Because I like to only play one character. I thought we only controlled our character when I downloaded the game.
Now if there wasn't a timer on how long it's your turn, so you can take your time and assign actions for every Mercenary, I'd be more interested. But rushing through a fight to ensure you get in as many attacks isn't my idea of fun.

Shrug. It's right there on the official website, you hire mercenaries as you go. I agree, you don't see that in one glance, but a quick perusal of the short guide would have revealed it. The guide also mentions the time restriction btw.
Also, I presume most of the readers of these forums aren't new to MMOs - now, having been burned by several titles over these past few years (don't tell me you enjoyed every single MMO you tried?), surely you at least google up some reviews before plunging into something new? After all, something making such bold claims as being the "first turn based MMO" should have set off your "wtf, is this for real?" detectors and had you searching for reviews to see if other people could testify to that.
Lastly, we live in the age of Youtube. Game companies can't bullshit us all the time anymore, people will post real in-game gameplay videos, instead of trailers that subtly emphasise only what they want us to see. Granted, there are tons of poorly made amateur gameplay vids but on the flipside at least they're not carefully edited propaganda videos (which is what trailers are).

Don't take this as a flame; this is an observation that people really should know better to do a little research nowadays before wasting time on downloading something that they won't like (you specifically state that you uninstalled it because you only like to play one character - something you could've easily found out within a minute or two of searching for info on this game).
Personally, I find the lack of actual depth is what is putting me off the game. I'm a tbs fan (think of the original PSX FFT, and the level-grinding PS2 Atlus games), so I was quite disappointed with the relative primitiveness of the "strategy" in Atlantica Online.

Well, if this was a P2P game, I'd of searched for reviews. Since it's a F2P game, all it costed me was time and I have plenty of time. The only thing I read about Atlantica was one article off this website talking about its turn-based combat system. I liked the sound of that and thought about how cool it would be to group up with others using this system; so I downloaded the game. I didn't want to waste time reading guides or anything on the website or in the Atlantica forums on this website, because I am still knee deep in WoW: WOTLK. Atlantica was just a side thing for me that I wanted to try since it had an interesting mechanic and is free.

if you didint like that kind of battle system why did you download? you must be one of those completely failure bad players my self i love the game ive had more fun and not even bored yet after 20 mins unlike all the late p2p mmos i just love it when bad players whine cuase its to hard like on aoc when noobs couldint get the combos right
i guess this is not the game for so you better scram! lols! anyway, you should play it more so you would appreciate the. the timer is being set for you to be able to think under pressure. to give an additional challenge for the gamers. atlantica isn't just any ordinary hack-slash game...it is the best game for me so far,,,,
You can play one character in any other game though...The beauty of AO is that you control an entire team and have to make your decisions quickly....Thsi game is a breath of fresh air for me because after years of EQ/WoW/Lotro type of games it is a nice change to have to work with more than one toon.
you wont appreciate the game at first, for me, but as you go on, do more quests and try the other features of the game you'll eventually like it and get hooked to it.. the turn based battle mode is good especially in the pvp's, more room for strategies and combos.. but if you dont really like the game, go get yourself another mmo game.. haha

I love atlantica!!!!!!!!! HAPPINESS is Killing me!!!! have me!!! push me and then you touch so i can get my satisfaction!!! I love atlantica!!! party!!!!!!!!!!!
i'm guessing this guy dosen't know the true meaning of an turn based mmorpg, or this guy is and moron. Well he should of looked on youtube or the game guide on there offical website before of downloading it, thats what every mmo player dose.
and i'm guessing as well he haven't played a turned based game in his life before Atlantica online, it's ok !
I uninstalled it fast because I thought the graphics and story was bad.
The way they handled the combat could have been better also, like in the classic games "Pools of radiance" and "Neverwinter nights" (Not Biowares but the first online game).
You on the other hand should have read a little about the game, then you wouldn't have to waste your time like that, in turn based combat you usually controls more than one character.
I would prefer a MMO based on Heroes of might and magic or Suikoden than this, turn based games can actually be pretty fun. My favorite is still Death knights of Krynn, it was really good at it's time.
Cough.... I've been doing my reserch about the game, And i have read everything about the game including Class c, and Class d Mercendarys, Decemeber 16th update and heaps more than you'll ever know, "so don't say i havn't read anythink".
And the combat is alright in my experence of playing on/offine turn based games.
Also if you thought the graphics were that bad," wtf YOU DOWNLOAD THE 2GB+ FILE".
if i knew it was that bad i wouldn't of downloaded the file.
And why did you even post this Thread it's pointless
well i really like RPG's specially in consoles and online...
since WoW costs me much... would wanna try it...
any grins and grimaces??
Zeusus, i'm 99% sure loke wasn't talking to you.

Hmmmmm I still dont get the "Graphics are bad" complaints..... I came from LoTRO before this and I thought the graphics are every bit as good if not better...... Its not like Warhammer, WoW, and gaems like that have better graphics...... For a 2 GiG download I think the game has pretty good graphics really, hardly a gamebreaker.

You've got to be kidding me.
First of all, how lame are you at this that you can't assign attacks for 5 measly players in 30 seconds? (I say 5 judging by your first day uninstall?)
Having multiple players is one of the core strategic concepts of this game. The ONLY downside to it in my book is that it's more expensive to equip so many fighters. But it adds a great deal of strategy and customization. I dare you to make as many builds for one character class in WoW as different parties you could make in this game, given the possible builds, lineups, and formations.
I understand where you're coming from, I really do. WoW has taught so many gamers that all you have to do to win is look up a mindless skill build, grind your ass off, and get a bunch of money. (And, oh yeah, mindlessly follow orders from a microphone, if you're in a raid.) So when somebody comes along and asks you to use your brain, you sit there freaking out because you grinded 20 levels in the past two days and still can't understand why your player keeps dying (you need to put him behind somebody and actually... you know... protect him...) and so you go back to your old job at the grind factory.
You can go pay somebody for the right to click on an enemy and wait for him to die while obsessively checking your DPS.... or you can play Atlantica. Your choice, I guess. I'll be over here having fun.
PS: I recognize the hypocrisy in the fact that I play Perfect World, which is like crappier WoW. But keep in mind that I haven't played it since I started playing Atlantica, and when I did play it was only because I love the idea of being a panda that carries a giant hammer and turns into a tiger. >.>
PSS: One last thing: Did you know that in most professional chess games, turns are limited by a timer? That's 16 pieces, and each one dies in one hit.
Atlantica: Forcystus on Macedon | Perfect World: ArmyPanda on Lost City
gotta agree on the graphics... what more can you ask for a 2gb game? the graphics is really good...
besides, the rush-in-a-fight theme is to see how fast your brain could react in the battle plus the strategy, that's what the time limit is for.. just imagine those high level players controling many mercs and win every PvP battle...
