I played a witch hunter aswell. You mentioned that at level 8 you got a cool looking piece of gear. Well you better get use to looking at that design because all your future upgrades will look the same.
I played a human rogue in WoW. I had nearfull or full tier 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8
My witch hunter at level 8 looks cooler, more detailed and more badass than my rogue in any of those sets, including tier 5 which was my personal favourite.
Reading this post surprises me. I have never, and will never understand how people think WAR has good graphics. The character models are atrocious (especially the butt ugly faces), the animations are laughable, and the landscapes are bland. At least WoW's take on the same cartoony style is vivid and looks good together.
On the other hand graphics never make the game. WAR unfortunately failed to even be worth playing in all reality. EVERYTHING it tries to do can be done better elsewhere, primarily in WoW. Heck every piece of the UI and the scenarios are direct ripoffs of WoW.
In essence, I'm saying that WAR is a poorly made game that has dedicated followers who love it and thats fine, but overlooking its flaws is pretty stupid.

Therein lies part of the problem - these are all opinions. In my opinion, WAR is graphically and artistically better than WoW. Of course, WoW is 4 years old, and went with a low-detail, "cartoony" style to make it accessible to a very large number of people (a strength, that). But, that decision also puts it in the "acceptable" category (appealing style, poor detail), instead of the stellar. And WoW faces, hands, feet.... sheesh!
What's even more funny about this is that the Warcraft IP is a direct ripoff of GW's Warhammer Fantasy universe.
WAR's gameplay is fine with me. I enjoy the RvR a lot more than I originally thought I would. I enjoy being able to level through both PvE and PvP. I like the group focus the careers have, in that there are a lot of complementary skills and abilities in the game.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not bashing WoW here, either. I played it for quite a while and think it's a very good game. But it doesn't focus on what I really like, which is PvP, and now RvR. WoW's PvP always seemed so limited and meaningless to the game world.
WAR has flaws, or lacks some systems, as they all do. But believing that one's own opinion equates to documented, indisputable fact that others are failing to recognize is pretty stupid as well.

Opinions are always subjective. Even knowing that i'll end up writting a big post just because I feel like.
I think war is graphically better than wow, on the art part , not sure... in his cartoonish away wow is pretty well made. In terms of animations and movements (mainly combat movement) tho, wow is superior. That is one of my beffs with warhammer... but I live with that.
the point that made me post tho is the "WoW's PvP always seemed so limited and meaningless to the game world." I really disagree. I honestly think that most people mess up 2 concepts, PvP and RvR. WHile they , at first sight, look similar, the truth is they are quite different.
PvP means literally player versus player. In the essence of the concept lies the idea of singular engagement, and even when it is made in groups, the axis of it is the result of the confrontation of single units. WoW PvP might be team based, but what makes people play that aspect of the game is the desire to excel (being it "skill" or "gear" wise. It is more or less the same homeric idea that started the PK rampage in old games like UO for example.
A really strong point of that is the "wow pvp videos"... one just needs to browse it and see that a huge part of that is centered in a single individual, the author, and his engagements with 1 or multiple targets. And more than often the comments on many of those videos are " you should have shown more 1v1's" or similar.
Even arenas don't run from that. When they made , or tryed to make, arenas some kind of e-sport thing the setting had to change from 5v5 (the initial focus of blizzard) to 3v3, simple because in 5v5 the viewers would lose perception on the individual actions.
As a result the pvp in wow is actually far from meaningless to many players. Some do it for the gear, some do it for the bragging rights ( number of hk's, special titles, to make videos), and some do it just because they want to kill the other guy just because they were stronger, had more skill or power.
No matter what , the homeric ideal is present in the western civilization. that is why we remember characters like Achilles, Ulisses and less epical , someone like Manfred von Richthofen, or Magic Johnson, Pelé, maradone etc. In a strick way they were all "pvp'ers" in the mmorpg that is life.
[ ok admit, I like psicology, specially psicology related with war and intraspecific agression . It is actually interesting, for me at least, to understand the ulterior motives of individuals in games like war or wow, since they are representative of a large number of psicologial archetypes. ]
A side effect is that this kind of pvp can not have deep impact in the world. It kind of goes against the concept of the wow if the direction actions of 1 single individual can shut the game play of all the rest ( a good example is the south park episode about wow), even more when a possible large number of players (raiders, pve'rs) is not , by any game mechanism, involved in pvp unless they want.
RvR is different, It is really team centered and the winners or losers are the teams.if you are playing WAR you'll end up involved in RvR in one way or the other. In fact even your power as a characters is dependant of involvement in pvp (renown "skill points").
Still despite that, many supposed pvp'ers dislike WARHAMMER kind of pvp because they can't get the kick and questionable glory related with singular confrotation- or better they can but get pasted seconds after by 6 or 10 guys falling over like a wolfpack. And even when people arrange duels, they are interesting to the ones directly involved only and not to the bystander, like in wow.
oh and a disclaimer, i play both , wow and war. In war i'm a r40 and rr42 involved in many aspects of ORvR.I like it a lot. In wow i'm a lvl 80 with ~250000 honor kills and and almost all the titles possible (r14, galdiators etc). In war i'm a team player involved in whatever aspect of my "realm war effort". In wow I pvp for my own self enjoyment and thrill in engaging multiple opponents alone and crush them due to a mix superior min maxed gear, right spec or overpowerness of it, and experience (notice i don't use the concept skill since it has low presence in mmorpg )
If find both styles, ORvR and PvP, rewarding in different ways.
WAR is what you make of it. I read the haters saying they were bored and I just laugh at them. How can you get bored in WAR? Seriously. My BW, now that I have settled down for a spell, hit 33, rr28 last night. I have yet, in the three weeks I've settled in to actually play the character, been bored. I've run into slow moments, where the scenario's ain't popping, the ORVR isn't hot and I'm not in the mood to quest where I am at. SO I hop on my horse and explore, I log into an alt and level there...
The OP is having fun, and that's ACES, he's right the graphics ARE better then WoW, and I think they are perfect for the game. I can run WAR at about 75% max graphics with no problem. I love it, I love everything about war...
Except for the Mauraders... they suck. Damn lasso/pull ability sucks.. and WE... I get raped in T4 from time to time..,
