Yes and no. Prostitution could need a legalization so that prostitutes will have somewhere to turn too without getting arrested. I think a legalization would help improve the situation for prostitutes whom are being used and forced against their will.

And Marijuana... Blah, do we need it to spread even more among children? A better thing to do I think would be to instead allow growing your own marijuana after aquiring some form of license or something (With a minimum age requirement).

    100% pure marijuana.

    Mhhhhhhhhhhh.....................

    Well legalize prostitution yes.

I relly don't see any reason why people shouldn't be able to sell their bodies........I mean pornography is legal, which is basically people who sell their bodies.

I don't understand the difference between having sex with another actor, or having sex with a member of the public.

That just doesn't make sense to me.

For drugs I would say no.

If Marijuana was legal, people wouldn't smoke it anymore and will start with another illegal substance, possibly much stronger...........that's the point of drugs.

I mean let's face it, Marijuana is already widely available as if it was legal (at least here in UK) so it wouldn't really make that much of a difference except for the fact that it would send the wrong message that it is safe to smoke (which isn't)

Well normal Marijuana is not that bad, it's the Skunk that really fucks with your brain.

Prostitution - If this was made legal it could be regulated and taxed. Laws could be passed to protect prostitutes by requiring them to take regular medical exams and requiring them to operate out of a brothel or on-call agency. This would get them off the streets and make sure that they are disease free. Also laws requiring them to use birth control and condoms could help limit the spread of STDs and unwanted pregnancies/abortions. This would take them away from some very dangerous individuals (pimps) that keep these women/men in prostitution by drug addiction, physical abuse and taking most of their income so they are always in debt to said pimps. It should be legalized on the federal level and heavily regulated and taxed as it is a victimless crime.

Marijuana use - If this was legalized it also could be regulated and taxed on many levels. Growers should be required by law to acquire a federal growing license that would have to be renewed yearly. This would regulate how much is grown, where it is grown and who it is sold to (Licensed distributors). Distributors would also be required to get a yearly license to buy from growers, package and resell to retail points so this would also be strictly controlled. Then each pack of marijuana cigarettes or bags of loose buds could be taxed on both the state and federal levels when they are bought by the end consumer. This would generate billions of dollars for local, state and the federal government each year. Marijuana use has been proven to be less harmful than either alcohol or tobacco so there is really no reason why it should be illegal.

Legalizing these two things would generate billions of dollars in untapped tax money for the federal government, create new jobs and free up a very large portion of law enforcement to go after real criminals. This could possibly have several long term effects for the US. It could help the economy recover and possibly start to pay off the huge national debt or at the very least stop it from climbing. Also the extra law enforcement could actually help to decrease crime overall. It really is a win/win scenario for everyone involved. The US really needs to get rid of these outdated Victorian ethics. They really are doing us more harm than good.

Please vote and post any debate on this issue that you feel is needed. I know that this is a touchy subject for some of the more religious people so try and keep the discussion civil and on topic.

    Yes,

Sometimes I wish I was a prostitute. I hear they make a heck of a lot of money doing what they do. And don't get me started on weed, boy oh boy if weed was legal the world would be a much happier place. There would be more smiles and laughter would fill the air with harmony and love. Let freedom ring my friends, LET FREEDOM RING!!!!

    Ichben Einberliner

yeah, weed legalized there would be more smiles and laughter, but there would be more gun fights, gangs, and murders. let freedom ring? why the hell do you think things are made illegal? to protect you. if everyone was on weed, what do you think the national IQ would be? it sucks now but it could get worse. How is technology gonna get any better if all of the scientists are smoking doobies on their lunch breaks.

    think about it buddy.

You my friend are just plain ignorant... the goverment succeeded with their use of propoganda against pot in your case.

    1. No there would not be more gun fights gangs or murders if pot were legalized. Why? because its legal people will go to cafes or or specific shops to buy it and/or smoke it not some guy on a corner selling other drugs as well, which is the real reason why there is violence, people NEED other drugs, people dont need marijuana

2.The national IQ would most likely stay the same.  Why? because its complete bullshit that weed makes you stupid... i have smoked marijuana atleast once a day for the last year (with the exception of one month because i took a tolerance break, proving that it is not addictive) and am still on the honor roll and just got inducted into the national honor society.  I have a friends from the town over which also smokes everyday and is 3rd in his class.  You are stupid for believing what others tell you.

    3.  Technology would advance at the same pace if not faster because marijuana once again does not make you stupid, it can however for some people enhance creativity.  If you think marijuana has done nothing for our society please take every cd or piece of music you own and throw it out os destroy it, you are just and ignorant person following and believing everything the goverment has told you.

Honestly i cannot stand people who believe this stuff about weed and how its oo so bad for you and will lead into other drugs.  Alcohol and ciggarets are drugs too believe it or not, both of which have been proven more dangerous to humans than marijuana by private instsitutions.  The goverment would never publish results on research they have done on marijuana stating it may be safer then alcohol and ciggarets because it would just make them look stupid for making it illegal.  Why would they spread the good information on marijuana around too?  They want to keep you from doing it so theyre only going to tell you the bad things about it.

If you really dont want to hurt your lungs but still enjoy marijuana either buy a vaporizer or bake the marijuana into little treats which can be eaten normally.

I am not flaming i am just trying to dispell myths about marijuana.

Sorry but your views on Marijuana are skewed to say the least. Alcohol is 10 times more of a gateway drug than Marijuana ever was. If it was legal it could be strictly regulated and this would keep some of the bad hybrids from getting into the hands of the common consumer. As it is now whenever you buy a bag you have no clue what your getting... it could be laced with something else that is more dangerous for all you know. Legalization would nullify at least 90% of your arguments just because it would be more strictly controlled from the growing stage all the way to the end consumer. This would make a drug that is already by far the safest recreational drug out there even safer.

I am sorry mate, but I do know what I am talking about.

I grew up in a poor estate and been in that kind of environment for a good part of my life, so I know how the brains of people who use those kind of drugs works (not just Marijuana).

If Marijuana was legal and regulated, the illegal market will come up with something stronger, and people will buy that one.

For a start if Marijuana was legalised I strongly doubt that the governement will approve the distribution of Skunk.

Now if you have smoked Marijuana and Skunk, you will understand that those 2 drugs although both under the same category have very different effects.

It's like Beer and Vodka respectively.

Heavy users will go always for the stroger stuff they can get, and what the government will sell will never be strong enough, for health reasons, therefore people will always buy from the illegal market defeating the point of legalising it.

What legalising Marijuana will do is not to bring heavy user to legality, but bring normal people who would never have the guts of smoking pot to start doing it, because now it is legal.

Apart from a fiscal point of view I don't see any other positive effect legalisation will due.

Drugs are really easy to find anyway, there is no need to stick the "safe to use" badge on them by legalising them, because they are not safe at all.

Well all I can say than is I've had almost 30 years experience around the stuff in almost every social class and although I'll agree that "Skunk" is more potent I really don't think it's any more dangerous than what is commonly referred to as "Commercial" from a health point of view. I never once said it was completely safe either... I said it was the safest of whats out there as it has no physically addictive qualities and it's impossible to overdose on it. Alcohol can't even claim those two things. I suppose by your logic there must be one hell of a black market for 200 proof alcohol or for cigarettes with twice the Nicotine... No? Marijuana would be no different.

Prositution should be legal, so should most if not all drugs, i dont smoke or drink but alcohol is much more dangerous then most illegal drugs, and the new drug of choice happens to be most prescription drugs anyway.

i voted legalize both. prostitution is legal in Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland where I have lived.

About pot, I have smoked/eaten a shitload of pot in my day, but my greatest danger these days in drinking too much. I am all for harm minimization. We don't know enough about it, so finding out about it and minimizing the harmful effects would be ideal. Proferably through regulated distribution.

It's true - I've been a cop in Amsterdam for 7 months - however, not more or less so than you could expect from any (capital) city, and marijuana certainly is not the cause. Legalised prostitution is indeed the cause of some portion of crime, however, I could just as easily say it prevents other types of crime as well, since there is now much more control over whatever prostitution there is (although, never 100%).

That woman's investigation on skunk weed is correct.  I was pretty paranoid, etc. before I ever started smoking pot anyway.  But my mental health people I see have told me in the past that my prior drug use is a contributing factor as to why I am the way I am today.  I was a heavy pot smoker for about 11 years.  Took acid and drank alot of alcohol on top of that.  It took an awful lot of willpower and help from the nicoderm patch to be able to quit smoking pot and cigarettes.  A lot of beer helped as well lol.  I eventually stopped drinking as well though.  Did not want my nephews to think all this stuff was cool by seeing me involved with it.

That said, I still voted for legalization of both vices.  They don't need to keep putting people in jail for smoking pot or having sex.  Besides they can tax it and make a boat load of money lol.  People are going to do both no matter how hard they try to stop it.

This website is a safe haven for trolls and haters. I'm done with this pathetic site.

I would just like to thank all of you that voted that both should be made legal.    You know I just don't get what the big deal is when it comes to these two things.    Alcohol is so much worse for you then mj and if properly regulated there is nothing wrong with prostitution.  If anything should be more restricted in its use it is alcohol.

Thanks for your input. I didn't think Amsterdam's crime rate was any higher than most other capitals in Europe or the US for that matter(Probably a whole lot less than the US). I wish a US police officer would pop in here and comment on this though. Most that I have spoken to wish they would legalize these two things as they see it as a huge waste of their time to bust pot heads and hookers as they really don't endanger anyone as a general rule. These are really victimless crimes and should be legalized as it would be a goldmine for the US government.

I would like to thank you all for participating as well. The debate on this has surprised me however as I came into this expecting a lot more opposition. Thank you all for staying on topic as well. I know how hard that can be here at times.

well, there are countries that legalizes both prostitution and marijuana use, and claim that such move provides more liberty to its citizen. I think this is true. And legalizing these acts will in turn, regulate these acts to protect all the parties involve.
