally spilled over to the keep nearby.

I play order on bretonnia and I can honestly say that I have never been more proud of the way my faction played than last night.

It was indeed NOT a zerg, but a coordinated effort that created the essence of a full scale assault on a keep.

Every ranged pad was occupied and firing at will. Tanks in the front with ranged volleying shots from the rear, healers in their appropriate positions, engineers firing from the ramparts, and witch hunters popping priority targets at random/will.

If we died, we regroup in small sections to regain one foothold at a time. Yes it was a tug-of-war, but the good battles are the ones that have no clear winner. We kept the keep at the end of the day, but my god did we also take a fair pounding.

Zerging is dieing and simply running back en masse, both sides made concerted efforts to regroup and advance with caution to prevent further loss. That is tactics.

To each their own, but I had a blast last night, for a solid 3+ hours, and I didn't even want to log off - what more can you ask of a game? I'm only lvl 22 in Tier 3, and yet I never felt gimped and was able to contribute. My WoW rogue, played on a PvP server, always felt gimped being under the level cap and not having end-game gear. This is what I love about WAR's PvP. It may not be for everyone, but I had more fun last night than in any other MMO in a very long time!

    Well, to each his own.

I have always found large army fighting large army to be very exciting. Sure, it can devolve into a chaos mess but you can also have strategy and tactics.

I"m afraid taht small group upon small group is always over too quckly and sometimes just becomes a gank if the other is unaware. And as far as I'm concerned ganking an unprepared opponent means that I might as well be doing something (anything) else.

What I really like is that WAR combines the best of both worlds, so when you feel like truly epic world PvP, sieges and large-scale strategy, you join up with one of the many warbands in the RvR. When you feel like smaller, tactical combat you can simply join a scenario - and both ways are viable and contribute to the war effort. It's just pure awesome design by Mythic.

Last night was a blast! We had an open battle with about ~150-200 people in T3. Of course, first was big zerging around an castle, but after some time, "little" groups formed (10-30 people) and rushed for battlefield objects - constantly attacked by enemy "small" groups (same size). Some groups started to attack castles in other areas, while other warbands was still zerging and other defending or attacking objects. REAL great, hell of the fun! Rewards: ok (80% of one renown level) - even without would be extrem fun.

As a chicken scout I checked T2 and there were also many people around, although not so much as in T3 (don't know what happened in T4).

I agree. Played about 5 hours tonight... even though i finished the 15 players in about 10 minutes :D

I even filed a big report to congratulate mythic for finally encouraging oRvR.

Good thing Mark Jacobs is on to this!

    Folks,

Over the last few months I’ve spoken about our continued focus on improving our open RvR systems. While we have taken some major steps in the last month, we believe that there is much more we can do to encourage people to take part in oRvR throughout the entire evolution of their character(s). Over the next few months we have some very exciting changes and additions taking place. Please note that as always, this does not represent everything that either we are doing or thinking about doing, just what we, as of now, plan on adding to WAR.

We have a number of major initiatives planned for oRvR in WAR. Please keep in mind that these changes/systems apply to oRvR only and not to scenarios. This is not all we are working on but these do reflect the majority of oRvR additions that we are currently working on/planning for the next few months.

First, we have created an RvR Influence system. This system is designed to reward our oRvR players with lots of new stuff that you can only get through oRvR. This will be a complimentary system to our PQ Influence system. This system is already implemented in 1.1 and is scheduled to go LIVE along with that version in December.

Second, we want to improve the visibility that players have into oRvR and make it easier for players to get involved in the action quickly and easily. We have a number of wide-ranging changes going into our map and travel systems to allow players to better understand the state of oRvR in our game and also allow them to get to the action faster. We have already taken one step with putting a Rally Master in each Warcamp but we will also add the ability for people to have a second bind point to make it even easier for players to move around the maps. We will also make it easy for players to see where players from their Realm are engaging in oRvR, a Campaign HUD for all tiers and other improvements. We will also improve Tier-wide messaging about what is going on in Battlefield Objectives and Keeps. Other additions include changes to the UI, in-game manual improvements, map enhancements, and a few other changes.

Third, we want to provide greater incentives to players to participate in oRvR. In order to accomplish this we will be adding additional layers to the questing system of oRvR including the addition of Keep Quests, “Daily Event Quests”, Chained RvR Missions, improve the initial Tome Unlocks and other oRvR-oriented Events. We will also improve our BO itemization. Our goal is to provide players with even more incentive for participating in oRvR than we have already.

Fourth, we want to encourage guilds to take and control keeps, and we will continue our work on adding better rewards for Guilds who own Keeps as well as the addition of a system of Keep upgrades. This system will be added to the game in several stages beginning in the late winter.

Finally, we will begin work on a global oRvR “Fame” system that will be tied directly to the Tome of Knowledge which will provide more rewards, titles, experience, etc. for participating and being successful in oRvR. This system will provide even more incentives for people to participate in oRvR than the current systems and one that fits nicely both with the ToK’s concept as “This is your life” as well as an additional advancement and reward system.

Please keep in mind that these additions are subject to change and given the nature of these changes/improvements, they will not go LIVE until we have thoroughly tested them. However, these are crucial improvements to WAR and are being treated as such by the team.

Finally, I want to close this out with a brief explanation about the role that we believe that oRvR should play in WAR. It’s really as simple as this, oRvR should be a major focus for leveling, item gain, etc. in WAR. Some of the systems are already in place and in Tier 4, oRvR is alive and well. On other Tiers, however, oRvR is not being engaged in as often as we had hoped when we launched WAR. Our goal is to ensure that oRvR is the place where players can level the fastest, get the best items and overall, have a great time while doing it. It is supposed to be riskier, more challenging but ultimately, more rewarding than any other place within WAR. What is outlined in this letter are some of the ways we plan on making this happen over the next few months and beyond.

As always, we thank you for your patronage and support. We won’t let you down.

    Mark
