You cant buy it..
They are still fixing bugs..
Release? That wasnt a release...
The fact is that while im excited to play, i cant overlook the fact that this game is STILL in beta. Before was alpha, this is closed beta, and when we can preorder im sure that will be open beta until its "offical" release in the USA which will be the real release, and probably what they should of waited for.
Not trolling, actually looking for peoples real thoughts/opinions..
Im just looking at the facts, this game is not released, and exspecially not released on the 25th.
Comments
so how much effort did you put to research the game.
how hard is it to click on the news tab in darkfall and read the info there.
The game was released the 26th and was a limited release. Av cannot handle more than 10k on their only server. not until they get enough money for another server means youll have to wait.
Watching Fanbois drop their soap in a prison full of desperate men.
all trolls say "not trolling" when they make a post that is clearly trolling
Voicing an opinion does not mean trolling.. im not here saying how it sucks or that they suck or anyone sucks.. im not being negative, its just a question..
If you want to go to darkfallonline.com and get your info, thats fine. But calling it a limited release doesnt hide the fact that the game isnt available and needs more time. And frankly, id like to look at a situation and think for myself rather then read and regugitate.
Any non fanboys have somewhat insightful views out there?
Uhuh, over 9000 people bought the game and are playing, and you're trying to say it didn't release...
and you back up your argument by saying "well, they're still fixing bugs". You know who else is still fixing bugs? Ever MMO that every launched, ever. WoW is still fixing bugs, I guess they never released.
Darkfall Travelogues!
i don't mean to be rude, but i'm so sick and tired of hearing all this "the game is not released, blablabla"
it depends on how you define "released". I think it's up to the company and not you to say when it's officially released or not. Even if it's a good or bad release. After all they are the ones setting the OFFICIAL statemnts regarding the game, if they say it's released, it is IMO.
9000 is a beta lol.. are u kidding?
So if the company says its a release.. that's that. Regardless of condition or facts? Im really surprised to see how many people trust in the company that is trying to sell u the product.. its our job as consumers to challenge the companies in order to get better results, or at least satisfatory ones. Serious question, are you really happy with the way it was released?
I didn't realize that the status of a game was determined by the number of peple that played it...
Darkfall Travelogues!
Your an idiot Sig if you choose to ignore the facts
NO one can buy it and play - how do you consider that a RELEASE ???
9k people finding bugs is called BETA if had have a brain !!!
i was responding to an earlier comment sig..
Well to be fair a lot of those '9000' are still sitting at a broken account screen error.
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Again, I didn't realize that a game having bugs made it a beta. I'm going to go back and tell Ensemble Studios that Age of Empires 2 from 1997 is in beta because there are bugs in it.
The game was released to as many people as the server could handle, with more copies being made as it becomes stable and those pre orders go through the billing system.
Would you rather have them open up the server to all 300,000 regular forum users (and anyone outside the forums) and watch the servers make a nice magical explosion? Most likely you would... cause you're just generic troll brand.
Oh but no, I guess it makes much more sense that the game is in beta.
Darkfall Travelogues!
i'm not saying i'm happy with th release, but i think it's up to the devs do define when it's alpha, beta and released.
if not can you then tell me the rules for a release? how many must be playing it? how many servers must be up? how many copies must be available for purchase?
just kidding, i mean not to offend anyone just a bit annoyed on th repeat button that seems to be left on on this forum.
but if you turn the question around; if the devs don't decide when it's beta or released, who does?
i'm as unhappy with this launch as any other but this whine about still being beta, not released, is so old. who cares?
Every new release is patched soon after nowadays and it's just a matter of the softwar being more or less finished/polished. the lines are blurry sometimes, and then it should be up to the devs/publishers to call the product offically beta or released or whatever. no one else can make that official statement.

Added:
Btw, I think Wii was in beta again short period after it's release, at least here in sweden since no one could buy it and it was "sold out" they claimed. strange release from Nintendo
sorry but Fans do NOT decide when the release is. ONLY Darkfall does and they said the game is released then it is released period.
Interesting Thread. The most interesting i saw today at least.
So what does distinguish a Released game from a game that hasnt Released yet?
Is it the availability of the game to the players? Is it what the company says it is?Is it the ammount of gamebreaking bugs it has?
What is really a Released game? And maybe a released game for some ammount of people is not a released game for some others? The basic differences between DF's beta and DF's release is that in beta AV chose its testers but in release it was first come first server basis. And that on beta they were wiping the server whenever they wanted.Any other differences?
Released to the rest of the world would mean that you can BUY it and play it !!!
Not a hard concept.
Sure it is up to the devs to say when they are releasing.. but many companies love to piss on your leg and tell you its raining..
my point for starting this up, is to provoke conversation about what i think is lacking most in the MMO community, and that is accountability.
We allow ourselves to be sold a less then releaseable product because we want to play it so badly but totally overlook the fact that we are enabling companies, specifically mmo companies, to release games that are just not fit for release, charging the same 50 us dollars that we pay (or more for) xbox games that are release ready. And people wonder why pc gaming is being shut out by console (which is a damn shame). Now before you go on about the differences in xbox and pc games, i already know there are many, but you dont pay monthly for xbox games either and they dont take NEARLY as many years to produce as mmos.
The point is if you released any product, not JUST xbox, and it was not a finished product, the community would simply NOT buy it. But mmos are different in the fact that we are getitng to the point were we ALLOW them to release (and i wont say unfinished, because no mmo is finished, and it shouldnt be with monthly fees) less then quality games, on the fallback that we will accept it on desperation and allowances due to bugs and fixes.
Until the community as a whole provides accountability to the companies that produce MMOs, we will forever be stuck in a shitheap of AoCs, DnLs, Vanguards and now, Darkfalls.
Once the company accepts full payment from customers for the product the product is released.
Even if that number of customers is smaller than the potential number.
Darkfall is a released game. It released on Feb 25th 2009 to a limited amount of people with more to be added as soon as they can manage. Even if it appears to be in a state that resembles a beta state, the game has been released.
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
have ever gone to an art museum and looked at a painting you've been dying to see and you got first in line to see it, then saying: "Nope, it's still in beta. Not finished."
Th artist who deliver the product is the one deciding when it's done. You mayb not be in agreement, and it may have been in need of some more work, but that's the offical status of the product.
You couldnt be MORE wrong. Fans DO decide, because we set the bar for what we will pay for and not pay for. We do not directly say when a game is released but it is OUR job to not allow them to release games that are not up to par.
Its like all those stupid self help chick lit books, about why their boyfriends dont love them and stuff. Fact is a man will treat you however you let them, and if you ask for respect he either does or doesnt accoiate with you..
right now the mmo community is a girl whos so desperate for love that shes sacrificing her dignity to the man (literal and figurative).
anologies ftw
The game is not released. It is a paid beta.
I cannot purchase the game and begin downloading it. If you think so, show me a link where I can provide a credit card, obtain the binaries to install, and begin playing the same day.
People don't seem to realize this isn't EA or Blizzard or another company with big backing that has money for 50 servers at release. Just because they aren't doing what everyone else does doesn't mean this or that. People just don't seem to realize a smaller company can't do things the same as huge ones.
Have you all of you who are complaining ever played a game at launch before or near release? By your comments I seriously doubt it.
In all honesty I hope these people complaining don't actually play the game, it'd make it a much better game for everyone else.
this is a discussion, not an argument. We are not complaining but we are questioning, dont take it so personal and be so dramatic. Discussing is what adults do sometimes
I am unable to buy a limited edition car because they are sold out.
Does this mean they never released those limited amount of cars?

How is that taking thing personally or being dramatic? How is saying why I think you're wrong not discussing it?
Is it because I made a point that different companies work different ways and you have no response?
