Aion: Tower of Eternity subscriber status.

Syno23Syno23 Member UncommonPosts: 1,360

Does anyone know the subscriber status of Aion? How many people are subscribed to Aion right now? Over 1 million? Will it have a chance of passing WoW? Will it be the WoW killer?

Haha iduno, but they said they have over 200k concurrent online at any time. And seeing how usually maybe 1/5th population of a mmo is usually on at any time, Id saying its likely at least past the 600k mark.

Now we half to realise, before the success of WoW, games nearing the 200-400k mark was the sweet spot most mmo's aimed for. Now seeing that and considering aion has ONLY been released in Korea, this is quite a feat.

Have no Idea what will become of this mmo once it is released to the global community, It could very well pass into the millions, and maybe even get closer to wow than any other? Who knows.

But I see the chances of it getting passed 1 million mark very within range seeing how jsut within korean launch it is so big, only hell can be unleashed once they provide it to china and japan, and then eu and na.

Its gonna hit 1 million by the time China releases...I can easily see it hitting 2 million in the first year after its released globally.

Yeah, I am thinking that it is a pretty realistic estimate with this one, but what I wonder is if it will do even better than that. Since they are marketing EU and NA with full force, with maybe even better funding than korea.

Whose to say once it hits the west after the east, it may even rake up to heights of 5 million. Which is more than one can really ask for in a mmo.

Though I dont really care whether it gets that many, I could care lessa bout whether it beats WoW or not, as long as it becomes a good  success in the west so I feel safe that I can play without it being suddenly shut down 2 years later.

It is currently imo, the best chance. But those odds are a longshot. WoW population caught on like a wildfire with a mountain of dry-brush and 80mph winds with gasoline poured on it. I dont know if another mmo can be lucky enough to get that kind of  break in the mmo industry.

But seeing how Aion already has the commercial success on a comparable scale tp AOC or WAR, with ONLY being released in S-Korea, Once it hits the rest of the world, it may just do something amazing, but I am not holding my breath.

Also to all the WAR or AOC haters, or people who are all like hahah I saw that comin. By "Commercial success" I meant by sales and numbers, not the quality or appeal the game has once players start playing it.

Nice, so this game is going to be another Lineage II. In the number of subscribers. I'd say NCSoft attracts large audiences besides Tabula Rasa.

Well, in that case, I don't regret quitting Warhammer Online, if Aion is going to be bigger than tabula rasa, Age of Conan, and Warhammer Online combined.

5 million based on introduction to the West? If numbers come from anywhere it's the east, not the west. Even WoW's numbers 55%+ are from the East. Considering an Eastern Style MMO like this (graphics wise) There's no way it's going to capture more Western people than Eastern so 2 Million sounds way more reasonable than 5 :)

It will do ok but it will not reach wow status. 2 mil sounds about right.

I'm going to say between 1 and 2 million subscribers worldwide. All of NCsoft's developed MMORPG's have passed 1 million mark and I don't think Aion is going to be any different.

Right now it has over 550k people playing daily on internet cafes (meaning that in 1 day, 550k accounts were logged in on those places all over Korea), counting the people who play in their homes over there, It should be close to the million.

I assume there is no source for any kind of announcement regarding subscribers and success of the game:(

Think so. We will need to wait till the nex NCSoft quarterly report to see some numbers about the period October-December. That will include the launch and first month of Aion in Korea. It will be available around 15th February.

May be NCSoft will publish something before, but i doubt it.

Well since you visit AS, i'm sure you've seen the figures that are on Gametrics.com (at least I think that's the website).  About 550k people playing Aion in Internet Cafes, but there's no word on how many people are playing at home.  Like Fleiva said, altogther it's probably around 1million in Korea right now.

I meant the final number once sales settle  globaly. I just mentioned west like that because its the last place to be released.

No, Your system will not play Aion. It requires a graphics card to play Aion.

As long as it reached 1 million before the launch of the North American release.

Let me ask you this, so what if it is, or is not the WoW killer? Is this going to change your life forever, give you a millon dollars or a house by the beach?

LOL....the WoW killer.  Why is everyone so obsessed with that?

Anyway....I'm a big AION fan in North America.  I'm VERY MUCH looking forward to the release here, however....the only thing that is probably going to "kill WoW" is Blizzard themselves simply ending it, or making an entirely new MMO and then coaxing the present WoW player base over to it.

Apart from the simple fact, that many, many people play 2 or MORE subscription based MMOs.  I don't intend to quit any of the games I play to play AION....it will simply become a new "bill" if I like it.  I already enjoy the other games I am playing and don't intend to abandon any for another, really.  Of course....time will tell.  I can't imagine permanently leaving any of the games I'm currently invested in for another game, but I can imagine trying to squeeze another few hours a day into gaming.....afterall....that's what Bawls and coffee are FOR, am I right, or am I right?

Many people ask, who cares about the subscriber base, but there's a few reasons why you want to play an MMORPG with a high subscriber base. The first reason is because you don't want the game to shut down like Tabula Rasa, so the more members the less possiblity for it to shut down. And second of all, more updates. They'll release more updates and more expansions sooner so we won't get bored of the game.

So, Aion and Star Wars: The Old Rebublic should pass 1 million I hope

As for killing WoW, naa, I don't mind if it doesn't

You really don't need 1 million subscribers for a game to survive.

    You're totally right :D Huzzah!

Hey OP, I understand your concern but I believe the recent shutting down of Tabula is not an ordinary thing, it IS proving to be an NCsoft thing, or something that happens to small upstart companies that Sony does not rescue. AoC I don't believe is going to die. Ryzom is actually looking allright for a game that's shut down twice, zomg updates??!! WAR is doing fine, LotrO is doing awesome.

Aion so far is doing very, very well and I'm pretty sure it will be reasonably well received in NA and even better received in EU, since Europeans don't seem to have a lot of our stigmas. Maybe that's just my perception.. :)

I dunno about that.  I'm sure it's possible there won't be a WoW killer, but to me it's not beyond reason that someone tops them.  I mean if you look at the formula Blizzard used for WoW, it's not all that revolutionary.  They did things that made sense and that's all people wanted.  They didn't have to reinvent the wheel, in fact in a lot of ways they went less revolutionary than past MMORPG's (dumber mobs, simplier quests, mediocre graphics, etc).

Perhaps no company will rise to the occasion and make a better game, but looking at WoW, I see a lot of room for improvement.

Bioware/LA/EA is making Star Wars the Old Republic, this will be the better game.

It will remain subjective which is "better" and I don't think it will top WoW, if anything will top it it might be Blizzard's next MMO they've been working on (depending on what it is, if it's starcraft *that * is going to be the one imo) and even then it's going to partly be because of old age probably :)

The only thing that will kill Wow is Wow.

As far as Aion passing a million subs...of course it will.  Figure a couple hundred thousand at LEAST will be bots, farmers, etc. and so on.

Honestly, I could care less how well a game does in Asia.  What I care about is how well it does in the US and EU.
