I played this game the last couple of days, I wanted to see it befor it maybe vanishes for ever. I have to say I liked it. Sure I can't judge endgame or lack thereof but I don't realy think this game deserved to fail... There are worse games up and running since ages. One can only hope someone picks up this game.. Would seem realy odd to me if that was it.
This game realy gave me the taste for some scifi.
Anyone have an idea why the hell they couldn't at least release the server tools?

Then join us TR vets, and you TR newbies in starting our NCSoft boycott. 95% of the people I know who played TR are cancelling all their NC subs.
NC is the new SOE

Oh no... to my recollection SOE never shut down a game, did they? With that one move NC has more than trumped anything SOE has ever done to anger the gaming community.
SWG may as well have been a shutdown lol. Apparently they are thinking about shutting down MxO now too, the last dev decided he didnt want to do it anymore.
*edit* just thought i would add, they are both equally as bad in my opinion.

i sigh for TR already damn NC.... I will not forget that.
It was visually unappealing, lots of gameplay annoyances and an assortment of bugs, and convoluted crafting and lack of an auction house make the player economy stagnant. WoW is way better than Tabula Rasa. This game was shutdown while all of the other MMORPGs never had to shutdown. Not even SOE wanted to nab it from NCSoft and fix it. Why would you want this game back?
Do you know for certain?
Well MxO was destined to fail. Monolith / Warner Entertainment screwed up so bad with this game. It's not even funny.
Plus the engine is just so aweful that people can't even properly play it when they have the latest hardware.
SOE would have to dig deep into their pockets to fix this game and that's something they never going to do.
Hence, they pulled most devs from Vanguard now too and replaced them with some interms.
So that means about 12 people will be boycotting NCSoft over the mess that was TR
I'll bet they are shivering in their boots for fear that the lost revenue will bankrupt the company
Yeah, City of Heroes/Villains was a horrid game. Guild wars was so bad it's second only to WoW in popularity, despite 15 months from the last content update, and manages to have among the highest approval ratings on this site. Lineage II is a ghost town. Who plays that game? /sarcasm.
NC Soft killed a game that didn't have 10,000 people playing it the last 6 months. The only reason they had a bump in numbers the past few months was because they gave it away. It isn't a good thing that SOE still supports crap like MxO, just because a few idiots still have computers old enough to play it. it's bad business. Don't blame NC Soft for acting like a smart business. They gave Richard Garriott a year, and he failed, and failed well. If they doubled the content, added a REAL PvP element, and released it similar to GW's format, I might go back to it.
They had a game with great potential that died, not because of NC Soft, but because of the devs and the almighty Richard Garriott ditching the game to pursue his space cadet love. If you want to do some good, then ban any game that Richard Garriott sneezes at, from here on out.
While it was not the best MMO I’ve played I did enjoyed it . Too bad NC didn’t use the GW sales model for the game to make back the money to develop the game.
GW sales model is not the answer for every game that is failing. People seem not to understand how GW was the right idea at the right time and not the end all be all of MMO sales ideas. It worked for GW and it should work for GW2, but assuming any game could survive and turn a profit off that model is folly.
with some work they could have fixed it. The core game was there with some great ideas. NC sucks at supporting flawed games. They flushed the baby out with the bath water. They should have combined servers and shrank the dev team, and then slowly fixed the game. Both EVE and DDO had really rocky starts but are more successful now then when they started.
I think TR was pretty sub par, maybe if they had a good open PvP/control point scheme set up, that could be fleshed out and revitalize the game, but that didn't exist at all.
Personally I think the loss of Auto Assault was a bigger deal. That game had great environments with amazing environmental effects and feel, as well as the fact that there are simply no other car battling games on the market. THAT is a game that should have been done with the guild wars model. (and they should have not used auto targetting, I mean, they already had cone of fire, let us aim!)
The answer's easy enough. Richard Garriott..a fter launching the game, and then going off for 6 months for space cadet traininga nd time on the ISS, he comes back and bails on the game.
Anybody notice how withiin DAYS of him quitting the company, RGTR announced it was gonna close? Ever notice how in that same time the name went from Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa to simply Tabula Rasa?
This game could have made the company millions but they wouldn't have kept it, because of one man. Sad too, as it looked like they were developing stuff for it up until closing day.. most of the new content I sadw added was added after the announcement
Much like Earth and Beyond, back in it's day was making EA money, but they scuttled it to devote more resources to Sims Online (how'd that go for you, EA?)
The difference is TR was never making money and was losing subscriptions before they announced the closing of the game. RG alone is not to blame. The entire game failed right from the start.
I'd happily join the NCSoft boycott, but since TR was the only game by them I played, I don't think I'd make much difference either way.
Evil will always win, because Good is dumb.

1. Yes it was Sci-Fi and a good Sc-Fi MMO is needed. TR was not it.
2. The combat system was better than most MMOs, but that was all it had that made it cool. The quests/missions generally sucked. I never felt like the Bane were a serious threat as an enemy force and the attacks on CPs yet major bases left alone was poorly thought out and made the war feel like a backstory and not the major story in the game it should have been.
3. The game was a failure so calling someone who thinks WOW is better a troll is silly. Almost everyone who played TR quit before the first year was finished. TR simply was not an appealing or well made game overall.
I'm thinking there might be a TR emu one day, one can only hope.

This is exactly right. NCSoft is in no way comparable to SOE. TR (and AA before it) was a cancer to this company. Although the death of a game is unfortunate, the loss of a gaming studio is a travesty. Especially when it can be prevented. Continuing to support an MMO that is way beyond saving would have bankrupted the company. One cannot expect NCSoft to expend the exhautive amounts of resources it takes to run an MMO just because a few die-hards still like the game.
For those of you who still think that NCSoft is comparable to SOE, consider this. Imagine that every single thing that you love about Tabula Rasa was completely removed. Imagine that all the things you loved about the game were then replaced with the very things that you hate most about other video games. Imagine that the game that you once loved with all of your heart has now become something so horrid and godawful that you wouldn't play it if you were paid to do so.
The truth is, those of you guys that adored this game will always have fond memories of Tabula Rasa. You may remain bitter that it wasn't able to last, but you will probably always cherish the time you had with the game. Enjoy the nostalgia because that's a really cool thing. You'll always be able to say, "I was there when..." and it give you a great feeling.
The fans of SWG cannot say this. Most of those guys have been so crushed by SOE that they can't stand to even think of their favorite game without wanting to murder someone. That's such a shame, because they should have been rewarded for their loyalty to the game. At the very least, they should be able to remember it with joy. But SOE ruined all of that.
NCSoft has done nothing of the sort.
NCSoft is a great company. When a game fails, the realize it and take action and move on. I'm a fan of a lot of their game CoX, GW, and probably Aion. Sorry the game just didn't do well that's hardly NCSofts fault having faith in it.

Hehe I was about to say Guild wars is a very fun game and a true fair way to provide people with an enjoyable MMO experience at a fair price. If you started playing Guild wars today you could get All 3 games and the expansion for around 75 dollars with Tax around here.
Anyways, TR, It was not a bad game really I think there are a lot worse games out there than TR. A big reason why I personally just did not want to play it was the name itself. It didn't grab me it did not speak to me or make me wanna say Hey cool! A name like "Lineage" "Aion" very Suddle I don't know how to explain I get this really odd epic immersive feel to it, a name like Tabula Rasa right off the bat my first impression was "corny". I saw this game when it was first going to come out in Comic con 2006, Then again in Comic con 2007 and again Comic con 2008, The last time in 2008 the NC soft booth kept telling me they weakly were coding new content and adding stuff to the game however the Tabula Rasa monitors were empty and the entire focus was around Dungeon runners and Exteel for all the people there.
I just think the biggest mistake with the game was an impression. It didn't have the umph the agressiveness to make it in this industry. It might have had the Niche appeal but the niche must have not been large enough.
I do have to say though Tabula Rasa from my short time playing it probably around a total of 5 hours It was more fun than 90% of Free 2 play Korean games, if only because you started a bit different the combat was a bit more interactive and it did provide a different feel. I think if Tabula Rasa had presented itself well from the start and had better marketing it would have done just fine. I see Tabula Rasa as the man who goes into a Hotel to get a job as a Chef, Yes this man has a culinary degree, This man is more than qualified, he has 10 years experience in the kitchen, but he shows up in a torn shirt, full grown untrimmed beared, bed hair, and seems to have a cold. Even with all of his qualifications and his experience his first impression was a very bad one and that alone is enough for him to not get the job. I see Tabula Rasa in this way, for me it was just the name, for others it might have been the concept, the style, or maybe just the overal feel.
When the best thing you can say about a game that cost 70+ million to make and cost players $15 a month is that it is better than 90% of the free to play to play Korean grinders you my friend have basicly explained why it was so bad. Nothing more is needed.
