EVE Online: Band of Brothers Alliance Disbanded

SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

As many EVE players already know, the war between the alliances BoB and GoonSwarm entered a new chapter yesterday with the fall of BoB caused by what looks to be corporate espionage. A director at BoB was able to make off with a sizable amount of ISK and goods before disbanding the alliance and causing their sovereignty to reset in their territories. This means that the alliance has lost the hard earned rights that sovereignty grants, along with the loss of their alliance name.

The exact events that led up to the current situation, and the fallout from it, are still hazy and we'll be following this story as it develops.

That's big news. Wouldn't be surprised to read this in non-gaming news sources.

Is this game a game that new players could enjoy ? or will you be too far behind everyone?

All your skills are maxed and you are manufacturing T2 blueprints at full factory capacity? You are amazing!

A common misconception. There are many different roles to play in both combat and trading in PvP. you can really only advance so far in within the context of a given role while still gaining advantages. People who've played a long time happen to be well skilled in many different roles, but that doesn't mean as a new player you can be strong in a single role in a relatively short period of time.  The above statement is applicable if your desire is to be as good in as many different ways as someone who has been playing for years, but in a short period of time and that makes no sense.

As far as the question can a new player enjoy it, I'll tell you that EvE is different, frustrating and hard enough that you'll probably hate it, but new people do enjoy it.

it's never too late to start playing this game.

I've been playing this game since 2003.

I have a character with 78 million skill points (5 years old!!!) and an alt with 40 million.

The 78 million SP character is a PvE god.

The 40 million SP character is a scanning/probing god and trades fairly well.

BUT I cannot PvP as well as characters who are 1 year old and who have specialised (in Heavy Assault Cruisers, for example)

Also, I cannot manufacture or mine at all.

So if you specialise in PvP you could eventually beat me on a 1-to-1 fight.

However, this is hypothetical - you rarely get 1-on-1 situations. It is a complex game.

EVE is one of the few games that actually encourages new players and veterans to play together - unless you prefer to tackle in battleships(?).

The march patch is the biggest CCP has ever done for EVE as the entire company (300+ devs) are working on it - and as usual it's free. One of the things they have totally redone is the 'new player experience' which was already way above MMO standards.

If you have any logical sense, bucketloads of time and just a little flair for math, this is the only MMO worth playing - also it's the ONLY real PVP game being actively developed (no WAR is welfare PVP).

A good example. The point to keep in mind is if you come across a 78 million SP player, and he's in a given ship with a given weapon load out, only small % of his skills are actually coming into play. He'll probably still kick your butt if you're new but isn't that how it should be? What games are noobs on par with vets?

I don't consider a game with insurance and the ability to buy isk (ingame coin with real money) a real PvP environment. A real PvP environment doesn't allow you to reduce your loss with sissy mechanics.

i wouldn't be suprised if ccp would trun the clock a few houres back and putt everything back how it was simple reasons really : giving out your account details isn't allowed in anyway especially when it's hacked from what i heard witch was this case . . . and now everyone is making drama all about it because some people can't accept that bob had that space and they couldn't it take over i hear dthe sound message and they said that there were only like 60-70 peole online in bob i mean are they that weak that they can't take over bob space of 60-70 people online at a point that they hacked some bob director account and did all the stuff that was done ? thats nothing but cowardly act if you ask me and a sad loser if you have to do that too be intresting or anything .

Well in any case this was a lame and cowardly act simple as that if you ask me

Doesn't matter how far behind you start. Sure there are gods of PVP, gods of Trade, gods of being an ass. But the chances of you meeting them in the beginning are quite low (well except for that last one). Unless you are the moron who leaves High Security space in their noob ships to go look at 0.0. You'll be dead before ya know what hit ya.

Find a good corp and learn. Eve University is a great place to learn for new pilots. Before you know you be applying to The Graduates and joining them in 0.0 security space.

If you don't like dying, don't even bother.

WOW, thats quite a loss there. Is there any kind of estimate on the total loss of ISK done by that one person?

I gotta say, EVE definitely holds the title of "Best Drama in a Game". Freakin EPIC level drama.

You Clearly have "No clue" maxed out...

You DON'T need to be a uber player to play eve. Just good Social skills(IRL not a skill to train)

Complete NONSENSE.  Pick a specialty and you can be up and running in a month or two.

What does insurance have to do with anything? You PAY for insurance.

By the way, BoB has not been disbanded.  Scuttlebutt is, that the goons somehow hacked a BoB account and stole a lot of assets.

I expect there will be some goon accounts banned for this stunt.

Stay tuned for more information on this little drama.

Personally if CCP just banned every goon account the game would be a lot better.  Wosrt bunch of jerks on the server bar none.
