The official board is ablaze with outrage right now. Official reply from BioWare on the matter has already been posted in a different thread on this site.
Needless to say, if they keep this idea in their head, they've more or less sunk the ship before it ever floated. *smirk*
Stupid....very stupid idea EA. Right up there with SOE's ideas of the New Gaming Experience..
Any idea why the sudden micromanagment push???? SOE is doing it and now SW:TOR???
Apparently may hit Single player games as well wtf??? lol
Have they all lost there friggin minds?
If sony goes through with what they seem to want then PS3 isn't gonna do well at all, everyone is going to be picking up 360's.
To calm this emotional outburst of myself and many others down some....for the moment, it seems a lot like one of EA's people blabbed something that is far from final (again), in an interview, acting the idiot, as EA people are apparently prone to do.
Sean Dahlberg has contacted the community and promised to get back in touch by tomorrow with more details. So I will hold out till then.
But yeah...I have no idea what they are thinking about. Stupidity knows no bounds when it comes to managing people in the gaming industry it seems.
My Star Wars fandom can't repel Bulls**t of this magnitude!
ABANDON SHIP!
EVERYONE FOR THEMSELVES!

We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." (First Lieutenant Clifton B. Cates, US Marine Corps, Soissons, 19 July 1918)
I was dismayed with this bit of news, but I've come to accept it and completely distance myself from this "MMO."
It's now much for fun to watch the rest of this unfold. Plus, I want to see what tapdancing maneuvers Bioware will do to put out the fires.
I don't think they'll budge despite the outrage you'll see in every MMO board that mentions this game and this bit of news.
My guess as to what will happen?
It's Star Wars. It's Bioware. It's a "KotOR" game. You're going to suck that nut down, and you will like it.
It's going to be hilarious to see people sucking it down for Bioware.

Well I wish you and Earthrise luck Draccan, if this MT crud catches on we may all need a good bit of luck lol.

Update from EA/The site of the original Interview:
"Update: Electronic Arts has responded to Shacknews, reiterating that "no statements have been made about the Star Wars business model," and attributing Mr. Riccitiello's comments to a misunderstanding."

People love freaking out about things that haven't been actually announced yet and have no details about. From what I understood in that is EA is going to have subscription based and microtransaction based games. It didn't say "Hey, SW:TOR is going to be microtransation"
Also, microtransation could mean a lot of things. I just don't understand why people need to freak out so much about things. Is there nothing more important to do?

I know right? It sounds a lot like back-pedalling from EA to me at this point. Something like. "Oh crap...he shouldn't have mentioned that yet! Let's say something to keep them happy for now!" -.-

They waited for 70-80 pages on the official forums of discussions before jumping in..
Electronic Arts has responded to Shacknews, reiterating that "no statements have been made about the Star Wars business model," and attributing Mr. Riccitiello's comments to a misunderstanding.
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

Microtransactions mean 2 things:
1) To be competetive or having a well built character, you will pour in far more money than you would with a normal subscription based game. Each transaction is cheap... but they WILL hook you with numerous purchases, which will all add up. You think $14.99 / month subscription is expensive? HA! Wait till you play a Microtransaction based MMO.
2) You avoid "Cash Shops" and what not while playing with a Microtransaction-based MMO. But your character will be seriously gimped because you didn't pay extra money for: Cash Shop gear which surpasses anything you find in-game, powerful buffs / bonuses that expire, pay to unlock regions and abilities, etc. These are big advantages not to have... **especially** in PvP!
I've had my experience in an MT based game, and it disgusted me. To make matters worse, it started off as a regular subscription per month type of MMO, then I go on a deployment, come back, and BAM! It's all the sudden an MT game with no turning back.
As far as the update by EA, the fact that it took them so long to reply after a "simple misunderstanding" was that they were actually going to do it until they found out they'd lose everyone before the game even went beta!
LOL! Bunch of idiotic morons at EA and Bioware!

time will tell
EA could do far more by stating there will be no RMT model used -- instead of saying "nothing is known"
from reading the original article about an earlier interview, the context does not bode well
In an interview earlier this year, Ricitiello noted that the company saw potential in launching "mid-session games on a microtransaction model" after the relative success of FIFA Online in Korea and other markets. During today's call, he spoke of the shift towards online gameplay and monetization as a "global, not just Asia phenomenon.
Sick of Lucas and his lame idea's and LA needs to get out of the whole game business!
Was looking forward to this game but after the SWG train wreck and the way they treated everyone i knew they just couldnt get a clue about how to make a game that will succeed no matter what company develops it, i say F them all!
Mr Lucas seems to still be trying to milk that cow for every little drop..
After SWG, Episode's I,II,III and the force unleased ,plus that stupid cartoon I now wash my hands of anything Star Wars.
Besides I like EVE and im sure STO will be pretty good as well.
SWTOR has even dropped off the 'hype' radar on the front page...
I'm not saying some concerns are unfounded but mass paranoia and 'mob' mentality are just sad.
It's easy to fall victim of the hype, both positive and negative... but much more difficult to assess a situation as an individual capable of reason and critical thinking.
I personally remain, as I always have, cautiously optimistic and look forward to watching this game develop into the Star Wars experience many of us believe BioWare can deliver.
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

The more I read about STOR the more it seems to be Guild Wars with a Star Wars skin and a micro transaction store.
What a crock.
No biggie, with Earthrise, Darkfall, Mortal, Fallen Earth, Champions, Maybe one new MMO won't suck.
Ahh well, I'll always have EVE. Which is going to have a good year with the new T3 ships among other things around the corner.
