So I was gonna get a new laptop because my computer is getting outdated. So anyone got any suggestions for a gaming laptop for someone on a budget, keep it in $500-1500 range.

I was thinking about trying the HP DV7 but then my friend told me it wasn't a gaming laptop.

Hard to find a laptop that plays games very good, but try this link.

I personally like HP.  If I ever purchase / recommend a PC its going to be a HP.  They last, they are built tough and put together well.  i came across this one on newegg. Give it a look, theres no picture, but the specs seem to be pretty nice. And for the money, you cant go wrong.

That is actually the same exact laptop I was going to get until I heard it wasn't really a gamer notebook. Any reason why someone would think that?

Because maybe its not labeled as a gaming notebook.  For something to be a 'gaming' computer it needs high memory, enough disc space, good graphics and a decent processor.

You dont need something to say gaming on it for it to be considered a gaming computer.

Im not that much into laptops.. But one thing you can do is find computers with a good graph card and processor. Because those aren't easy to switch. Adding more sticks of RAM and upgrading your hdd/adding another one is way easier.

    Just my two cents..

And oh, i think this guy is from poland, (figured by the display pic) So newegg is a big nono. We don't have it in Europe :<

I have the HP DV5, just bought it for $1,000 (can) and its not a bad laptop for games. Its primarily for work but I find it fine for games too.

    Intel core 2 duo P7350 2 ghz

    4 gigs or ram

    Nvidia 9600M GT

I hope you find something good

    Cheers

    haha.

I loovvvveee Newegg.com.  I live up here in New York, and I choose standard shipping all the time, and since they have a warehouse in New jersey, I get my parts either next day, or two business days.  Its great.

if you are at a retail store (best buy) best bet is usually the Gateway FX... I hate gateway but the FX is nice.  I believe the current one has a 9800 in it.

Dont buy retail though.. ever... look on newegg.  Just look for the highest possible processor clock speed and look up video cards... I dont know what laptop options currently are but nvidia 9800 is the best (reasonably priced) one that I know currently on the market... I think any better then that is super expensive and any slower then that isnt a true gaming rig...    I dont know what ATI options there might currently be for laptops.

I got this one at Best Buy for $799 (it was on clearance) . Runs Aoc on med to high settings with good frame rate. I also play Fallout 3 on high (no shadows) plays well. Over all was a great buy for the money. 1 problem was out of 5 stores in my area there were only 3 so it might be hard to get a hold of.
