it may sound weird but im hooked on these types of mmorpgs, so far ive tried the following: (not in particular order, some of them i like and still playing atm, some i uninstalled after 10 minutes)

ultima online

ragnarok online

mu online

lineage

wakfu

thang online

goonzu/luminary online

redstone

magic world online

trickster

nostale

lgp online/destiny online

eudemons

conquer online

wyd online

ashen empires

ran online

eternal lands

hello kitty online

i think thats almost everything 2D/2.5D iso mmos in mmorpg.com's gamelist. can someone else recommend a 2D/2.5D isometric mmorpg? and can you pls explain why you like it.

ive played other mmorpgs that are completely 3D (guildwars, 2moons/dekaron, mabinogi, perfect world etc.) but it doesnt give me that nostalgic feel.

thanks

I don't see Ultima online, or Helbreath. Those two would probably be my favorite 2D mmos..

oops i completely forgot to include UO (added)

how come ive never heard of helbreath before? (checking it out now)

    thanks

ah... helbreath... so many memories... I use to play that back in the day, during open beta. One of my older favorites... I loved how even it was... and how skill actually had affect on the game play and pvp. And the weapons had properties which was very very good(I wish more games did).

I use to love going to the pvp isle and fighting lvl 120~ mages with a lvl 60 battlemage.

Its a very good game, very underrated... not sure how it is since open beta though. Beside that, RO is definitely my top for 2d.

You probably already know of it since you've played Wakfu, but Dofus is one. Unlike Wakfu it's not an open beta product so it's a finished product with very little bugs. And altough the game is P2P it's got huge free to play area so you can test it for free if you want.

yes ive tried dofus before wakfu (its another game i forgot to list down)

about helbreath, i was kinda discouraged that its game files were leaked

as per my experience, games that have been leaked are more prone to hacks and cheats

(mu online, ragnarok, i think even uo and etc.)

another weird thing is that i like my characters or toons to move/walk/run slow (like in lineage) it feels more realistic to me.

ive heard of concerto gate, is it in isometric view?

any other suggestions are welcome. thanks

Ultima Online is a decent 2D game.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game

They already listed that in their played list.

Check out this site, Miggy, as there's a lot on there that I don't see on your list: MMOhub 2D

Wonderland looks like a pretty good 2.5D game, although I don't have any info on it.

    Try google.

thanks spinach8puff, that was a great site

If isometric is your thing, then Tibia is the only truly isometric game out there, tbh.  I played helbreath a while back, but i was uncomfortable with the speed at which you level up, it left little to no room to get aquainted with your abilities.  Granted now that ive played hundreds of mmo's i could easily adapt and overcome, but at the time it just seemed far too easy.

i was about to try tibia. but it kinda makes me want to pick up my monitor and lay it down to it side. but ive heard good things about it. so ill make it a try soon. thanks

Redstone is my unofficial favorite 2.5D game.

ive already tried redstone. imo it has a steep learning curve. i specially got into trouble finding the right npcs during my 1st few minutes of the game maybe because of the sheer size of its beginning town. but i really liked its look and feel. its very old school type. i seldom login to redstone but its still installed in my pc. thanks

    DragonRaja

Interesting gameplay. Medieval European settings with knights, wizards, thieves, swords, shields, etc. Was fun to play until some players ruined the game with their leet knowledge for playing the much earlier versions. Heck a lvl 60 thief can trash a lvl 90 wizard was too much for me. But if u really know what ur doing, u can beat players 20 lvls higher. Fun crafting albeit tedious. No built-in bots to help u mine (means u have to keep clicking) until the GMs themselves allowed players to bot using macros lol. Nation battles were an awesome aspect to it imo. PvP was excellent. Lack or no quests iirc.

    Phoenix Dynasty Online

Based on ancient Chinese history. Expect pretty Chinese architectural artwork in its cities and villages. No shields for paladins tho but kungfu-like skills for most classes except mages and priests. Great char skill combinations based on 5 different nature elements. Most players would differ in major and minor elements and quite rare to see players having the same element combos. PvP is a lil sucky coz some elements have an advantage over the other and it's very difficult to beat an opponent whose element beats urs, without using potions, which makes dueling rather strange in this game. Crafting is easy once u get the hang of it but u'll always yearn for more warehouse space. Sound is horrible tho. Quests are plentiful and players earn reputation for access to better equips and mounts by completing it. Currently playing. PM me if u wish to try it. I'll be glad to guide u thru.

i dont think mabinogi is a 2d iso mmorpg (ive also played it, the game is great)

pi story looks interesting will probably try it. (but it doesnt give me that certain nostalgic feel)

i personally dont like phoenix dynasty online (it seems to resemble magic world online too much)

ashen empires is installed in my pc. its great but the lag is killing me, sometimes when i click to a certain spot, i have to wait 3 seconds for my character to respond and move to that spot.

  • DransikFanDransikFan Member Posts: 32

Did you fully patch the game?

Correct Mabinogi is over the shoulder 3d, not 2d or 2.5d.

oh i dont know about that. im not really that technical (im the definition of a dead-end user). how would i know if my game is fully patched? thanks

Maplestory is 2D, the only reason why people don't like it is because the grind is way too much, however TONS of people still play it...

For starters, you wouldn't experience that type of lag if your game is fully patched. To patch the game, simply press on the "Patch" button when you run the launcher.

im not really into 2d sidescrollers like maplestory, although i have windslayer installed in my pc

im also not really into pirates and ships so world pirates is kinda out

terra world seems too old school for me and is not really in isometric view i think

ive tried playing ashen empires again after patching my client (thanks to DransikFan for the advice), i guess ill be sticking to it a little bit more. nice helpful community although a bit small. the game is kinda difficult too but ill have to see how far ill go with the game but right now im having fun.

  • DransikFanDransikFan Member Posts: 32

The game is difficult at first, but you'll find it to be quite easy once you get to a decent level.

From the feedback I've gotten back from new players, it does seem like Valinor does not provide enough help for new players. I suggest making a post on the official forums on how to improve the tutorials so new players will be more willing to stick around.
