Man I get tired of people's "these aren't real RPG games". SO What!
This is a video Game forum and these are Video Game RPGs. Most of my favorite RPG video games didn't involve heavy stat manipulation or consequences for decisions. (Ultima had a lot of that which I did enjoy as well, but Final Fantasy did not and I definitely consider it to be an RPG).
Of MMO games (which is what I pretty much exclusively play lately) I would say Lord of the Rings Online is the best RPG MMO on the market.
Currently playing: LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too: Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
If you mean 'Roleplaying' in it's truest form - then basically no MMO that has been released in the last 4 years, unless it is some really underground MUD. RP is dead for MMO's. I think people need to wise up to this. Singeplayer I'd say Mass Effect.
So your saying Baldur's Gate wasnt a good RPG because you spoke to npc's? your insane.......comparing mmo's and single player rpg's to each other is like comparing a basketball game to a baseball game...sure they are both sport games but they are two completely different kind of games. MMO's are supposed to be social thats the point....There are great single player rpg's more than there are good mmo's
Just ignore Zorndorf. He is one of those "WoW Fanboys" that thinks World of Warcraft is the greatest game in the world.
Anything short of calling WoW the best at everything is met with scorn by him.

lol, well this time next year I hope to be voting Dragon Age best rpg of the year.....
Yeah I haven't purchased a Single player Game since Company of Heroes came out (the original not the expansions and before that it was KoToR 2), but I will definitely be purchasing Dragon Age.

Fallout 3. I'd vote Mass Effect, except for 2 reasons. One, Fallout 3 had a lot more important decisions and a more interactive world, even if the plot was weaker. The ability to interact with a world and decide, on your terms, what happens, where it happens, and where you go is more important to the concept of an RPG for me than a good plot.
The second is Mass Effect released in 2007. Call me a purist like that.

If you include MMOs in your poll, then my vote goes for LotRo: Mines of Moria
If you don't include them then I have no idea. Didn't play any of the newer RPGs.
