2008: Biggest Surprises, Disappointments, and More?

2008

As John Lennon said,

So this is christmas - and what have you done?

Biggest Surprises

The Economic Downfall of Fixed-Income Wage-Earners

  1. Passage of the TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program) bill, now law
    • No oversight.
    • No accountability.
    • Hundreds of billions spent.
    • No one knows where/how/why.
    • Most of the public, wisely, opposed this fraud.
  2. Economic Bail-outs
    • AIG (biggest insurer of federal employee loans)
    • Investment Bankers (biggest contributors to both parties)
    • Credit card companies reorganizing, somehow/way, as federal banks (access to TARP fund and can borrow from fed at low rates and loan to public at higher rates)
  3. Russia's total whomping of Georgia, after Georgia attacked Russia first
  4. Bush's ability to dodge a shoe; but he cannot dodge history, facts, or his legacy

Biggest Disappoitnment

Obama's "Change" Has Been Sudden

  1. Barack Obama:  Continuation of the Bush's Economic, Tax, and Military/Foreign Policies
    • Ran on tax reform:  no tax reform.
    • Appointment of Tim Geithner to U.S. Treasury Secretary, one of 3 (in addition to Paulson and Bernanke) who created the TARP fund.
    • Additional troops to be sent to Afghanistan.
    • No timetable, at all, on Iraq withdrawal.
    • Pledged lobbyists would not be given favors, lobbyists are joining the plumb book.
  2. Chicago-Style Politics in Washington, on a Federal Level
    • Rahm Emaneul, appointment to Chief of Staff (boss of the employees), brings us an Israeli-military ferocity with a Chicago-style nastiness.
    • Arnie Duncan, appointment to Secretary of Education, since Chicago's schools are the best in the United States;  I think Chicago schools have more shootings, and student slayings, than any other school in the country.

I do not think YOU PEOPLE understand how corrupt and banana-republic Chicago and Illinois politics are in terms of fiefdoms and dynasties.  YOU WANT THAT ON A FEDERAL LEVEL?

The people in Illinois are being refused/denied the opportunity to elect their own Senator in a special election because the Democrats want an appointed Democrat.

This is democracy?  OF COURSE NOT.

You better watch Washington for the next four years.

I'd say appoint someone from South Pasadena, California to be the Secretary of Education :D

Mmmm...Lucas may have been trying to look to the Bush administration with some of the stuff in Episode three...but I think he may have pinpointed Obama better than he would have hoped for.

As far as gaming goes:  Sins of a Solar Empire...awesome game :)

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

I see all of these "change" signs and I am not aware of a single policy (not one) being changed.

We are witnessing a continuation of the Bush tax, economic, fiscal, monetary, military, and foreign policies.

    Honestly, it is scary....

    Gaming?

I would not allow my kids, if I had kids, to play MMORPGs; that is how bad I think MMORPGs are:

    • Addictive;
    • Uncreative;
    • Payment Schemes.

Encouraged by GTA IV and immersion features, log-in and have fun ability, and so much more.

http://images.newsmax.com/misc/2008_Election_Map.jpg take a look at where the blue area's are located. OK lets keep in mind that unemployment money in most states will run out May of this year.

The only thing that will save you now is a constitutional Conservative.

Conservatives want to help those that can’t help themselves. Liberals want to help those that won’t help themselves.

Perhaps its because we’ve forgotten that these people represent us. For those that have forgotten what that word means, here’s a handy definition.

To portray or depict; present the likeness of, as a picture does.

    The Three Parts of Freedom

The First Part of Freedom is Opportunity

The Second Part of Freedom is Responsibility

The Third Part of Freedom is Accountability

Our elected representatives have completely forgotten this over the past eight years. Democrats and Republicans alike have passed spending bill after spending bill, offering temporary help to their friends and supporters, while at the same time taking away everyone else’s opportunity at freedom. Rather than acknowledge the problem they’ve created, they only seek to exacerbate it by continuing to believe that they can prevent failure. This only delays the inevitable, and will hurt everyone even more. Almost everyone knows it, many acknowledge it, but it has become like a runaway train that no one seems to be able to stop.

Trade in material assumptions for spiritual facts and make permanent progress.

Man, that is so weird.  That's exactly what I was thinking when Obama was giving his victory speech.  I thought of that line from Star Wars III.  I'm with you too, I thought she said democracy, but she actually says liberty.  Almost the same thing.  I decided to find the scene on Youtube.  I guess we're not the only ones who thought that either.  Look at the description of the video.

He CAN'T change anything yet.  He's not yet President!

He has not been sworn-in yet, but he is actively involved in communications with the current President and has selected his cabinet posts.  He has not selected Director of CIA yet.

Nevertheless, the point remains, based on his cabinet choices, we will have

    • No change on tax, fiscal, monetary, military, and foreign policies, and
    • We will have Chicago-style politics --chief of Staff, President, and Sec. of Edu-- on a federal level.

I am an Obama supporter, and I am a Democrat.

I voted for change.  I do not think any change of any sort of coming - at all.

    2008 Biggest Irony?

The whole matter in Illinois does not surprise me.  Disappointing?  Sure.

The best thing of that situation is the public is more aware of the level of corruption, and political dynasties, that exist in that state.

The Democratic Party is denying the citizens of Illinois an opportunity to vote in a special election because:

    1. If Obama campaigns for a Democrat, and the Democrat loses, it might be taken as a vote of confidence in Obama; and
    2. The people of Illinois might elect a Republican.

    Siobabble,

    You are exactly right.

Obama has not taken office yet, and I am bracing for what is next.

If this is the situation before being sworn-in, I cannot wait to see what happens afterward.
