If Stardock took over Aventurine I would also consider it to be a good thing.  They have no mmorpg experience but are flushed with cash and are in the business of making exceptionally high quality games on very small budgets (IGN pc game of year 2008 on sub 1m budget).  They are one the few devs that concentrate almost exclusive on making sure their games provide a good gameplay experience over everything else.
I do think it's perfectly possible for Aventurine to have a decent launch on their own though, it's not 2001 anymore and they have a huge amount of other peoples erroneous launches as examples to guide them on what not to do.

Very good points.  However, I would have to say that the #1 lesson they have failed to learn was about nepatism.  You don't have the co-producer's wife/girlfriend writing a comic that happens to be hosted on Aventurine servers be the "unbiased" beta reviewer for the world to read how beta is going.  To me, the entire project loses all credibility when they pull stunts like that.  There is nothing "unbiased" about her writing reviews of the game.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

Hate to say it, but Blizzard.  They have the money and resources to make the game a top seller.  That's only if they kept the game to it's true vision, otherwise I don't think anyone on the list could pull it off successfully.  Although I agree with another poster who said Valve.

Well I guess DF will have at best not more than 500k subscribers. Prolly they won't get more than 100-150k on start but then slowly will keep growing. Considering that fantasy games are more popular than SF, DF will outgrow EVE.

I've said all thing above just to point out it doesn't have enough potential for companies like Blizzard, EA or Sony (yes Sony games are crappy but cheap, and DF will take too much money - the thing Sony hates to give up). For Turbine it'd be too expensive. Merging with CCP would be a good idea because Aventurine and CCP are the closest companies on MMO market.

    LMAO

    500k subscribers?

100-150k is smoking some seriously good stuff.

Try 5k-10k if they are lucky as hell and the game is as decent as it looks now with no major problems, which I doubt.

Blizzard, followed closely by Valve or Bioware. All 3 of these companies have shown a mastery over the process of creating a game.

If you didn't vote for Blizzard because you don't want DF to be like WoW, you may need to flip the critical thinking switch back on.

If they were to create a hardcore MMOFPS, it'd likely blow DF, MO, Earthrise, and Fallen Earth out of the water.

Ohhhh, someone mentioned CCP. Also an excellent and superb choice.

Their corporation-driven endgame model is likely more advanced, pervasive, and engaging than anything we'll see out of Aventurine for years.

Adventurine merges with Satan. If it hasn't happened already, it probably will soon if they want to release this game by the posted date. Just waiting for another 5 month delay that will be announced any day now.

CCP sounds okay for the subject, I agree.

But for companies from who I would expect something worthy, it's sad to see how after DAoC (and it's mistakes), Mythic delivered the abomination WAR is. I definitely would not bet a penny on them for example.

As for Valve, I don't see why they would even touch a MMORPG. They are good at making mostly shooters, and I don't see the reason for venturing in other genres, and MMORPGs are known for having a lot less room for mistakes if you want your game to live long.

    Vivendi.

Edit: Hah, Blizzard is a Vivendi subsidiary. I looked it up (and didn't know that). So now I don't think so.

I voted other, because a lot of the listed companies don't ever take over a game in a late stage like this. In the case of Blizzard/Bioware, they would not even take over a game if it was still in the begin stages. These companies are known for creating the full product by themselves, e.g. they don't licence game engines, but rather re-invent the wheel (in a positive way).

Now Vivendi on the other hand, could indeed do something crazy and start funding for something like Aventurine.

well for me it was a process of eliminating companies with massive failures and too much controversy which left blizzard and other/dont know/ wanted to see the scores option

as for tasos well there are 2 sides to the coin there
on 1 hand he has balls and is not mollycoddling the players
on the other hand players may feel alienated at his actions
with regards to relese dates it is true that MMO's frequently suffer delayshow ever dark fall has suffered an abnormally long development time and the more delays are slightly worrying so i had to vote don't know/care

is it too late to bring this video to the lime light again? i think its hilarious

EVE has more than 250k. DF is very close to EVE in terms of gameplay, but will be more popular because it's fantasy and fresh...
