Hello,
This will be my non-offensive thread^^.
Windows 7 was leaked just a while ago and now there's already a torrent out, lol.
Here you go:
http://windows7center.com/windows-7-news/windows-7-build-6956-iso-torrent-released/
I will not link the torrent and I suggest you don't download it either!
This is what it looks like:
Comments
Possibly the, or close to the, beta version that was supposed to hit 'round the time of CES 2009 in early January.
As mentioned in PDC this past Fall, shortly after a closed beta release in "early 2009" there's supposed to be a public one that can be downloaded from the download center.
So, piracy or not, beta versions are supposed to be publically available leading up to a launch next fall or winter. Expect 'em on torrent sites since atm they're free for bloggers to get their hands on.
Looks like crap.
Ah damn I just got Vista. Looks very similar.
man, that looks like it's got a virus or something for sure.
the fonts are all screwed up.
I am playing EVE and it's alright... level V skills are a bit much.
You all need to learn to spell.
VIsta isn't an OS, its a virus, lol
We're all Geniuses. Most of us just don't know it.
10USD it's a re-themed Vista
Or Microsoft is making something worse than Pre-SP1 Vista.. 0.0

But it runs smoother than XP.
I've been running the latest build for awhile now. Uses1/4 or less resources than Vista, both CPU and ram. Startup is quick and painless. While there is still a "UAC" type deal, it is nowhere near as intrusive as Vista.
The only compatibility issue I've encountered so far is Daemon tools. I've even been able to hook up a legacy scanner, that Vista absolutely refused, without a hitch.
The UI you see in the pic is one of many themes that come with Windows 7. If you wonder about the thickness of the taskbar at the bottom, it is because Windows 7 has gone back to a "dock" feature, such as it had in earlier versions and OS-X continued with.
I guarantee, anyone who actually tries this "beta" ( I think it's ready for release now, and so do others), will be kicking themselves in the ass for buying Vista.
Windows 7 has put Vista in it's correct place: as ME 2.
The newest extension of Windows XP sales puts the speculative launch of Windows 7 in November 2009 right on track.
It uses Vista drivers and gadgets perfectly ( and much more effectively ) and maintains a "6" designation it its full build number ( 6 being for Vista ) so the OS is recognized by current programs. I run EQ2 on it and my FPS went up by 10+ simply due to their being no "Vista bloat" running in the background.
Current build released to reviewers is 7004, I am running build 7000 ( newest build after the one Waterlilly posted in her screen ).
it looks like vista only with larger icons.
my current computer is running on vista and i sure as hell don't like it. it came with the pc and im just too lazy to download other os'.
what i don't like about vista is the fact that it's basically less user-friendly than xp.
i liked xp better.

your Screenshot looks better then the first one. I think it was the difference in resolution. And i have a question, if you do download windows 7, does it just format over your current OS?

It can be done as an upgrade from Vista or XP, or as a fresh install.
Forget everything you've experienced with Vista when it comes to Windows 7.
Remember the time between 2000 and XP, when ME was unleashed on an unsuspecting public?
Vista is ME, between XP and Windows 7.
And I assure you, you'll find Windows 7 just as intuitive ( i.e. user friendly ), if not more so, than XP.
I see a lot of hate for Vista around here. I've had it for 5 months now and after I updated it when I got it, it haven't crashed once for me. Seriously. Still, if what Zorvan says is true then I'll buy Windows 7 when it arrives.
Vista stability improved quite a bit with SP1.
Unfortunately, no service pack would be able to remove the resource hogging inherent in the Vista code. Rewriting core programs and the kernel in a live product such as Vista is just impossible to do outside of a controlled environment, which mass distribution effectively eliminates.
Everything in 7 is a complete re-write. Kernel has been streamlined, with most parts of the OS working more as modules, rather than integrated straight into the kernel. That right there cuts a big part of the CPU and ram needed to run the programs.
For example, the system I'm running on is 3 years old with specs of:
P4 (single core) 2.6GHz (O.C.'d 2.9GHZ) with HT
AGP 7600GS with 256DDR2
2Gb PC3200 400 mHz DDR Dual Channel ram
With Vista Ultimate with all the bells and whistles on, my CPU usage at idle would hover around 8-10% and ram usage around 35%.
With Windows 7 Ultimate, with all the bells and whistles on, my CPU usage at idle is 0-1% and ram usage is at 18-20%.
Sounds like M$ is about to release a decent operating system.
Dang Zorvan, you're making me want to download this. No way I can risk my computer though

I like Vista
There, I said it.
I like its functionality, have never had a problem with it, either with playing games or getting other programs to work, and have never had any of the problems that I hear people griping about all the time...actually, the more I think about it, I don't really hear specific complaints about vista anymore, I pretty much just hear people bitching about it in general, without any real specificity.
Vista is fine, l2p, etc
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
I also like Vista. Never thought I would say that, because I was very much hooked on my nice familiar XP. But I recently upgraded my PC to 6GB of RAM, and bought another HD. Decided that if I was going to go 64 bit, I may as well go ahead and switch to Vista.
Vista Ultimate x64 is great. I love it. I still hear the lesser versions of Vista SUCK.. but Ultimate is where it's at. Nothing but love for this so far, and I've been using it for a few weeks now. Took some tweaking to get where I liked it, but it's fantastic now.
Darn good news post Waterlily. I hadn't heard about this yet.
Zorvan, thanks for the additional information. That's very useful, and it's very good to read about your experience with the hardware and resource usage. How do you / did you manage to be an official beta tester for it? I'd love to give it a whirl and help out where I can.
I'll remain open minded about it. After buying Vista at launch and going through its "launch hell", as I think of it, I've looked at Vista as ME 2 and have hoped that Win 7 would be a significant improvement. Reading someone's experiences with it (with a bit of hardware detail) is most encouraging. Now I'm super curious and wish that I could compare it myself.
To compare it with something in MMO terms think Anarchy Online's launch, only it's your computer's operating system. Vista's been painful, and I envy those who didn't have a problem with it.
Here's to looking forward to something better.
The sign-up link used to be here https://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/ , but they've taken the link down. Presumably since public beta is set for ( approximately ) January 9th. But you'll find some good info there, especially from the dev blogs.
A good place to get started with Microsoft betas is https://connect.microsoft.com
Also the MS Developer Network http://msdn.microsoft.com
MSDN is how I originally got into doing MS betas, back years ago when it was alot easier to bluff your way in.
Also, one of the things people will notice immediately is there is no e-mail program included in the OS ( no outlook or anything else ). Windows Live Onecare is being primed to handle alot of the peripheral programs, so you only add what you need to the OS to keep bloat down ( and also free MS from some of the anti-trust issues they've had ). Things such as e-mail, movie maker (DVD maker is in the OS), messenger, etc.
These can be found here: http://download.live.com/
Thanks for the links Zorvan, I'll definitely check these out.
Meh I'll keep using XP.
O_o o_O
That taskbar is way too big.
It's bigger by 10 px exactly simply to accomodate the new size of new program icons. If you don't like it, you can change it to a smaller size. Like Zorvan mentioned though its for "docking" functionality. Also good for the new preview-before-launch rollover mechanism.
