Preorder without showing the game first to serious gaming magazines and reviewers.

Looking at what Stradden said earlier, representing MMORPG.com and all... it doesn't look like MMORPG.com is even putting a lot of effort in this media anti-explosion case. A shame. I think they need to fix their standards of press coverage and investigation. What happened to investigative journalism?

Why should any sort of onus be placed on this site for vetting Darkfall?  Imo, with Darkfall's history, if you either pre-order or purchase the game on release day, you deserve every ounce of hate and discontent you may receive.

It was surprising that Tasos managed to surpass Gaute's level of BS. Then again, you could say Gaute was a tad more honest than Tasos and despite all the BS, a bit more professional than Tasos.

Thats not saying much. Tasos is on the bottom rung of the professionalism ladder.

    'Protect your community' ? Lol.

Dont you understand that as long as they havent started selling preorders, that they are only wasting time and energy on what could be at most some kind of april fools joke?

Just dont be so stupid to preorder anything if you didnt play it or havent read any previews on websites you trust.

If they however start selling preorders while they still have nothing substantial to show, Ill help handing out torches and pitchforks lol. Yay for drama!

  • argos5argos5 Member UncommonPosts: 219

I just realized from our discussions here that... the people who still will preorder are the people who have something lacking in their mental capacity or naivety in life, that they can't help but put their money in and hope Tasos does not betray them.

Its akin to the desperation of being lost in life and looking for that one bright star for guidance... and giving up your whole life because that ideal is what gives you warmth. My fellow gamers, the rational few--- remain few. If we go to other gaming sites, their literary skills and maturity are shot to hell. The DF fanbois who would still preorder at this point are bordering the streamlined idiocy (for example, the gametrailers.com forums).

You know, you really should look stuff up before blowing a gasket. WISH folded to lack of funds. They had no money to continue and no new investors. Did they try to scam people? No. They simply folded. In fact, you want the story, ask Jon (Stradden). He was a WISH developer. It had nothing to do with "trolls".

    The underlying problem is Fanboism

Its not like we havent been down this road before. Those of us aware of the past can easily see this likely doesnt end well for Darkfall.

Fanboism types invest their heart, mind, hopes, desires, and ego into the game. Any threat to their preception, their reality, must be viciously defended. They wont respond to history lessons or rational logic. Their ego is tied to the success of the game. Failure means a bruised ego and a wounded pschye.

Go take a peek over at the Dark and Light forums (still trying to fathom why a forum exists for a game thats shut down). Despite the fact that the developers stole money from people who cancelled their accounts and sold a game 90% incomplete, there are still posters over there defending Dark and Light. Their egos are still infused with the game and must deny all critics despite the overwhelming evidence.

So while the folks here point out serious signs of trouble, it will continue to be ignored by those infected by the Fanboism virus.

The underlying problem is lack of information. No one outside the NDA is talking. That means opinions vs opinions. Fanbois vs trolls. It's big egos on both sides.

Not to mention how they got the whole DF community to come over and hype the game (whilst making multiple accounts as well).

Yes, they'll manage to get about 300k to go here and vote? The votes raised with 300 votes in 2 weeks. Pheew what a successfull mission they had.

Don't now who created multiple accounts for that, but they must be a vast minority compared to the alt. accounts that torment this forum part. Don't you think?

    Fair enough.

But if MMORPG.com wishes to maintain any pretense of being impatial then they have to list ANY GAME presented to them that meets the current criteria based on Developer claims.

You don't need any qualifications to be a Developer.

Any mug can create a website these days - even one with a white border.

    Photoshop a few screenies.

Write 1000 words on your plans.

And by what Stradden is saying... they can not / will not de-list any game unless it is proven to be a fraud?

    Hmmm....

I think the "Games in Development" list is about to explode?

And forget about this site having any credibility.  But hey, we are just reporting the news... right?

For our sake, after all there have been a few scams in the past few years. mmo players are growing tired of indie developers asking for pre-order money then come launch day the game is 95% unfinished.
It would sure be nice if mmorpg.com could step in here and protect the community from a possible scam here with Darkfall. At this point, all we've seen is a graniy edited video from a yr ago. There isnt much proof that this game even exists. And there are beta leaks that suggest the game is empty like Dark and Light was.
My suggestion, mmorpg.com contacts Tasos and asks for a beta key to see for themselves if the game exists and delivers on its promises. A review is due us BEFORE we start giving an unproven and unknown developer money for an MMO we dont even know works. If Tasos refuses, pull Darkfall off the mmorpg.com list and post an article warning the community of a potential scam.
If Tasos and Adventurine want to be taken seriously they will comply. If the game is just another scam where they grab all the money they can before launch day and then run for the hills, then it should be easy for mmorpg.com to find out in beta
scams only hurt the industry. If this is another D&L players are going to be very leary of ever pre-ordering again. Plus it makes other indy devs look bad. Please look into this and confirm the game exists and works or let us know otherwise

    No!

Stop being such an over-dramatic whining emo. This website doesnt need to protect the community from anything. Its a website that displays whatever information is available about various games and provides forums for its whining community to talk a lot of shit. Thats all.

All this website needs to do is provide whatever information is available and its up to each and every individual to make their own decisions. If no-one on the planet has seen, played or reviewed the game and yet an individual chooses to give that company their money anyway then it serves them right for being such a dumbass. Its not this websites responsibility to get involved. Its down to the dumbass who stupidly gave their money away and fell for the scam to sort the problem out themselves. Chances are they will just have to accept that they have been conned and hopefully they might learn from the mistake and not do it again.

Basicly if no-one has previewed Darkfall and yet you give them your money anyway then you are dick.

    1) He's hyped it himself. If the posted features are there, ship battles, etc etc are in game, then it's going to be one of the MMO's with the most features. He's delibrately marketed it to the hardcore PVP's and sandbox lovers, which there are a signifigent number of.
    2) He should know that MMORPGs are big business. The market for a game like this should be a few hundred thousand at least. If he's thinking he can get away with 20-30k to start on one or two servers? He's going to have problems if 200k try to download it on launch day.  You simply don't make a MMO for 10k people.
     3) No one has been near the game. So no-one can burst the bubble. It also allows the hype to continue. Now with the pontential pre-orders? Alarm bells
    4) Download only. At least with boxes you can control who plays. Start with 100k boxes, sell them, then if demand is there sell some more. Can't do that with download.
I'm not going near this game with a bargepole. People will buy it, some swayed by the hype, others just hoping its going to be bearable.
this could so easily be a trainwreck.

Well I think you are wrong about the highlighted part. You can control the sale of digital copies of the game and/or accounts just as easily as you can with box sales. The difference is that box sales requires the developer/publisher to invest more money into the product before seeing a return on that investment. Given the fact that Advertine is a indie gaming company its makes logical/biz sense to distribute this way.

There are reviews of the game out there. MMORPG.it is a good review and the leaked footage of the game is good as well.

Stradden why do you try to reason with these kids who have not left their parents house to venture into the real world. They have yet to learn the lessons of life where the only person to look out for yourself is you. They have yet to understand how to take the information availabe and formulate a rational descion based on that information.

With DF people see many red flags, people are acting like we are being forced to buy the darn game. You have a choice people. If you see a problem with it DONT BUY IT!!! Why is this concept so hard? Most likly relates to my first paragraph.

The main argument I see is that its opening doors for more scammers. Well possibly but if enough people who thinks its a scam dont buy it then they wont make money on the scam. For the fanboys who do buy it, hopefully they learn their lesson for the next time this mess rolls around. I look at the people who do buy it as a sacrificial pig, let them waste their money. Ill soak up all the information that comes out of them. I will have to filter through all the BS but thats not to hard with a little practice. The end result is if I see its worth a try I will have to start abit late. Wha Wha Wha big whoopdie do, its not like youll never be able to catch up.

Funny you mention this, because I noticed when reading all those "player testimonials" that they were simply posted by Tasos, under his forum name.  For all we know, he could have typed them on the fly, just as easily as copied and pasted them from actual players/testers.  To be honest, when I saw that....I wondered why the players had not posted these "testimonials" themselves, and why Tasos was posting them all himself.
What happened to, "Darkfall is more polished than most MMO's..."  Tasos said that in his first interview with Stradden.  What about the rest of the interviews painting a rosy picture?
Was the above just lies to lure players and perhaps attract investors?
What's up with the ironclad NDA?  Why only one source of leaks?  Where is the update section on there website showing a product in development?  A guess a white border is an update...  silly me.
Aventurine has lost my trust.  Sure, any MMO could get delayed, but this has been ongoing for years and most MMO's aren't shrouded in such secrecy.  Most don't have a PR guy saying how it is the best thing since bread and butter on one hand and showing NOTHING on the other.
    Uhm....yeah.
I asked for VERIFIED info (those not from Aventurine controlled sources) and they failed to deliver.  I have to wonder if NDA stands for Not Doing Anything in this case.
Now they hint at a pre-order?  Now they want my money?  Sorry, only a fool would pay money at this stage of the game.  Now, I probably WON'T play DF until it releases and a multitude of players verify that it is indeed a worthy experience.
And since MMORPG.com is featuring this game on their site, they too are playing a part, and yes, as the OP mentioned, they might just want to cover their butts to save face.

    I don't know....the white/grey/idk-what-the-fk-color-it-is border....IS pretty leet.....

It goes around the ENTIRE web page.  It seems pretty stable.  I haven't noticed any load time issues, or bugs......

However, as far as MMORPG.com getting involved....I'd say forget that.  Gamers are going to need to start using their own freaking common sense (assuming we have any) to determine if and when we will pay for a game.  Come on now....I hardly see how any of that is MMORPG.com's responsibility.
