I posted this in response to another topic then decided it would best if i made a new post all together so here we go.
My prefered Genres are Fantasy and Sci-Fi.
I would like to see someone design a game useing the best from all the best MMORPG's.
1.From EQ (yes EQ even though its messed up now)the lore development team from the begining.
2.From Horizons the one part of the crafting system.Which is the part where the players built things in the game from crafting stations,Players Houses,Guild House,Crafting Stations on players property,and in Guild Houses around the game World.
3.SWG's Craft and Gathering systems and ability to build(From System in #2)your own resource refineries.
4.WOW Graphics and character designes.
5.1-4 Design combat system from them all.
6.Here is the best thing i ever read about reguarding creature spawn sites.First it was being designed by the original people that was designing Warhammer Online,until they sold it.
Random Spawn sites within the game so nobody could camp spawns and also bosses wouldn't nessarily b at same site it was at previously,also a spawn Camp would start out weak with 2 or 3 basic mobs the longer the camp hasn't been taken out the more mobs wander in from other areas into the camp those being archers casters ect. types makeing the camp harder to remove.
7.PvP system well nobody has come up with one that actually works i did like some of the ideas that DnL had but that washed out too along with the game itself.I would not mind seeing some sorta PvP in a game like this but also make it so that the action of those Pking be accounted for in some fashion.
Guild Wars would be great too something on the lines of what F2P Game Perfect World uses where came battle for territories,where guilds who own these areas would get benifits from owning them,this would be the hardest part of the game though as theres territory ownerships would not be easy to come by so as one guild couldn't monopolize on this area.
I may have missed something be free too speak out about anything that would make the best MMORPG ever.

Since "best game ever" would entirely depend on the personal critieria of the user (you listed yours) its not really a valid question.
You could easily argue that Blizzard already did, as evidenced by their 11M+ subs.
And you could argue that Blizzard will probably make the next best game ever that tops even those numbers (if its even possible)
And I would argue from my own tastes, EVE is already that game, though certainly many would scoff at my choice.

Actually the best is LOTRO.
Eve is more like The Odyssey by Homer, something ancient, respectable and tedious that everyone must quote once in a while but never cared to read.
So true i should have been more specific,yes this is my opinion and you have yours.
Well WOW is good and all but just because it has 11M+ subs doesn't mean a thing on how good a game it is,WOW has flaws(I had too quit playing P2P games for time being but wiil be back on them later on this year).
Only reason WOW has so many subs is that everyone else is scrambleing to make something to compete with it,only there makeing mistakes by pushing there games out to quickly to get in on the action.
From what i have read WOW is loseing Subs because last expansion didn't meet players expectations,players are scrambleing looking for something new and refreshing.

no its will launch sometime around 2010 most likely.... if not maybe a closed beta.... dont really matter, I just wanna play as a lizadman.
Camelot Stuidios = golden sun mmorpg, FREE FOR ALL PvP, you can even turn your back on your friends on your own clan or element type, people from the exact starting area as you where it's like Overlord, you try to overthrow issac and companions and are rewarded with being able to limitlessly train your powers, and if you failed u'd get deleveld. Oh usefull crafting and a new vendor weapon *which is good* every 3-6 levels in the spirit of the originals. The storyline already mentions how peoples evil will cause them tot ry to conquer the world..well bwahahaha that's the goal of the game. Oh and GS wouldn't have this crappy auto lock on crap i'm so sick of, it would have horizontal/verticle slashes ala SCaliber and Zelda games and 3rd person crosshair for magic, and quick slots for magic spells but for melee..bwahaha it's just a slice and dice > : ) And there would be all the original DJINN swapping created classes. Oh of course the melees weapons would have various reaches, speeds, and you gain combos depending on your class.
This isn't mmorpg but.. 3Person Adventure where we start out as baby metroids and try to reach the omega level and devour...stuff...and eat galactic troopers for breakfast and...other beings > : ) Eventually the end boss is samus..she's super quick has 200+ misslles, phazon special, all her beams including the one that goes through walls and ..well she can do everything plus she finally gets a jet pack omfg!! Oh and don't forget metroids are quite cannabalistic when perturbed..so say you and your teammates are trapped in a chamber for X days without food..well somebody has to go for you to live right? > : )
With the above choices we have Camelot or...Retro Studios.

Sadly none of those seem to be happening, but if they did they would trump anything anybody else could ever concieve let alone create. I am metroid, hear me SQUEE!
Oh and god don't ANYONE say metroids are ripoffs of those swarming flying jellyfish from Halo, as metroid was out pre 90's K THX BYE

Personally, I'd just settle for a good game. It doesn't have to be the best. That or just listen to Kyleran.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
Best game is far too subjective. Everyone has their own ideas, desires, and wishes. Myself, I am not a PvPer so that is far from a selling point. I like a game I can play casually and enjoy myself. I like a game that has good lore and missions/quests. I want a game that I can enjoy myself, not need to put a lot of time into so I can keep up with hardcore gamers. I want something with good graphics that I can play on a decent rig. I dont require something mind blowing, just stable, fun, and worth my time.
The best game ever made is, by definition, already made. I vote for Guild Wars.

Most of your list was corrent, until you got to graphics and PvP.
Best PvP on the market as of now is either EVE or the massive 500-600 man battles of DAoC with siege engines and whatnot.
Graphics, oh please I don't want to stare at a cartoon every day. I'd rather play a dated 2000 EverQuest engine before that.

DAoC never caught my interest so i have no clue on there system.Now those are the kind of battles i would like too see exspecially over Guild owned territories.
Well the graphics genre has changed because of WOW but that can change back too.I loved EQ's Original system.
Exspecially since my first games where the MUDs i played on my Commadore 64

I'm actually going into software engineering, so unlike probably 90% of everybody here who has replied here in this thread, there's a chance I might actually DO just that - make the 'best game ever' (though there is none objectively).
I don't know who will make the best MMO ever but i'm guessing their name will begin with a B!

The "best game ever" is entirely dependent on a player's person criteria.
Personally, I feel Guild Wars 2 will suit my needs the best.
