It would be nice to socialize, but it is nothing game breaking for me. As someone pointed out already, if you do not find EVE interesting this far, ambulation will not make you change your mind. Although it may be easier for newcomers from other games to get accustomed to the universe with an actual avatar to look at/bond to.
Of course much depends on the implementation of said 'walking in stations' and the mini games associated with it. Quietly I am hoping that this is the first step of landing on planets scheme as it is something I always wanted to do in EVE.

well if CCP move TQ to HDCP node the actual node can be used for ambulation any way ambulation wont add much server load

Im waiting for combat to become fun and interactive.
Combat is fun...heck EvE is fun....for those of us with a IQ above 90.
I have an IQ above 130 and I think the game is boring. So I guess it isn't IQ so much as it personal taste and interests.[/quote] mine if over 9000!! j/k
Originally posted by Jetrpg Come on there is no real strat in eve. most of the big changes battles so far have been won and lost with numbers and whoever the "server" favored. IE let xx number of ship in or didn't etc. The real other strat is just getting and holding onto players / mercs. Besides how would making the gameplay reflexive remove the stratagy? It doesn't have to. In fact most fps have more strat than eve does. However, i guess i understand people not wanted to do this , but really how many people would quit becuase of this its and obvious boost to the game , the real issue is doing it right and they would have to work on it for 1 -2 years solid to accomplish/balance. But really the basis for eve to do this is so great and obvious i can't help but dream. Every day fleet battles in eve go one fleet comes around the other corps fleets masses and the attackign fleet runs away/ logs off , whatever. Its so very cool and stratagized.
PS there is very little thought process to eves combat... infact the smallest of any mmo i have ever played. Now setting up loudouts, planning your character ahead, and playing the market take thought process and are enjoyable. However, the combat is dull and there is no thought to it other than toggle weapons/mods.
Reflex is not strategy, sadly the only FPS I have ever seen with strategy or tactics was the Operation Flashpoint series of games... besides that the maps are just to small for anything more then tricks rather then strategy.
Combat being dull in EVE all depends on how you come at it. I liken it to Chess its easy to learn difficult to master. I've been in large interceptor furballs with ships manually piloted on each side crisscrossing trying to maintian makimum transversal while minmizing it on your target and staying out of web range, ECM duels between fleets slamming ECM into as many ships to minmize damage on yours, trying to manually refire each jammer in order to max out the number of jammed targets, and to god awful boring Capital slug fests.
EVE combat can be extremely fun enjoyable and massively interactive its just a matter of do try something a bit different to get an edge or do you do the all to often standard Tank/gank/orbit combo.

As a new EvE lover, i have to say im the opposite of the complaining people in this thread. Ambuation is the ONLY thing lacking in EvE right now. Everything else is well thought out and great, the only thing i hate is not being able to "meet" up with my corp mates, we just kind of fly to each other out in space, you know? I think this expansion will bring a lot more attention to the game, i love it!
I am really looking forward to it - particularly on how you might be able to customise the rooms/bars etc - for example I wonder if you could create a chapel for you devout Amarr players?.....
For those of you arguing over strategy you are getting mixed up - there is a difference between strategy and tactics.
Strategy is the sweeping plans of the BIG long term vision of what you want to achieve.
Tactics are you local imediate implementation of those plans.
What you guys are arguing over are the combat TACTICS used in EVE not the strategy.
Your Strategy can be simple or complex usually depending on the grand scope of what you are tryinging to achieve in the long run. Influencing all the Amarr corporations with your corporation's religous dogma is a rather grand vision and will require a complex strategy - becoming the biggest battle fleet is a less complicated strategy (but might require complex tactics)
Your tactics can also be complex or simple whether it is mining, trading or combat and are the immediate plans and 'doing' that you go about .............
Of course, like the real world, simple is easier and so you are going to come across far more simple tactics and strategies than complex ones, however the beauty of EVE is it alows for both and if you really want to get very complex on either you can.
Being 'forced' to implement complex tactics/strategy is not very good in the long run for game play. The more intelligent tactics/strategy (whether complex or simple) are the ones that should be rewarded.
I think those that think EVE has no complex tactics in combat are more used to playing the games that force you to play a certain way and to some effect hold your hand - EVE is so open that it requires you to create your own complex tactics if you wish.
At the moment EVE is still in its infancy -- if it survives and grows I can see no limit in the complex strategies and tactics that will develop over the forthcoming years.......

I dont know about that.
Right now Mining along with a few other indy professions could use a total rework and Mission running is well below average for being in such a stellar game.
Features like the Wardec system in high sec need to be tweaked also.
The bounty system is also in serious need of a complete revamp.
While I agree Ambulation is something to get excited over I think eve needs to make mining fun, mission running actually an accepted feature in the game (not just a Isk farm) and they need tweaks to both high sec pvp and low sec pvp (I think Null sec pvp is fine).
Right now new players join everyday and are afraid to pvp, they need a better mining and mission system to keep these guys playing.
they fix those two features and Eve's subs will sky rocket.
PvE does need an overhaul. Most poeple would tell me that PvE is a waste because eve is PvP centered, but thats rubbish. A HUGE portion of EVE are heavy mission runners who never leave high sec, the forum scene just happens to be dominated by PvPers.
Mining should be more engaging, and missions need a full overhaul.
