Just a rant about fanbois hating on War

I wish I could read one post on this freakin forum where some WOW fanboi doesnt come in trying to hype up and defend Wowcrap as some incredible game. I mean seriously, answer me this. If WoW is such a good game and is so perfect compared to all other MMO's then why the hell are the masses ready to flee from it whenever another MMO is coming out ?? Huh?? AOC failed, but you bet your ass everyone was running to get out of WoW. War, same thing. So many people once again ready to drop Wow again. Granted these games didn't completely live up to the hype, but still, it goes to show that there is something that WoW just isn't providing anymore that has everyone ready to jump ship and head to the next MMO.  I personally think War is great.  Its far from perfect but its alot of fun to me.  And I think in time it will be an incredible game.  I think mythic is doing an awesome job of fixing everything they screwed up.  Constant patches, content, etc.  LIke i said, not perfect, but its getting there.  And as far as AoC goes, im sad that it was such a disaster because ithad ALOT of potential, and was a pretty fun game too, especially combat.  But funcome screwed up and well, now they're paying the price.  But seriously, WoW kids, give it up already. If you like WoW so much then stay on there forums....  So for those of you who are asking if you should resub to War or give it another try, I say go for it.  Its better than it was at launch and its only getting better IMO.... If not then, enjoy whatever game you do play, even if its wow....

You're quick to forget the WAR boys running rampant on the WoW boards prior to the release of WAR proclaiming the death of WoW, screaming 'waagghh' at every given opportunity and basically acting like a bunch of self righteous fanboys. The majority of WoW players are quite happy to just play their game. It's the WoW haters that incite the trolling and fanboyism with their superiority complex.

I think he messed up his numbers... "So many people" left WoW? There's what, a million max that tried out AoC? Let's assume they *all* come from WoW and even then only count the western side which is about 5 million players that's still only 20% of the players trying out another game and clearly they didn't all stay. Same with WAR ;)

WoW actually even reached a new high after WAR got released so really, if you're going to argue "WoWcrap" you really should try using some real arguments, not fiction.

    July 08,   Blizzard announces 11.7M

    Oct 08   Blizzard announces   12M

I'm trying to figure out why you think people are dying to leave WOW.  WOW gained subscribers despite the launch of AOC and Warhammer.    A game that is four years old gained 300,000 subscribers in 3 months... how many subscribers has Warhammer gained in the last 3 months?  (answer: it lost about 500,000)

The very first day the expansion was released, it sold 2.8M copies in NA/EU and it continues to be in the top 2 every week since then.  That hardly seems like people were dying to leave.

Talk all you want about how 'you' think warhammer is a better game, but please don't talk about players 'leaving' wow.   WOW has added 26 servers in NA/EU in the past month, Warhammer has closed down 35.

While I understand you are upset people rag on Warhammer, you do no service to your post as serious when you type sentences like this that are nonsensical.

WoW may not be the 'best' game by your estimation, but it is the most popular. And because it is the most popular game, that means that there are TONS playing it. Popular games are not played by the minority. Your above statement is really weird if you don't realize WoW increases its numbers all the time. Just because you don't like something, doesnt mean you can ignore statistics.

If you really think masses are ready to flee whenever another MMO comes out, then War and AoC should have more subscription numbers than they know what to do with. When in fact, the opposite case is true. Both AoC and War have done everything they can to keep what shrinking base they have from shrinking even more. Both had to DRASTICALLY eliminate, reduce, combine, or close the majority of their servers, and may still do so. If your server is busy now, it's more than likely a result of many other servers on life support so people moved their characters. Thats why the top servers seem so full now, not because there was this huge, gigantic exodus from WoTLK.

Even if Warhammer was 100% bug free, lag free, etc.. there still wouldn't be a huge market playing it. The gameplay only goes so far for most people. So if you enjoy it, kudos. But it's kind of crazy to think that if Warhammer just put in the missing classes and tweaked this/that, that all these new subscriptions would come a' runnin. The game simply isn't for everyone fun wise no matter how much Mythic works on it.

So many people once again ready to drop Wow again. Granted these games didn't completely live up to the hype, but still, it goes to show that there is something that WoW just isn't providing anymore that has everyone ready to jump ship and head to the next MMO.

Flat wrong here. Let's see if I got your point: Two MAJOR MMOs release after years of publicity hype. Both with huge IPs and big names. Both done by known gaming companies and both catering to a huge market. Both of these games release and WoW loses less than 10% (probably less) of its subscription base to these "new" games and you say "MANY" people are ready to jump ship?

What number to you is 'many'? Those two games didn't put a dent into Wow at release, and this was before anyone found out how bad one was and how boring the other one was. If you were right, there should have been a huge shift in Wow's base. Didn't happen at all. Just because you and a few folks you know leave Wow, doesn't mean that the majority are, or even WANT to.

I love how the wow fanbois are always here on the WAR forums and not playing wow.  Really shows how fun wow must be.  And before anyone says anything stupid, I play WAR.  Blizz lost my $15 a month and Mythic is now getting it.  I will never sub to wow again (havent for months and months).  cookie cutter classes, scripted dungeons, raids raids and more raids, nerfed world pvp, horrible childish community, TUESDAY PATCHES that cost you a whole day of gaming, pvp sucks, you can run right through other PCS -- LOL !! --  hey for you guys who like world of kiddie-craft, have at it, you and the 10 million asian gold farmers go knock yourselves out.  I know you feel threatened about WAR, but thats what happens when your lives revolve around world of warcraft -- if anything comes along to threaten your game (your life) you get scared and defensive.  its just a game, and WAR is better.

well, I need to go to work soon and most importantly, I play WAR and therefore it is kind of well...normal to hang out on the message boards of a game I play, to kind of you know, check in on the community and my fellow WAR players to see what new, what is interesting and going on in the game.  Does that make any sense to you ?  I play WAR, I visit WAR forums and WAR gaming sites.  Let that sink in for a minute or two.  You dont play WAR, but you dont have enough going on in the games you do supposedly enjoy to tear you away form the forums of a game you dont like.  Maybe this helps you realize how silly it looks for people like you to spend so much time here.  I am truly sorry grinding for gear in wow isnt interesting enough to tear you away from the WAR forums.  But as I said, I play WAR...This is the WAR forums...ummm, get it ?

Exactly. When I post here, it's because I'm bored some other place, that's no secret lol. I like to talk about the game even though I don't play it anymore, but I must say, I DO get smiles when your particular brand of Mythic fandom posts, usually with nonsense. Unlike the more sane members who post on the War boards, you just flag wave with few facts or interesting opinion. It is particularly funny how you tell people to 'get on with their lives' when you clearly can't cause you're too busy telling them to do the same.

Most people who post here is because they are bored or what they really want to do is unavailable. (right now, LOTRO has maintainence as we speak so..) And if this makes me or them look silly, how much MORE sillier are you for replying to stuff a 'silly' guy wrote? Twice as silly probably. Especially when you type "I stopped reading at.."

So you take time to reply to a post that you DIDN'T read, to tell the guy who wrote it you didn't read it? Yeah, you are right. Youre WAY more intelligent and far wiser in the use of your time lol.

    Waiter... check please? He's full.

How lucky that the WAR players don't flame other forums like DF, AoC and Wow then, right...

Come on, WAR players flame as much as anyone else, like the pathetic flame WAR between WAR and AoC fans a while ago. You just notice the problem on your end.

The rule is off course the same as in any forums, if you have nothing useful to say and just plan to whine, don't. This problem is everywhere on this site ('cept in the LOTRO forum oddly enough) and WAR fans are a part of the problem as anyone else.

If you guys cut it out then hopefully everyone else will too eventually (and this is not aimed particular on WAR players either but to everyone).

    This entire thread screams stupid.

Except for the first post by popinjay, that post actually made sense, everything else here makes me wonder and worry about the gene pool of society.

What I can't seem to figure out is why some people never use their brains to try and look at a larger picture, before they start the flame thrower up and torch everything and everyone in sight. Makes them seem silly at best.

You see this a lot "If you game is so great why aren't you playing it, instead of being here in the WAR forum."

Well an intelligent person before making an assumption might consider that some forum users can't play their game of choice at work. What they can do however is read forums at work. This is true for myself. As I am sure it is true of a lot of people. Also some kids do not go to school in a public capacity, and are home schooled. Giving these kids ample time to post on forums and the such while doing school work. There are many reason why we are able to type on forums as opposed to being in our game of choice at this moment in time.

Then you see this jewel "You don't play WAR so why are you here, or, You don't play WAR so go back to your kiddie (insert game here)."

Neither of these serve a purpose really, it is typically a good idea to NOT assume anything in life. You assume they do not play WAR. Do you know that as fact? No you do not. I myself played WAR, and left WAR to go back to WoW. WoW in my opinion was just the better polished game in all facets of gameplay. My opinion differs from yours, so what right? Just do not assume I know nothing about WAR or do not play it or have not ever played it, because you would be wrong.

The go back to your "kiddie" whatever game statement, usually makes the poster seem desperate. It comes across as like a last ditch effort to throw the final insult in at the last moment, like for one second anyone actually cares you said it. When I see someone make a post where they insult a game to raise theirs up. I immediately know they feel guilty about something, like deep down they know their game doesn't stand up to whatever game they are insulting, but that is all they have. So they just toss random insults at the game and players of the game like it's the last word in a fight between 5th graders.

5th grader 1 : "Yeah well, this game is statistically more popular than the one you play and you can't really argue with concrete numbers"

5th grader 2 : "Oh well, well you game is a kiddie themepark for social retards" (then 5th grader 2 proceeds to run away as fast as he can because he took his sucker punch and got the last word in)

Anyway. I only come in WAR forums because I used to play WAR and really wanted it to succeed though I know now it will not. I come in the forums to see what the players have to say about the way the patches are changing the game, and get a census on the feel of the community.

It is just every once in a while I stumble upon jewels of threads like this one... That make no sense what-so-ever.

Its funny that most of those reasons you gave for leaving WoW are many of the reasons why I left WAR. Its also amusing that all you ended up doing was moving from WoW to WoW2 and yet you feel like your playing a "great new game". Seriously WAR isnt that much of a difference from WoW but then its hardly surprising considering that Mythic clearly tried to copy it in an attempt to pull all of the WoW players into their game.......and it failed cos their game is boring as hell.

WAR is better? Well clearly not as the facts and figures prove you utterly wrong. You might personally prefer WAR and no-one can argue with your own personal opinion but WoW is a much more successful game and a LOT more people play it.......but yeah you carry on deluding yourself. Clearly in your world low populations are an indication of a superior game. It must be interesting being you. Also how on earth could a WoW fan feel threatened by WAR? Weird.

How is the level grinding in WAR going for you anyway? Enjoying those cookie cutter classes are ya? Do you feel unique? lol

A lot of fallacies in this thread.

    1.  WoW is the most popular MMO currently.  That's a fact.  This, however, does not mean it is "better than" other MMOs.  It is simply the most popular.  To deny its popularity is foolhardy, but it's just as foolish to equate that popularity with quality.  Sometimes, perhaps even often, "the masses are asses", and that's certainly the case with WoW, in my personal opinion -- but YMMV on that opinion.

    2.  The popularity of WoW is a useless yardstick on which to judge other games.  Why?  Because no other MMO before or since WoW's release has ever approached anything like WoW's numbers.  That does mean WoW is successful, for certain -- but it also means that it is such a far outlier that it can't really be the measure of the success of any other game in the genre.  Warcraft's success is more an example of the "perfect storm" of timing/branding/marketing than it is an indication of what any other product can realistically achieve in the MMO space currently.

    3.  The idea that an MMO with 500k subs (or 300k subs, or 200k subs) is a failure is based on point "2", which, again, is an erroneous standard.  The reality is that the MMO market is much larger in 2009 than it was in 2002, and now you have a ton of people in WoW (around 5m in western markets), and about another 1.5-2m scattered among a host of other games, many of which are quite successful in terms of turning a profit for their companies.  So for a game to "get as big as WoW", it would in effect have to steal half of WoW's players.  That isn't going to happen, because a lot of those players are not MMO players, they are not gamers in general, they just play WoW for social reasons, or because their spouse or kids play it, or something like that.  These kind of mass market gamers are WoW players, but many of them are not MMO players.  Some people transition out of WoW, graduate from it, if you will, and move on to become MMO players, but many -- I would say most of the active playerbase of WoW -- do not.  They're not really going to be accessible in any meaningful way by games like AoC or WAR -- these folks will be lining up to buy SC2 and D3, however.

Ultimately, the only upcoming MMO that could in theory get close to WoW's numbers would be TOR, if done well.  But it looks as if EA isn't going to use a subscription model for that game anyway, making it more like an Asian microtransaction game.  That would surely pump up the number of users (nothing like a free Star Wars game!), but if priced that way would be a case of apples and oranges with WoW.

The masses are ready to flee because they've been playing WoW for 4 years, only the problem is the last two games that peaked their interests ended up being garbage. Why play a lesser developed game that is fundamentally the same? AoC differed from WoW far more than WAR could ever dream to be, but it's faults were performance/content more so than core gameplay.

It's time to move on, we've not seen any significant change in gameplay throughout the last 4 years.

    Hi,

I am huge Fan of Dark Age of Camelot.  I really hoped that Mythic would take the awesomeness of that game change it a bit to fit the Warhammer IP and be "different" than DAoC..

Instead they made WoWHammer Online.  Its hard to defend WoWhammerCrapOnine.

Oh wait that's not what you meant exactly... dang.

People might be ready to leave WoW because they are tired of the same repetition after X amount of time?

But nobody wants to leave for an inferior (in their eyes) product?

I'm not sure how you can blame WoW for what is happening to WAR.. and I don't honestly know why you would even post this..

Its to bad that WAR wasn't more like DAoC imho.. I really wanted someplace "new" to go...  Now I have to hope that Mythic will actually bother with Origins...

You dont play WAR, but you dont have enough going on in the games you do supposedly enjoy to tear you away form the forums of a game you dont like. Maybe this helps you realize how silly it looks for people like you to spend so much time here.

He's full.

"First, why not take the day off for a change? I'm sure we can all do with a few less hamburgers made today. :)"

find a dictionary and look up the word ignorant.  Now go look in the mirror.

    -- Enjoy.

I didn't know wow had hit 12 million.

Yeah, Blizzard did a press release in October about reaching the 12M milestone.

To those that say it is 'all asia'.  That fact is that Wrath sold 2.8M copies in north American and Europe on the VERY FIRST DAY it was released and has been either #1 or #2 ever since then IN NORTH AMERICA and EUROPE.

I just don't understand how anyone can say that WOW is losing anything to Warhammer.    New all time record, massive box sales, 27 new servers added in the past month.
