It appears that SOE has updated retailers with a new release date for EverQuest II. Most web sites are now reporting that it will now be appearing in stores on November 9, 2004! We have updated our game list accordingly.
If you are interested in pre-ordering this upcoming MMORPG - just click here.
NOTE: This is not an official word from SOE - but our sources are indicating this is a very likely release date for EQII.

Where did you get this info from?
There is not one single official word of this at all on either the website or the beta forums.
How about linking to the real info - when they decide make this rumor official?

People that have preordered the game from different online stores have been getting emails from these stores updating them on the status of their preorder, in those emails telling them that the publisher has changed the release date. SOE on the official forums have neither confirmed nor denyed the change date but have said that information is coming soon. I got my email this morning from EBgames but what SOE has said is what I've read in one post in the EQ2 section. If all of these stores are changing their dates at the same time I believe something is up and think this is real.

EQ2 isn't even close to being ready with all the lag that is in the game, no way it will be ready for all the poeple that are waiting to play it. There is no info on this in beta so don't think this is true.
Having checked over the boards, the only thing official posted today was by Smedley, on the Beta boards...
"Keep in mind we haven't put out the offical announcement just yet... but it's coming."

Even if the game is buggy like you said it still will be fun as it is. I am sure the game play will improve.

Maybe it not ready but Soe's reputation is alway release buggy game and fix it later.
I'm looking forward to the game but not if it means it's not ready. Sounds somewhat depressing to hear that the game isn't ready for primetime but that it has a release date. Could it have the same demise as SWG? Ouch...that would suck. I'm concerned....very concerned.

big corporations like SOE don't care about any of that...
they just tell some low executive that its comming out on such and such day, and if its not ready it'll be his ass
hence SWG's release
Games back in the day came out near flawless on release and only had a handful of people create them... then all the corps got into it and you get these games nowdays that need patching the day they are put on the shelf... and games like Pool of radiance 2 that would require you to remformat your hardrive if you uninstalled it(useing a user specified drive instead of C:)
EA and SOE don't care about you, they care about your money...

Was added AFTER this thread was started.
Highly doubtful that it was added later since its in the original news blurb as well.
There is a certain kind of veteran of the boards that just HAS to pounce on any information and attack its credibility.
The admins are just passing along bits of info. If they pan out great...if they dont, oh well. why do people have to attack every little thing on forum boards?
The game is nowhere near ready (from first hand experience) but as has been said, this is Sony's method.
For the person that said "in the good old days games were shipped with no bugs" - I hope you arent talking about MMOs because they have ALWAYS had major bugs at release.
The original EQ shipped with bugs we had been complaining about in beta. UO had bugs too. AO had so many bugs they should have declared it an ants pile.
Doesnt mean we shouldnt try to hold companies accountable. If you play the game at release and it bites...complain on their forums and wherever else. They hear you. And if its too much trouble to play through the bugs, stop playing. Vote with your credit card. They hear that too.
You can see from my post count that I am not a veteran.
I am in EQ2 Beta and the game is FAR from being ready, and wont be anywhere close to be ready by the 8th.
I feel really sorry for the EQ2 Devs, they KNOW they can do better, but the Finance and Marketing people are the ones pushing this forward, just to beat WoW.
Therefore I find it rather amusing that the talk this morning is that WoW have now pushed their date BACK, and have not tried to match SoE's stupidity.
I bet Blizzard are laughing their asses off, as SoE have more or less shot themselves in the foot and now look to everyone as nothing more than a greedy developer, more instested in beating the competition to release so that they can rake in a few extra $$$, rather then show some true care for their 'Customers' (wonder if they know what that word means?) and make the release as good as they possibly can
I'm almost tempted to pass up on EQ2 and get WoW instead just to spite SoE.
I felt sorry for the SWG devs. I'm sure they were passionate about being involved in the development of a Star Wars based MMORPG.
But the EQ2 devs should have known better than to get involved with a company with a reputation for bullying its devs.
I mean seriously, if you were a vegetarian would you go work in McDonalds?

LOL Blizzard has a bad rep also when diable 2 and starcraft was in they patchede a spybot into the game with out saying it to anyone..... To bad for them that we found out.
Every mmorpg that comes out are full of bugs and thats whats happends..... No company is perfect.
After 13 MMORPGS/Online games I am WELL aware that "Every mmorpg that comes out are full of bugs and thats whats happends..... No company is perfect.", but EQ2 is so far from being releasable like you'd never believe, and ONLY a sad Fan-"please rip me off SoE"-Boy would say otherwise.
I'm not asking for a 'perfect' game, as there is no such thing.
I think you guys missed this...

Major distributors are usually the first to learn news of a release date with an expected hot title so they can prepare their stores and staff for the impending rush of people wanting to buy and all the questions that go along with it.
It actually makes sense that they will release a full week ahead of WoW as Sony is wanting to grab as many would be WoW players as it can. Going off of Blizzard history, I do believe they realize that Blizzard will not rush WoW in order to beat EQII to market. The idea being if EQII can grab the $50.00 of all the players out there, by the time WoW releases people won't goto WoW since they just invested in a game already. And lets face it, alot of gamers out there are cheap when it comes to software so this ploy, if true, is actually very smart on the part of Sony. However I am reading alot of people saying EQII is no where near ready to be released - if this is true I wonder if it will end up hurting EQII in the long run. After all, the Everquest names only goes so far, doesn't it?
Guess time will tell. For me though, I'm holding out for WoW and will let you find gamers go the EQII route first so let me know if it's worth it or not!!
I have 2 copies preorderd. Im in beta now ...if they release nov 8th ill most probable return both
copies to the store.
The game is far far far from a finished product.
I agree with Valorous....
I think this move is absolutely Brilliant from a marketing standpoint. They Know that releasing a week ahead of their biggest compettitor will boost their sales. Allot of gamers right now are undecided about which game to get because (like me) they have never played either one. So they will most likely buy the first one to hit the shelves.
Most people will not immediately go out and buy another game after spending 50 dollars. They will likely stick with the game they originally purchased simply because they already have time and money invested in it. I really dont think there are allot of players who will or can afford to buy both. This will hurt WOW in the beggining but may hurt EQ2 in the long run since they are obviously doing this for the specific reason of beating WOW to the punch. Which means they will have to release a game that is not ready. People may likely only play the free month and quit because they are under the impression that the game they are playing IS the final product.
