Guild Wars Dies?

There are not many hardcore players anymore. Many of the players who play now just do a few pvp matches, and then log off to play other games or do other things. I have played guild wars since their beta testing. Early in the games years, many people were doing pve missions together for the first time. Everyone was experiencing something new. But now that everyone has done PvE basically, everyone is going to PvP, which can be boring after a while. It is hard to find a group for HA, because everyone req. you to be a high rank. When you get into a low rank team, they suck very bad, and you never get any fame. If you are in a guild with 100 unranked HA players, it will be hard to find an organized team. If you want to do HA or GvG, you will have to find a small guild (8-12 people) and play with them. You will also have to be good at doing HA or GvG, which will require you to look up builds, tactics, and play with other new players. If you go into Heroes Ascent, try and find a group of people with vent that are looking for more players unranked (it is possible to find a group like this, but make take a while). Everyone is bored of PvE, and money is useless now that everyone and their family and is a perma. There is no point in doing the missions anymore, as getting titles will be what will help you in GW2. Making a new character may be fun to some, but for most people its just the same thing. In a sense it is dieing, as more of the older players are quiting the game, and more new players are joining. I do not recommend you get this game now though, as you should stick with your current game, or start a new game until GW2 comes out. It is no fun by yourself in PvE and heroes and henchmen get old fast. If you are a new player, I would not recommend even making a PvE charcter, just make a PvP character, do some RA, and unlock some skills. Once you have some skills unlocked go test out every area of PvP and see which you like best. Once you find out, go look for a guild specific to that type of PvP and play from there. It is still possible to find some fun in this game. If you are joining a guild that is specific to a certain type of PvP i'd recommend getting another game if you are a hardcore player, and play that game until your guild is ready to play a few matches.

^ I couldn't disagree more. The only way the PvE will be boring is if you're too lazy to make an effort to start a group, and jumping into PvP right from the start is very silly.

Guild Wars won't die. It will last longer than most games around. I think it will even last longer than Warhammer. Why?

Forget gameplay and this/that skill and whatever. If you lose your job, or you not able to pay a monthly sub for a MMO, you can still play Guild Wars free. (provided you have an ISP). The game is recession proof.

You see people say all the time about paying MMO's: "Yeah, I have to quit for awhile because I can't afford my sub". Now even though you/I may not think $15-20 bucks a month is a lot, it is to some folks.

And when you can play free or pay, youll pick free if you don't have any scratch.

I just wanted to repost what I said before since I saw a couple ppl discussing if dying is bad or not.

Also GW2 will not only give GW a resurgence, it could also change major mmo's. I said if GW2 could have the elements of GW1 and the some of WoW's seemless feel, that this game could harm WoW's numbers (not kill it by any means). I think GW2 has a good shot adding the seemless feel because they got the guy who did WoWs

I don't understand when people come here and say something akin to "Don't get the game, the cities are dead, there's no one to do missions with, etc.."  As I've said before, I recently (as in the last two weeks) got back into the game after several years hiatus; starting a new character the towns always had a large amount of people (except for maybe places way the heck in the middle of nowhere, but even then they were still nicely populated), and there were always people looking for groups.  Others have also mentioned joining guilds because there are a lot of guilds that do PvE stuff (which I wasn't aware of before, I thought it was mainly PvP oriented guilds).

Are there as many people playing the game as when it came out?  Certainly not, and that's to be expected.  But is the game "dead"?  Not at all!

You've been playing GW for a few years? I guess you mean you have NOT played GW for a few years. Because you don't need to PvE anymore to 'get anywhere good in PvP.

LOL...erm, Balthazar faction is there for a reason. And yes, it's as simple as doing some RA. You can do RA with the worst of builds at times...even naked if you wish.

What he said. Balthazar Faction Points have been around since some months after the game released in 2005. And as for the PvE items...If you happen to be referring to items like negative energy sets: they have been added to the PvP setup screen ages ago too.

It's still much easier to unlock skills with PvE. IMO Much better than grinding Balth faction in RA.

  • LydonLydon Member UncommonPosts: 2,938

    I'm sorry but...

paying 1K Balthazar Faction per skill in PvP > paying 1K gold per skill in PvE. Sure, elites are cheaper in PvE, but you don't have to mission off to go and capture them.

played since beta been in only two guilds in my GW life.......and right now i cant even remember my first ..

Mystic Empires me thinks   (helped get it started as the 5th member but it as one of the guilds that truly grew and i made some good friends there)

2nd would be CPT  and OMG  the best people to play with

GW is dieing and i cant wait for GW too....i played back when you made a new character in proph ...not for a title..but because it was the only place to make one and pre searing is still one of my fav. experiences of Gaming...and the graphics still shine in pre searing..

man i miss the good old days..farming was either UW or fissure  or even TROLLS!!!

    55 for life

Guild wars had a great life and yeah it will stay running forever..even after GW 2 is out but the game is dieing a slow death ..and that is alright with me

I have read through this entire thread and I have to say I’m a bit puzzled why anyone would say GW is even close to dead, Towns even the prophecies towns usually have several districts up and running, the ability to PUG is always present…heck there have been nights in the middle of the week when I couldn’t sleep… I would log onto Guild Wars and bam insta PUG….try doing that in WoW or EQ II.

Now here is why I think some folks might be saying the game may be dying…..

Last year and early this year there was a lot of negative talk about the community relation’s manager Gaile Gray, she was caught in a bit of scandal concerning her honesty with the community as well as her treatment of certain fan site admins. A lot of people gave her a hard time some used it in my opinion for a quick 15 mins of fame on the fan forums…but regardless it caused Arena to lose a lot of face and really gave wings to the often said “Arena basically ignores it’s fans and lies” complaint…. From what my D&D buddy tells me who works for Arena she was asked to resign in back in April and Regina Buenobra from Acid for Blood and X-fire was asked to replace her, Regina had a lot of credibility with the GW community and was already working with arena.net in a lesser capacity. But the whole mess basically blew over after Grays departure…games still here folks are happy pretty much and are playing while waiting for GW2.

In any event GW business model pretty much guarantees it will always have a audience you buy it once a play it forever unless you want a expansion pack, and when you understand that we probably won’t be seeing a beta test of GW2 until the second half of 2009 GW won’t be going anywhere any time soon.

The game really doesn't start until lvl 20. That was on purpose and in the overall design. Play some HM and tell me it 's not fun at lvl 20 lol.

The level cap is the very reason I love the game. They didn't design the game for half-wits who think "levels are content". They designed they game how it should be, levels being the brief introduction to your class, and the majority of the content being found at max level.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
