free to play, but not free to equip

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

Right, but there are no "Member's Only" items. Every item drop has a chance to drop as either equippable by all or as member's only.

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

meh the game is fun for about 24hrs... then u figure out the dungeons are all pretty much the same.... and it gets boring....

i had a range user my weapon at the time was soo unbalanced i would run solo and never wipe. that was on a free account...

the member only items i just npced or dropped cause to be honest the game isnt worth the price to pay... sure its cheap and thats great but really.... for what you get... its not really worth it...

and yes its F2P but items and bank require sub... so its lamei half expected/expect some dungeons to be members only...lulz

    You just contradicted yourself.

For starters, you're trolling.  Items that have a chance of dropping with membership requirements don't drop until you're at least level 6.  Are you saying you didn't get a single piece of loot until you were at least level 6?  Inconceivable.

Secondly, you're nitpicking over semantics, which gives further credence to you trolling.  There are member and non-member versions of every item in the game.  Whether or not  a non-member can use an item depends on the color and where/how the non-member obtained it.

    • Gray, Green and Blue loot - always usable by both members and non-members
    • Yellow
      • If it drops from a monster or chest, there's a 50% chance it'll be usable by a non-member
      • Items that generate in the merchant windows (Sally, the Arms Merchants or the Amazon) have a 50% chance of being usable by a non-member
      • If you buy it from a King's Coin Vendor (the vendors in Townston or Sam in the dungeons), there's a 100% chance it'll be usable by a non-member
      • If an item drops from the Wishing Well, there's a 100% chance it'll be usable by  a non-member
    • Purple
      • If it drops from a monster or chest, there's a 25% chance it'll be usable by a non-member
      • Items that generate in the merchant windows (Sally, the Arms Merchants or the Amazon) have a 25% chance of being usable by a non-member
      • If you buy it from a King's Coin Vendor (the vendors in Townston or Sam in the dungeons), there's a 100% chance it'll be usable by a non-member
      • If an item drops from the Wishing Well, there's a 100% chance it'll be usable by  a non-member
    • Rainbow
      • If it drops from a monster or chest, there's a 5% chance it'll be usable by a non-member
      • Items that generate in the merchant windows (Sally, the Arms Merchants or the Amazon) have a 5% chance of being usable by a non-member
      • If you buy it from a King's Coin Vendor (the vendors in Townston or Sam in the dungeons), there's a 100% chance it'll be usable by a non-member
      • If an item drops from the Wishing Well, there's a 100% chance it'll be usable by  a non-member

So, it's definitely possible for a non-member to have the "best" quality loot in the game.  In fact, it's not all that uncommon.  There are quite a few level 100 non-members fully decked out in rainbow (mythic) gear.  Regardless, nobody "needs" the best gear to just play the game and have fun, at least in PVE (gear is definitely an advantage in PVP).  I play both member and non-member accounts and have just as much fun on each of them. I'm currently having a blast with a level 22 non-member mage (who's wearing lots of yellow and purple), for example.

Regardless, I really don't see what you're complaining about.  All F2P games need a way to generate revenue and Dungeon Runners has one of the most generous F2P models around.  You can play the entire game, from level 1 - 100, through all dungeons and bosses without ever having to pay a cent.  That's pretty unusual.  There are a lot fo games that limit you to specific zones ("Newbie Island", for example), don't let you advance in levels or skills, etc...  Dungeon Runners doesn't do any of that.  There are definite advantages to membership, but none that are required in order to play.

FYI - It must have been a while since Ichmen played - the bank doesn't require a sub (you just get fewer bank pages).  As for "what you get", what you get is a Diabloesque hack-n-slash, but with updated graphics and modern MMO mechanics and a snarky sense of humor.  If you like hack-n-slash and have a sense of humor/appreciate pop culture references, this is the game for you.  If not, it's probably not what you're looking for.  It's true that there isn't any real depth to DR - it is what it is and you either like it or you don't.

    /*Edit 12/31/2008*/

Yesterday (12/30/2008), I farmed a low level boss(Sissirat) over the course of a couple hours and found three mythics (rainbows).  Every one of them, much to my surprise, was usable by a non-member!  I found a "Sheer Protection" (blue crystal fighter armor), which I was able to give away to a non-member right away.  I still have the following, however, because I couldn't find somebody to give them to while I was online:

These examples actually illustrate a couple more points:

    • Even if you're a member, you can't use most of the loot that drops because all loot drops are random and most won't be appropriate to your specific build.  As such, most of the loot you find--member or not--is basically vendor fodder, therefore, non-members get pretty much the same benefit from unusable loot that members do - gold!  That being said, there are a ton of generous players in the game.  On my server, players tend to just give rainbow items away if they can't use them.  Case in point, I offered all three of these rainbows for free to any non-member who could use them.  That's how we roll...
    • Proof that the highest quality items drop for non-members, regardless of player level.

    To Rhinok..

I must confess that enough time has passed since I tried this game and made the post that I can't with a clear conscience argue about whether or not my first item looted was in fact equipable.   But I will stand by a revised statement that the first equipable item drop was members only (or worded so that I was given the impression it was members only).    I was not angered but amused by this and shared my experience here on these forums.

You must admit the loot system you have so carefully outlined is quite complex.  I don't feel any guilt for not having fully comprehended it in my first 6 lvls of play.    Thankyou for your effort in explaining it.    First impressons are subjective and I certainly wouldn't offer this forum a full review of a game I spent only 6 levels in.    However your lengthy explanation of the loot system highlights a potential hurdle for this game.   How many other players have come (jumped) to the same conclusion (as I have)?   So in that respect this "Troll" has been the impetus for you the "Fanboi" to explain this loot system and perhaps save others from abandoning the game like I did.

Perhaps you could repost your reply and get it stickied.

Thank you for a really great reply ValiumSummer. I absolutely agree with the points you make in your second paragraph.  While I am a fan of the game, I realize it has it's limitations and foibles, like any game and you've highlighted what I consider to be some of the games main problems, which are player perception and retention.
