Teens get takeaway food at fatal crash

A GROUP of teenagers involved in a crash that killed an 82-year-old man and left his 72-year-old partner fighting for her life had fast food delivered to them at the crash site, a witness says.
The elderly couple were in a van involved in a collision at a Gold Coast roundabout with an unregistered car allegedly driven by a disqualified teen driver on Saturday, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.
Residents who lived near the roundabout in Miami said that as they rushed to help the couple, the five teenagers in the Subaru WRX got out and watched.
Resident Stephen Waymouth said the van was still rolling when he looked over his fence.
When he reached it he saw the man was unconscious and the woman was "wailing".
While residents comforted the distressed woman, the five teens stood motionless on the footpath, he said.
NEWS.com.au, 23 Jun 2008 Mr Waymouth and another man, Fabian Atzori, said none of the youths attempted to help.
Mr Waymouth said he was "disgusted" by their behaviour.
"They just stood there, and then they sat down and then someone dropped Maccas off to them," he said.
"What is it with young people where they can just turn off to human injury?" said Mr Atzori.
Fire crews used the jaws of life to cut the roof off the van and the elderly couple were taken to Gold Coast Hospital.
The woman suffered abdominal and leg injuries and the man had chest injuries. He died later in hospital.
Broadbeach police Sergeant Brendon O'Reilly said the Subaru and its owner were known to police - the vehicle had been impounded for 48 hours on November 13 in relation to hooning offences.
Police interviewed the five youths at the scene. The driver was charged with obstructing police while three of the others were handcuffed but not charged.
No other charges had been laid last night.

I understand. Just three days ago my family and I resorted to eating at a Canadian hamburger joint. Not the most prouder of my moments but I had to do what I had to do.

Hmmm, Maybe they thought it was all just a cut scene from GTA IV.
He has an IQ of 185, some respect.

Yeah Canada is bad, they have healthcare for everyone.... lets nuke em'
@ the topic: these five youngsters are probably "gangsta" thugs grown up on violence and murder.
Which explains why they just didn't care.
Don't worry kiddo. Fast food joints will still hire a 185.
Absolutely

Luckily, I guess, for the woman at least, the accident happened in a residential area where folks with an ounce of humanity, decency and common sense ran to her aid. Could you imagine if this happened in a rural area with no one around? they probably would have just watched her die while complaining that their pizza delivery is late.
Could the teens be charged for not rendering aid to the woman?
"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"
The teens tried to play innocent but they turned out mentally challenged.
damn those teenagers. i think its the irresponsibilty and the ignorance caused this very unfortunate event to happen. i hope that the teenagers rot in the juvenile institution. its really annoying for the fact that the driver is a disqualified one yet he still insisted/persisted on driving. young people nowadays doesn't realize that to be able to live in this world, they should cooperate to its natural order... *sigh*
this is just plain evil. how teen are these teens?
recently, a friend of mine also got into an accident due to a 13yearold handling a car. both of the cars were total wrecks and my friend had no other option but to sell it to a junkshop because it was rendered irreparable. though my friend didn't suffer any other injury other than a broken leg (since it was the passenger's side of his car that suffered most of the damage), the 13yearold on the other hand had to be rushed to a hospital. the downside was the fact that my friend was a foreigner at that country and so the family managed to talk the police out of arresting their child and letting them pay for damage and stuff.
tsk tsk.. i guess you could blame environmental factors for that.. music, tv, GTA?

I'm 17 and i can tell you right now that i would be over to help in a heartbeat.
And hey Mr.IQ-185... It's crisis not crises
My build: Sapphire Radeon HD 4850, Asus P5GC-MX/1333 Motherboard, 4gb G.SKILL DDR2 667MHz RAM, Core 2 Duo e7200 CPU, 250gb Western Digital SATA Harddrive, Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit.
Hmm im 17 and i would do the same thing.I wouldent risk my own life to save somone elses.Thats the job for the fireman and ambulance some teenagers had noting to do with it.
Then you are pathetic. First the teens had everything to do with it, they were involved. I am amazed to see teens here admitting they wouldn't lift a finger to help save anothers life. Why is that, cause your pathetic existance is more important? I have been in a serious car accident before, and without even a second thought once I got outta my own wreck I ran to check on the other ppl and helped them out. I guess my generation has more respect for life than what todays youth does.
first of all, the teenagers were the cause of the accident. and i think a person who wouldn't help some people who are almost dying is a big effin coward and doesn't deserve a decent life. age has nothing to do with helping. the line of work doesn't determine the instances where you should help.
The car required "jaws of life" to remove them... what exactly were the teens supposed to help with? As to ordering take out... that's pathetic.
In my CPR class I was taught once you begin CPR on someone you open yourself up to being liable for that individual if you stop and they die... so the best thing is to not begin CPR in our lawsuit happy country... not that CPR would have helped in this situation anyway...
huh...I read the thread title, and thought that this was going to be about WoW subs
Interesting. Even as much as I generally loathe humanity, I would likely attempt to assist, and certainly if I were responsible for the crash.
Even a comforting voice would be doing something helpful in this situation.
Ordering food?? Hm. I don't know what to think of that, really. It just doesn't seem like something I would think to do......crack a beer, maybe....but not sure I'd order food.
I remember back in 1999, folks kept asking me if I was stockpiling food. I always answered, "No, I'm stockpiling ammo and making a list of people who are stockpiling food"

That's the most generalized paragraph I have ever read on this forum. Honestly, if you are somehow going to conclude this statement because of four teenage ass holes then I don't know what to tell you.
I'm a teenager. If I caused the accident I would first be scared as shit (assuming I could drive) and be stunned for a second. Then, if I was okay, I would then check on the other people to see what the problem was.
You can always say "OH, I would risk my life to safe another!" but you never truly know until you are in that position.

I like how they say "Young people these days!" Even though most adults and elderly don't do ANYTHING AT ALL when some accident or tragedy happens before them (Except for perhaps watching). It's not an age thing, It's a human thing.
Also, there's the possibility that the teenagers just didn't realise what has happened yet. There's many cases where people who have been in accidents don't react or feel anything til afterwards.
This time Enigma, I'm going to have to agree with you.
