Elikals Four Laws of MMORPGs ;)

ElikalElikal Member UncommonPosts: 7,912

I kinda have this feeling that about 99% of all posts here are superfluos, essentially always saying the same. So, to save us time and to solve the vast majority of debates with a finite answer, here comes "Elikals Four Laws of MMORPGs."

§1. WOW sucks.

§2. Every MMO will be like WOW.

§3. If a game is not yet like WOW, some change will come within 99 days which makes it like WOW.

§4. Everyone who has not the same opinion as me is a sucker.

With that the use of this entire forum has been depleted, since we now have the finite answer to all possible questions, threads or postings on this forum. Have a nice day. ;)

(Note to Admin: Pls sticky this and then lock down the forums, we have finally realized the truth about it all.)

Yep...pretty much OP.   Time to shut MMORPG.com down.   No wait...keep the Off-Topic threads area open...we need that one.

It seems that we have here an example of someone who hasn't played a very wide variety of games.  Go play Puzzle Pirates.  That's not like WoW.

Or EvE, which does its absolute best to the be the anti-WoW.  It's quite successful at it, too.

Ok, maybe EVE. It just not my type of game to gaze most of the time at black space, but thats another story altogether. -  It wasnt serious, but I am so FED UP with almost every thread leading at some point to "WoW-this-WoW-that" - I cant hear it anymore! I dont care about WOW. I dont hate WoW or love WOW or play WOW and for the love of mother and child I am SICK and TIRED hearing WOW every frigging post as if the frigging world revolves around it!

    There, happy now?

Don't you think the genre would look much better if a game like AOC was what everything got compared to?  WOW makes other games look bad, AOC would make other games look good.  If we all just said how much better Warhammer/Darkfall/EVE/LOTRO were than AOC.. everything would seem so much rosier.

I was at the Blizzard headquarters the other day, and they confirmed this. They are in the process of buying all MMORPGs in the world, and they will turn them all into WoW. Not WoW clones, not games LIKE WoW, but they will actually just shut down the servers, and replace them with WoW servers.

    It's true.

Whats scary is Blizzard probably has the resources to do that........Maybe they could pull off a microsoft and monopolize the market completely......

The OP states that "WoW sucks"

This reminds me of some UNIX system administrator friends of mine, who like to say that every computer operating system sucks.  Some just suck less than others.

My view is that WoW is the ultimate 2nd genearation MMORPG.  Blizzard came to the game late, took a look at everything out there, took from others what they thought was good, cool, and workable, then mixed it up, imposed their own lore (itself heavily derivative of other lore) on it, developed it, tested it, polished it, and presented it, and the public seemed to like it.

So much so that their success is the envy of the entire industry, and so others began to slavishly imitate it.  There is no better example of this than the NGE of SWG, which even copies the graphics in excruciating detail, in thinking that if "we look like WoW, the kids will buy our game"

Well, not so much in the case of the SWG NGE.

The thing is, as I've often said in the past, Biizzard's financial success has mesmerized the money guys, who insist that you "have to be like WoW" if you want their money to develop your game, because they, too, want swimming pools of benjamins like the Blizz guys got from WoW.

I think the current recession will result in some fallout that might, just might, enable someoen to break out of this pattern of "being like WoW" and seeking to take the MMO to the next generation.

But in the meantime, I'm off to work on my Draeni shaman.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
