Not letting you disappointed, but first thoughts and plans about MO started on 2002y. DFo didn't have really much in 2002. I've got nothing against DFo, cause i think it's gonna be great sandbox game. The more success it achieves, the better for MO, and future sandbox games like earth rise. U mentioned beta ? :>
Well.. there are some rumors about playable alpha at the end of november. But ... don't say that loud
Not trying to rain on your parade, but DFO was in development way back in 1999. They had over 20 paid employees according to an interview way back in 2001.
MO is nothing but a fake pvp game that is made up of nothing more than a shitload of carebears. Go spend some time on their website and forums. They are some of the biggest carebears I have ever come across and the PVP in that game with their flagging system is nothing like the FFA open pvp centric game they advertize at all. The carebears on their website have already gotten the Devs to put in systems to combat pvp in the game and the massive numbers of morons from websites like this haven’t even shown up to REALLY finish off ruining that game yet. It showed some promise at first, but has been going downhill fast. Mortal Online will not be a PVP game, but a PVE game and it will not even be a good one at that. They try to make a world that people can’t get hurt however center it in a conquerable player owned and built world. Their focus and desires are for a PVP type game they are just too afraid to scare off the carebears who fear FFA type games and the possibility of getting ganked. Anyway, for anyone that doesn't believe me just go start a thread about PK on their forums and your will be bashed to hell.
So they aren't blindly following the angry vocal minority. Huh, maybe this game has more promise then I I initially thought. Thanks for the update have to keep a closer eye on it's development.
Hello mister Troll. I suggest you find out what is this flagging system is about. How does it restrict you from attacking someone? dont you think if you want to PK there SHOULD be concequences? UO had this system too, why didnt if fail, furthermore its one of the greatest mmos out there.
Just read about the flagging system it pretty much reminds me of L2, and I like it , still brutal , but you will think twice before just killing a random guy without a reason, people just going out on a random rampage is not my cup of tea and I dont see any immersion in that, unless you have some inherent faction hatret which games like this arent about.
Problem I have is MO was started in 2002, has no in game footage, has only 1 screenshot, isn't even close to finished if you base your opinion on the evidence at hand. It's great they had people in there office taking pictures and stuff like Aventurine has , thanks goes to MMORPG italia for that. Now to my issue so far, there already selling merchandise............ to a game that pretty much has 1 screenshot and 1 cenimatic trailer
I mean If there doing things better than DF then .... where's there beta, in game footage, screen shots, people reviewing the beta, are they offering a free trial or is this going to be another Pay to find out type of thing? I mean seriously I can't realy say I don't believe the game is real or isn't at this point. I am going to have to wait and see but the Cenematic Trailer with the T-Shirts already throws up some flags so I won't be keeping an eye on it like I am DarkFall but I will check on it once in a while. Just hope it's not another money Grab like AoC and DnL.

Allow me to clear a few things up for you. :]
1. Henrik thought up the idea for Mortal online, and went on a marketing campaign for three years. Gathering a team, support, and money to start the project.
In 2005 the game began its development.
This year it was released to the public, and vague information has been released monthly.
--
The 'Cinematic' trailer you speak of is actually in game footage. Sure it's pre-scripted, such as the guards sharpening their swords, and the actions the characters use.
But it is all live recording. There is no pre-rendering in the footage you see. I think the dragon may be an insert, but I can't accurately give you that information.
The one screenshot is indeed an in-game picture.
--
Your main concern was the lack of viable information. The DEV team as purposely kept a lot of information secret. Their reasoning is simple: The less we show you, the less you are disappointed when some of it doesn't end up in the game. They have a whole pile more done then they let on, and Alpha Testing begins within the week. I'm pretty sure we can safely assume there will be a free trial period, but who can say. :P

Yeah. This is what Darkfall did and everyone is bitching about them constantly on this website. Hypocracy FTW!
While i agree in Theory with what Avery said but being open and giving information to your fans really doesnt mean anything.
Vanguard was very open and gave alot of information to their fans, AOC did the same. Both had VERY disappointed fans.
I really dont know which is better, but i think i would rather have little information then alot of information that isnt really going to happen. Not that Mortal Online will do this of course. Like every other game we shall have to wait and see.
I am just happy that more developers are trying to make games that arent like WoW so all the power to them.

ok,now you can clean the froth in the coner of your mouth.
Before spitting so much garbage go read the thread carefully and the most important, try to understand what your are reading.
In the land of Predators, the lion does not fear the jackals...
Its actually surprising to me that the same people who spit "VAPROZ it won't come out!!11!" at Darkfall, and then say good things about Mortal Online.
Hmm its probably because Darkfall was delayed several times and thus pissed ALOT of people off, and it may also be because MO is only now getting exposure and is experiencing a honeymoon with the press.
Truth be told, MO is alot more shady than DF. I was actually rooting for MO for a while, until I realized it was a lot more of vaporware than DF, and had less features... and has good graphics which = large wars with a lot of lag. Aventurine had crafted their engine and said several times that they optimized it as much as possible, I'm not falling into a pit of alienwares any time soon so I'll go with Darkfall...
But both the games are yet to come out (lol at anyone believes the summer 09 date, that means the website will literally only have 7 more updates until release, meaning we may only know half the races and 1/4 of the features when the game is released, as there is a update once a month), and either one could come out on top, we know ALOT of how DF is going to be, it'll run smoothly, have a little bugs (its internal testing was forever!!), have cr@p initial animations, and it will be underwhelming to our expectations, but still be a great game.
Mortal Online seems like DF lite but with better graphics.
The main thing that seperates the 2 is the way they approach pvp flagging and casual players. Shadowbane died partly due to the endgame to not appeal to casuals. DF specifically states that there are a lot of features that make the game fun for casuals, such as noobs being able to pvp from day one, noobs being at a similar power level of a vet, and individual player skill being as important as how long someone played, and said, however you will not run a guild and rule the world as a casual. MO states that the game's ffapvp is considered "hardcore" for a lot of people and specifically stated to be catering to pre-trammel UO pvp fans.
In MO there are no races and no "alignment," and thus a flagging system, which seems to be put in place after carebare whining, this intentionally hinders pvp. In DF racial pvp is highly encouraged but interaccial pvp is highly discouraged, but DF specifically said its not impossible and there are several neutral towns and markets made specifically for alternatively aligned players.
SO FAR the verdict states that DF will be better, but we don't know all that much about MO as they may be hiding an awesome feature or may simply polish better than DF. Time will tell but as of now the victor is DF.

Where did you find there are no races in MO ? Tindremen, Khurites, Half-orcs, forest elves - wtf are those ? Nicknames ? The thing with no "alignment" is kind of true. There are no fractions, forcing the player to choose his path before he even starts to play.
I am still astonished seeing statements containing: which game will be better. It's only about nuances in game mechanics and some rules. Anyway, want to know ? Go to a fortune-teller. Any sandbox game will be good if it makes to survive on the market, and will attract gamers at later time - not only at the release date.
Why all those people only look at graphics ? It can't have that good graphics as top rated single player games. It's impossible, but still hundreds of peeps whine about it. DFo has decent gfx for a mmorpg game. Different (in positive meaning) than all wow-clones or korean so called mmorpg games. And that's how I see it.

my bad, i meant racial conflict, yes there WILL be races. And yes its better in one sense that there's no racial conflict because conflict will then be solely player driven, but MO needs to be careful about its implimentation, because a flagging system is exactly what L2 had, and you killed another person an epic 2 times a day (at most).
Wow, Where do i start with this.. Ok.. FIRST.. I'm not bias to one game or another. I'll try BOTH!! Both have the "Verbage" used to describe the gameplay I want. I gotta try them to see what one will be the better game for me. Haveing said that, I would like to say that I think MO gives me more of a professional feel. The graphics they were rendering in that video looked good. Darkfall has been through ups and downs. its been an emotional roller coaster of a game. Good Luck to both games..

Damn. MMORPG.com must have messed up when they added the Mortal Online forums. I'm still on the Darkfall forums.
Moderator, can you please fix this?
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
Someone kicked the DF log and all the roaches scurried over to the MO forums.
Prepare for endless threads of hate-spewing.

The amount of douchebaggyness the op gives off is astonishing.
People can find anything to try and argue about now days, even mmo's. "NO THIS NONRELEASED MMO IS GOING TO BE BETTER THAN THIS NONRELEASED MMO!"
I think you missed the point, it what they are doing before release.

yes, the idea behind MO is oustanding........the execution from SV is atrocious.
great ideas are often completely ruined by sloppy implementations.
