How many folks will buy gold when playing Darkfall?

TrollstarTrollstar Member Posts: 332

As the title said, I was curious how many people would turn to the secondary market to resolve any cash flow difficulties caused by a full loot system.

And we know Aventurine doesn't have the resources to stop the farmers. (and neither do the players, but they don't realize it yet)

Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!

No.....simply becouse I aint planning to be looted....I mean it is kinda the point to loot others. Just becouse you can be looted does not mean you have to get looted!

I will, I usually wouldn't, but let's be honest, it's not like they are going to have any mechanisms in place to stop me.

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

Not a smart, thought out question.

    You buy gold. +
You buy shiny crafted or dropped object. +
    You get Pked. +
You lose shiny crafted or dropped object. +
    -----------------------------------------
= You gave the guy who just killed you your money.

This sound sane to you? Please think before starting posts.

I just want to go out and find those botting gold farmers and show them why it wont work in df

  • AshrikAshrik Member Posts: 381

Gold/resource selling will probably be pretty rampant. Although killing the farmers will also be pretty lucrative. Assuming they don't spread the good around enough, that is.

  • FadeToBlack3FadeToBlack3 Member Posts: 89

No I wont be buying gold. If it gets to the point where that seems to be the only option, I wont be playing DF anymore.

It is a shame you can't loot the gold from someone instead of their equipment. Imagine getting to all the gold farmers before they could dump their money in the bank, hehe.

Of course you can loot their gold also, besides equipment. Its full loot and that will be the biggest impact on goldsellers.

If all you do is farm gold you will get killed and looted by the first decent PK you will run across.

insert script here :GODMODE:
emm i think they will make Kill bots first. LMAO this is 2009 not 1999.

I wont as I feel it will only ruin the game, any game for that matter, and is actually kinda lame to do. If you can't work for your money in a game then you probably don't in real life and are just another one sitting in mommy and daddies basement.

I do look forward to the fact that I can try to find said gold farmers and me and my guild can beat the dogshit out of em. These people ruin games and don't deserve to play or deserve to be griefed. I would think it would be a little harder considering I'm sure they know everyone will be gunning for them and they will probably roll in packs. And from doing nothing but playing MMO's all day long for 18 hours a day in a little room while they get whipped, they are probably much better at this shit then we are considering it IS their JOB. I'm sure they will actually be doing the ganking lol.

Well let's hope they like getting pwned. Look at it this way they will have to figure out ways to get stuff to town and in to banks, over the course of time they will get known by everyone and it order to make transfers they are going to have to carry reasonble amounts of cash. Making for some nice paydays. If they keep getting robbed they will head back to WOW and greener pastures.

No. As somebody before me stated: If you lose an item you bought with gold you bought you just gave that player your money...

    playing: darkfall
    waiting: earthrise

  • ZANGFEIZANGFEI Member Posts: 439

    LMAO:

Killing the delivery (gold) guy kills two birds with one stone. The buyer and the seller.

  • EphimeroEphimero Member Posts: 1,860

Gold sellers will probably have enough defence to kill and loot anybody who comes close.

  • pigfistpigfist Member Posts: 53

Gold farmer sells gold to some chump. Gold sellers tell his partners with another guild who he sold the gold to. Partners jump and loot the person who bought the gold, a little while later. Repeat process.

If it means I get to have more fun, then yes- absolutely.

I spend hundreds of dollars upgrading computer parts, buying miniatures, video games, going out to eat, and movies. MMORPG's are an incredibly cheap form of entertainment. Not only do they provide an innumerable number of hours of entertainment- but they do so at the incredibly dirt cheap price of $15 a month.

MMORPG gold is no different. In most games, you can buy $10 worth of gold/plat that'll be more than you'll ever need.

If i love crafting, but I hate grinding for money to up my crafting skill, I'll buy gold.

If I love PvP, but i hate grinding for money to get good gear, I'll buy gold.

If I REALLY like PvP, I might just buy gold solely to always have the most elite, hardcore items in the game- always.

The tradeoff is rarely very much. At most you pay twice what others do ($30 a month instead of $15) and have double the power, quadrouple the freetime (no grinding, no struggling, no begging) and a hundred times more fun and less hours wasted grinding.

This being a full loot game, it might be different. Also, a world of Open PvP might rise the price of gold compared to other MMO's. If it's not worth the money, I wont buy gold outside of rare occurances (Crafting or a need to have a burst of money in a harsh circumstance)

That is... if I wont get caught. If they crack down on gold sellers like mad- I will not out of fear of being banned. Otherwise, I'll probably buy gold via a trial or mule account, and then transfer it over to my main account- or find out how to not get banned.

What people fail to realize is that the game is about fun, and if I consider it worth my money, there is no reason I shouldnt buy gold. Why WORK at a game grinding with boredom for 4 hours just to play for 1 hour, when you could just pay $1 RL cash and get 8 hours worth of grinding and spend 5 hours playing the game with fun. I think people are weird who grind in MMO's for money when they could just buy gold. Some people work at jobs that pay over $20 an hour, yet refuse to pay $1 to spare themselves 3 hours of boring grinding. That makes no sense.

If I was a lawyer or businessman who made over $100 an hour, I'd do nothing BUT buy gold- maybe even powerlevel's too (costing hundreds of dollars) if it would mean I get to PLAY the game instead of WORKING to play the game. Games like DAoC, you want to get to lvl 50 ASAP so you can compete in PvP. Lvl's 1-50 are a boring grind that no one wants to do. This would make total sense to buy a PL to 50, then pay RL $$ to buy a template. If your time is worth over $100 an hour, why in hell would you spend 40+ hours a week grinding just so you can (after a week or two) PLAY the game?

I'm not saying Darkfall is like DAoC or other type games, but I am saying that PLAYING the game is what I want to do. Anything that is boring that I "must" do is a waste of my valuable time, and if I can pay literally only $1 to $3 to not waste my life doing something boring, then I will, so I can PLAY and have FUN. Because it's all about the FUN

I agree. I think there will be gold sellers and it's naive to say they'll be easy targets. Assuming they're living off their "virtual business", they have their real life income at stake, not just some items and money from a MMORPG to lose, so expect them to be way tougher opponents than your average player and walk in packs, not to mention the fact that by playing more, they also will realize faster the cookie cutter builds, possible game exploits and so on.

I think it would be kinda hard to farm gold in darkfall... I dont know if they will use bots or actuall players. If they use a bot then players will be able to easily kill them unless they have some kinda GOD mode. If its a player then me or you n friends can go and gank em. They will come up with something for sure. So if no one else does then i will form a guild that will hunt these economy hurtin basterds and kill em all every day hehehe. While makin good money off there valuable equipment. Also i will stand on a bridge and ask poeple to pay a toll or ill gank em hehehe.... with my buddies in the bushes so dont get smart you farmin basterds

easy targets, no... but they will be targets

or you could just wait in the bushes for the transaction to complete and kill the buyer. hmm

No they will probably be sitting 3 inches away from a banker in a big town... bastards

all they do is F up the in game economy with thier "your not buying the gold but the farmers time" BS. Do we punish the gold sellers or buyers... both

This, and the fact that you cant kill anyone anywhere.

Sorry to burst everyone's bubbles, but there ARE safe zones. Every town with guards that KoS anyone who attacks someone in town makes it a very, very safe zone.

In fact, it will be MORE DIFFICULT to kill and loot someone than it would be to mug someone in real life with a gun. The towns online will be more of a safe zone than real life, right outside of the police station.

I pity those who imagine this game to have an insta-kill button on their keyboard that they click, the person dies, and they full loot them before the guards (who have downsyndrome and gimped legs) can come even 100 meters from them.

In fact, everyone should just imagine themselves with the personality of Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho, the power of Goku from DBZ, with the badboy attitude of James Dean smoking, with the infiltration of Solid Snake with a nuclear bomb and jetpack rocketship to escape with- while every victim is a newb with downsyndrome in real life, downsyndrome in game, and every guard is a quadrapalegic downsyndrome npc that is so stupid they attack the victim while spamming "STOP THIEF! STOP THIEF! STOP THIEF!"

You are going to be SO powerful in Darkfall, and everyone else SO incompetant and idiotic- you will be able to ROFLSTOMP them and Full L00tz and disappear into the shadows before anyone can even ask what happened. There are no safe zones! Not for you. But you will always be safe, bc those downsyndrome guards are going to be so weak, puny, and stupid they wont be able to ever catch you or even damage you. In fact just riverdance around them and ROFLMAO they'll jsut TK each other with friendship fire!
