Im resting my MMO career in the hands of Darkfall. More specifically, im quitting all MMO's if Darkfall bombs. Its my last hope. Im losing sanity.

Here is my MMO history. Early 07 played Vanguard. Loved it but only played till mid summer 07. Picked up WoW and played a lvl 70 rogue and shaman. I quit about a month after hitting 70 on my second character. Went without a game for a few months and eagerly awaiting AoC. That failed me so i again went without an mmo till september and am currently playing WAR, but just as something to do.

Point is that ive been let down too many times and these games are beginning to seem like all these new releases are the same game.  If Darkfall fails me, im done. No more will i waste money and more importantly time on games that let me down.

Anyone else feel the same?

You are still an MMO baby!

I have been through the beginning until now . . .

If this fails . . . we still have a few more prospects (Fallen Earth, Mortal, Earth Rising).

Wow!  One year of MMO's has turned you off?  I must be plumb out of my mind then...and no doubt plenty here would agree.

I also dabbled in POTBS and LOTRO but no games thus far have hooked me. Im sure you were around for the "original" MMO's so you know what its like to play something revolutionary. Every game past Vanguard that ive played has seemed EXACTLY THE SAME. I need something dramatically different than quest grind quest grind pvp quest grind quest grind pvp group quest grind quest grind pvp..... you get the idea. maybe you guys could recommend a game that i would like that i havnt tried?

If DF does not deliver then im done.

If a friend gets in touch with me and says that mortal or another decent sandbox pvp takes off then ill check it out maybe.  But i wont follow mmos anymore because whats on the market right now is such trash.

I think you found a new home poker guy

  • Ive played in order (and i mean subscribed no free trials or betas) Everquest, World of Warcraft, Rising Forces, EVE, Everquest II, and Warhammer Online.  The only one of them I really really enjoyed was EQ.  WoW has its moments but its spiraling downward.  Rising Forces got kind of lame when it went FTP not that it matters now that the servers are down.  EVE felt like a job, not going to lie, might as well do overtime >_<  EQ II was a bad knockoff of other games, and was just horridly unbalanced, that and its graphics were...annoying with lack of a better description.  As far as going all in, i dunno.  I guess ive been kind of picky, meaning ive only been willing to try brand new games.  If this doesnt work out im just going to hop into an old game.  I have my eye particularly on Ryzom and Lineage II.  I know everyone hates them and all, but im a sucker for grindathons, anything without mission/quest grinding.

And if EQ made a classic server i would hop and it woudl be near impossible to tear me off.  I'm suprised they havn't done it, its hard for me to conseptualize why when I know so many people who share the same feelings.  Anyway, I am hugely stoaked for Darkfall.  I'm so desperate I could see myself forcing me to play it.  I hope it works out.  If ti really is awful though I'm still in for the MMOs.

Im just hoping this will be my new UO. I started playing UO nearly 12 years ago. I miss the good old days of the sandbox games. You kids have it too easy these days with your Vanguards and WoWs. This is a real game for real players.

I think we have all been let down by the trash that has hit the market lately. Warhammer and AoC being on the top of the list. WoW kept my intrest for about two years before I got bored. I've participated in beta of nearly every major MMO release since UO and the only thing I can say is DF may be the savior for the industry.

I feel as many do that are fed up with the industry and are hinging their MMO futures on this game. I hope we won't be disapointed.

I hope it'll be great. As of last week I've taken another break from MMOs. After TR, AOC, WAR, my faith in the genre has dwindled again, and I'm tired of having to go back to games that I quit years ago just to enjoy myself.

Darkfall isn't really my last hope, because I know I'll never be able to leave MMOs for good, and there are some other great titles being worked on. If it fails, I'll probably just sigh, uninstall and move onto the next one and lower my expectations even more.

But I've been rooting for the Adventurine team. If they pull this off, I'll be thrilled. =)

Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV

I also started on UO when I was like 16 (im 28 now) and nothing..... NOTHING has been able to bring back that feeling. I think alot of peopel get that way because it is there first MMO.

Hate to say this but DF isnt giving me that OMG I MUST PLAY NOW sit all day in work rush inside throw shoes off and log in the way UO did. Maybe its because im older I dunno but that MMO obsessive magic isnt there. DF is Very addictive but I can easily log off where UO almost killed my entire social life

    *Shrugs* who knows

Well you seemed to learn what others still havent gotten in years.... that the new era of MMO's is as bad as the new Era of music. LilWayne ftl

Dont get me wrong - the games out now do not appeal to me either.  Though I dont think we need anything revolutionary, and nothing in DF is revolutionary.  It has been done before in other games.  However, Darkfall puts all the right pieces in one game.  All that is left, is to verify that the pieces really are all there, and that performance is acceptable - in other words, the hard part.  The last game I played seriously was Roma Victor, which has many of the same features as DF.  I would still be playing it, if it  wasnt a pile of junk from the technical perspective.  I really wish Aventurine would ramp the beta up big time.

But, if this one doesnt pan out, there is MO among others.  Once you get a taste of what "could be" you want more!

Far from it. You haven't played a real MMO til you have played in the 'sandbox'. The MMOs as of late...anything made in the past 5 years haven't really given the same feel of openness and freedom you will get from a 'sandbox' style game.

I am interested in Guild Wars 2.

But there is no sub-forum for it here

Rofl, real game, real players, don't listen to that elitist nonsense mate. Anyone who enjoys videogames is a 'real' player, unfortunately some of the 'older' gamers are far more immature than the younger ones.

Anyway I'm pretty much in the same boat as you atm.

You don't know what it means to be let down. Sounds like your bummed, now go buy a bunch of MMOs a shitload of chips (or whatever your gaming food is) sit down at your computer desk and call me in 2 years. Other than that. yeah this game better deliver. God bless.

I would say the vast majority of people on the forums would agree with the OP. That being said we all know if DF fails we would swear off all MMOs... for about month then come back looking for another one.

Yeah, me as well... A classic server, maybe with a graphics engine update, would be great... I would definitly play that again. SOE will never do it though, a indie or whatever would have to buy the rights to host the game and set this up for it to happen. It would be a great way for a new company to gain some MMO hosting experience actually.

If DF doesn't deliver, then I'm quitting DF for the next big thing.  Yeah, that about sums it up for me.  There will always be another great MMO title on the horizon, and if nothing is worth playing at the moment, there are always a number of good RPGs and FPS games to carry me through until the next release.

I can understand if you've spent a lot of money on a genre that hasn't stuck for you (I waited a year w/o a game to play Age of Conan then quit after two months, also quit after one month of playing WarhammerOnline).

But the thing that keeps me coming back for more is that first game that I REALLY got sunk into.  For me that was WoW (two and a half years).  I know that there CAN be a game out there that can be equally as fun, and Im looking for it.

Unfortunately I'm learning to lower my standards, as I understand WoW had already been out a year when I started.

i think I'm going to wait a few weeks after release day before I buy Darkfall, to see what the reviews say.

In the meantime I'm going to watch for the forums and news and play the FPS game I keep coming back to.

.. but yeah some of these guys on the forums have been doing this for 9 years, so you might not get the sympathy, although Im sure they've been where you are

Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.

I hear you bro. I played UO back in the day and it was the best computer game experience of my life. I am now 35. WoW was pretty good for the 2 years I played it because my friends and I got addicted to raiding for epicz

If WoW made a free for all loot server then I would be back there.

Anyway I am looking forward to a deep sandbox game and pray DF delivers. Otherwise I will go play Magic Online or something.

    ''98-''99 UO (Golden days!)
    ''00-''02 CS; SB beta
    ''03-''04 MODO
    ''04-''07 WoW
    ''07 - SB
    Waiting for Darkfall and PoBS

I agree - DF is my last hope.. played UO pre-trammel and quit when trammel was introduced.. I then played EQ and had a blast even though it was very different. Then I played DAoC and had a blast as well...but from there it has just been thrash released on the market in my book... nothing worth putting my time into...and I tried a lot of them, and if I didnt try them, my buddy did...Looking SO much forward to DF, and if DF fails, I have to find another hobby..
