Have you ever thought that we might just love the game? And because we love it that we want a great product - not crap?

We know that betas are supposed to suck. Server downs...server wipes...character wipes...patching for hours. We know all this.

Lets think about this. john Smedly is the EQ2 expert. Hes got a computer science degree, experience programming, and an intimate knowledge of the development of EQ2. He says its ready or can be by Nov 9th....does all that mean hes automatically right??  HELL NO.

Players like us have experience gauging these games too. We know when its too soon for a game to come out but they're not listening to us.

So when we keep playing a beta despite complaints...thats NOT hypocracy...its us wanting a good product and helping test it to get it there.

Stop trolling and go back to schoo.

This is what Moorgard posted in response to that:

    "The Smed post is real.

both of you guys blew this out of proportion.

I think there is a misunderstanding here...

  • WyleoneWyleone Member Posts: 11
Im not misunderstanding anything. I keep seeing the same people flaming SOE and the game time and time again. I think that if your going to post something to help the dev team thats great but flaming isnt going to help. I just came over from Linage 2 so if you want to see a crap game check that one out. I just think its funny that everyone flaming SOE for being a evil empire is playing there games. Dont like them, Go somewhere else.

    Hello All,

Been playing the beta since Friday (off and on) I had a few problems logging in at times, but that issue has been resolved. I also experienced quite a bit of lag while doing the "Orc Quest" on the Training Island.

BUT...I think I discovered a problem that increased whatever server lag there might of been.  I normally have a few programs running in the background while my comp is on. One is a Popup Killer, the other a virus scanner and we also have NetNanny loaded on the comp.  (I have step-kids that come over much of the time)

Well...after experiencing quite a bit of lag I decide to try quitting out of all those programs. Guess what...after that I had no lag at all. Now I didn't go back and do the Orc Quest (I know I should of but didn't have time to get a party together again) but even in all the other areas I could tell the game was running much more smoothly. So that perhaps might help many other who are feeling like their chugging along.

The game is Awsome IMO...I'm having a lot of fun learning the UI and just the way the game works and plays! With my ATI 9800 card I'm running at two spots down from the Absolute Best setting and it looks great. But I also have 1gig of ram and a XP 3000+ CPU (2ghz) I'm sure that is a factor as well.

I made it to the Mainland last night with my lvl 6 fighter. I'm looking for the Citizenship quest so that I can advance to lvl 7 image (I have like 189% of exp ready for after I recieve Citizenship!)

I really like the sounds in the game...I play with headphones and you can really hear a lot of small details that might get missed that way. (this is true of most games)

Anyway...I'm liking the game a lot, have grouped quite a few times, that's been fun as well as Soloing.

I'm very happy I have the game pre-ordered!

    Best of Luck to All!

ps - the only problem I do have (not much of one) is that I can not login to either the Beta Forum or the normal EQ2 forum? I can login to the "Sony Station" main page, but when I move to the forum section I'm no longer signed in...I click on the login button, it blows in a screen, I fill it out and it shoots me back to the forum page But not logged in?

Not that big of a deal...though I would like to be able to read and post on the Beta page. Anyone else had problems like this with the forums?

    "It'll be dark soon."
    "Aye...that it will."

Wyleone seems to want to defend SOE and attack people who dont just lay down and put up with their crap.

I dont want to play a game for free. You can cut that line of bull right there.

You seem to want to lump anyone who complains about the game all together. You know nothing about me or my motivations, chief.  You are a troll on a forum board...no more no less.

We come here to discuss the game, the state its in, and what we think about it. Thats the friggin point, genius.  Im a 32 year old stockbroker who doesnt powergame for hours, but happened to have an old (very old actually) EQ account so I got in.  Dont think you know me...and dont try to win an internet debate by calling me a child. You'll lose every time.

I dont expect a game to launch with zero bugs. But when SOE clearly wants to get their sub-standard game out before WoW just to make money, I have a problem with that.

But you know what? Ill suck it up and buy it anyway because I like the experience. I wont close my mouth though about what the problems are.

And you, my friend, need to find a new hobby other than defending SOE. Your fingers will get worn out.

I had the same problem and forgot how I solved it exactly but if I remember correctly you have to create separate profile for forums (apart from station profile) and have to verify your E-mail address as well...

I don't really think Wyleone is defending SOE as much as he is just countering your point. No one is ever going to be totally happy with the release of a game, PERIOD. Coming here and bitching about how horrible the release is going to be, and they are only out for money is pointless and repetitive. They are a business, a company..of course they are trying to make money. Being the Wall Street guru that you are, you should understand that.
Constructive thoughts and ideas about the release of a game is one thing, but saying you aren't going to lay down for their crap?? Give me a break. I don't care how much you are anyone else loved EQ or whatever, but if you feel you are laying down for their crap and that it is going to be that horrible, FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO PLAY...
Otherwise, start a thread for ideas and thoughts on improving the game. Send them a letter, not a flame. Trust me, they take things like that into consideration. They aren't just throwing a damn game out there with the hopes that a few thousand folks will buy it and they will take their money and run. Time and time again people complain about how horrible SOE is and that their games blow, but yet, they still have the highest number of active accounts out there. Others hav come and tried, but none have had the staying power that EQ has had, and that EQ2 will be sure to have. DAOC, Shadowbane and now L2...ya, people still play them and all, but the numbers are pale in comparison.
Quit telling people that they are board trolls...take a look in the mirror and think about the pointless bs that you're throwing out and quit wasting bandwidth.

You're right, I MIGHT be amazed, especially after reading some of these posts...

I bet a few of you would bitch and complain about the quality of the needle, wouldn't you? Amazing

I've been playing EQ2 beta for about a month now. The leaps and stride that the team has accomplished each and every week is utterly amazing to me. I've beta tested many many mmos so far and in all honesty this is THE smoothest and most complete beta I've tested. The main problem people have complained about was lag in antonica and commons....this is completely gone as of last night when they instanced the zones. I get absolutely NO lag anywhere in the game now, none! The content seems to be fully in place with much more additions coming in the next two weeks. I truly feel this game is ready for release now, even without the completion of the character customization. There are a couple very minor bugs in the game, but nothing at all serious. Things such as this one quest that, if you know what you're doing, you can spawn the named mob multiple times. This type of bug will be present for the game's entire life, so nothing major. Like I said, I feel the game is finished and more than ready for release. The things they're just adding are merely icing on the cake.

Thank you for illustrating our point for us, Potnah, my friend. It is exactly this type of attitude that we're trying to fight against here on the forums. You're predicting in your post that these types of bugs will continue to occur and that it's perfectly acceptable. You're probably the same type of person who wouldn't mind paying to beta-test a game.

From what I've heard on these forums, as well as on others, about half of the "testers" are saying that it's perfectly fine; while the other half is freaking out saying it's bug-ridden all to hell. The only logical conclusion that I can make is that either:

       a. You aren't really testing the game, and maybe you're just fiddling around on noobie isle while everyone else is out there finding tons of bugs.

       b. You're a fanboi and you just want the game to release already... but why? If you're already beta testing it, guys, why are you in such a hurry to have this game go gold?

       c. You're not really in testing and you just want to get a chance to play already.

Seriously though, why is it that the whole EQ2 community (testers included) in such a freakin' hurry for release? It feels like borderline panic, just curious.

I'm looking for some friends that I lost contact with over the years...

    EQ: Horlain (Firiona Vie)
    DAOC: Kaizur (Guinevere)

But i see the same people playing there games. Now you come in here and say the same thing about the evil empire that is SOE, Is releasing its game early to get a jump on the competition. WOW big shocker there trying to make money. Glad your not my stockbroker.image

I just want to see two thing from SOE the retail release, and a server wipe.

Oh yea and the troll thing, look bud i dont see much constructive thought comming from your posts. So dont try and act all goody goody like your out to help.

Always have to have the very "special" people on boards that try and rip someone for their opinion. Yes, I AM in beta...if ya don't believe me feel free to ask me game related questions. Am I just trying to promote the game? NO. etc etc etc...Also, to the guy that claims the game is nothing but a huge pile of buggy software...I honestly have absolutely no clue where you came up with this. No, I'm not saying it's ok to have these minor bugs in a game, but never in the history of mmo's has a game completely eliminated all minor bugs of this sort. These little bugs will be worked out, with more being found regularly and worked out regularly. This happens to ALL mmo's. I will reiterate my point...I have beta tested MANY mmo's and I honestly feel EQ2 is already in better shape than ALL of the others I've tested. It's already a hell of a lot better than some upon release(EQ1, DAOC, AC2, SWG to name a few).

I don't give two shits whether all the SOE haters and extreme critics of games play or not. It would just make the atmosphere much better for me and my friends. I just figured I'd give my honest beta experience opinion to those worried about whether this game will be ready or not.

  • ColdmeatColdmeat Member UncommonPosts: 3,408

Funny that I, and all the other people affected by it, don't seem to find not being able to access merchants, or chat for our nice new city, minor.

Some of us kooky types find the mobs falling through the geometry, yet still attacking us, rather annoying, and again, just a tad above minor

Of course, it'll get fixed this patch(again).

None of this touches on the high end content(untested)
All the new changes to classes, and races(untested)

I suppose compared to AO, AC2,or Horizons it better off, but for a 3rd gen MMOG, these things don't fly anymore.

People like you really crack me up.  If this game sucks so bad, then why do you even bother trolling the boards?  Is your life that pathetic?

<insert siven claiming to be trying to help the MMORPG community by giving us advice about games>

Well then give us some specific examples of what you thought was so bad.

  • PotnahPotnah Member Posts: 6

In response to all the merchants not being populated...There are quite a few merchants that aren't currently populated with items atm. It's nothing major as you can still find all the necessary merchants to buy what you need. Not to mention, this is something that can easily be fixed in 2 weeks. In response to the mobs falling through the world. I've only seen this happen a couple times and it seems to be in areas with varying levels of terrain height. For instance, yesterday in antonica north of NQ bridge I was fighting klicnic warriors. There are caves of them in the terrain and one time while fighting in one of the caves the mob fell through the world. All we had to do was back up a touch and he came right back. This is nothing major either as it happens rarely in only certain situations and can be remedied.

These issues are very minor and definitely far from game-breakers.
