This was the most interesting part for most of us:

"About Darkfall availability, we will give advanced notice for when more copies will be available. We need to run a few tests first to make sure things have improved and we will let you know when we officially make more copies of the game available. Availability is throttled because we need to make sure that the server population is having as good an experience as possible before we introduce more people and more servers. We hoped to be further along but have been held back by the account management system. We’ve made several optimizations since, and we’re working on a permanent solution as soon as possible.

Communication is still at a bare minimum, but this will improve steadily as things smooth out in the next few days and weeks. The forum downtime in the first 36 hours happened because of extreme load, making the forum unusable. We had to bring it down in order to be able to post status reports, and decided to keep it down until we were done fighting through our initial setbacks."

If that ain't a beta test I don't know what is.

    *sigh*

Hey, Tasos -- that's what public stress tests and open beta are for. Maybe if you'd planned your game development better, you could have done both of those things instead of being forced to release with what you had.

This is really looking to crash and burn.

It's too bad too, if they fixed up the combat to be more fun the game world is really nice. It's too bad the entire game is a clusterfuck meant for zerging guilds with shitty city building.

Honestly I think Shadowbane is better right now, than DF is.

Good god. That is what a fucking STRESS TEST is for...

Does this company know anything about anything or what?

  • xpiherxpiher Member UncommonPosts: 3,310

Wasn't it obvious that they ran out of money? And whos to say that the reason they haven't realeased more copies is becasue of server issues. From the people playing and their annoucnements there have been very very vew server issues. Sure, it possible that they are slowly stress testing their server now, or  perhaps the reason they haven't realeased more subs is because they haven't gotten the real servers or more than 1 server up an running yet.

P.S. its an indy gaming company you have to expect some of these issues.

NO this is the problem. WE SHOULD NOT have to expect these issues. Game developers used to take pride in releasing their games bug free. I can't believe what has happened to the community. It's like everyone has age of conan syndrome now.

Yeah I'm getting sick of the "indie" company excuse. If they want to play with the big boys they need to play and act like the big boys.

Is a small business owner given slack because their prices aren't as cheap as a big-box store? No they're not and that's why they are going out of business. Should we give the small business owner some slack? I know I don't. If they want my money they have to be as competitive. It's really that simple.

Edit: Damn that's sounds harsh sorry to all the small business owners out there. I believe in the American dream and I get why 80% of businesses are small businesses but I also want the best bang for my buck.

While I agree Aventurine deserves some critiicism, I've been playing MMO's (and PC games in general) for a very, very long time (since the mid 80's) and I don't recall a single bug free game, and certainly not in the MMO category.

I really do expect some issues at launch, esp when the Dev's skip the stress test phase of testing like AV did.

But they seem to be getting the issue quickly resolved and I think the road will be better for those in playing in the future.

Now, if we just could get a date for a NA launch.

    Agreed as well.

Fact of the matter is they have continually asked for patience from the community whenever they pushed back release. Tasos always said this was to have as smooth a release as possible, or to have as great a game as possible.

Well considering the number and length of push-backs that Aventurine has taken with DF we, the community, shouldn't have to deal with this.

Do they even have all of the pre-order customers' accounts active atm? I know they have credited peoples' accounts, but they have still taken their money and not delivered their product on time. I have heard that DF is still fun, however, and these setbacks don't affect me all that much. I wasn't planning on playing DF at release.

I was going to try this game in about a months time but it is seriously starting to look as if the capacity of the servers is causing some really big problems, is a months wait being too optimistic?

I know ppl are going to shout "It's a small company give them some slack" but do ppl seriously believe that an MMO offering one of the very few FFA PvP experiences is only going to be able to cope with a few thousand players and then shut up shop and stop taking more onboard for a few weeks? it's very hard to believe that this is the reality at the moment.

I've seen the positive feedback about the game and I like what I read and see on Youtube, even as a carebear who enjoys PvP I am very willing to give this game a try and see if I can move up the MMO evolutionary ladder.

I am however very disappointed along with alot of other ppl that the release is so so so small and looks to be staying that way for the immediate future, this has probably been the smallest release of an anticipated MMO for a long while, unless someone else has any examples of an MMO only allowing less than 10k players to access a game?

I would have to agree though that this does now look like a stress test exercise and not an actual proper release, a real release would have seen no limitations on who can buy the game, as it is I worry that the limits placed on orders will remain in force for quite sometime, perhaps even allowing only a few thousand in every so often to ensure things remain stable for each new server going up.

Quickly? The game launched on wednesday and it has not gone on sale yet!

The Darkfall Team needs to find a different Public Relations individual that actually understands their job and the duties that go along therein.  I have never seen worse PR for an MMO besides DnL, but there was a reason for that lol!  Don't get me wrong, they have a great product, they are just terrible at communicating with their customers.

Why I can cut AV some slack is because unlike AoC and other releases, I believe AV cares about their product. While this is no way the same release as EVE (though many of beta testers for EVE told CCP not to release the game) my guess is that this game will grow slowly.

I wish them good luck and I bet they are working hard! I will be waiting to pay for the game no matter the state of its release. Call me the fool but hell, at least I am here cause I am interested in playing this game not because I have no life and sit at my computer all day waiting to be a douche on a digital forum to ridicule a G A M E. LOL.

Played for a few days, no server issues since they came up early Saturday morning, quick downtimes for 1 hour on each day. Good communication now from the devs, regular patches.

Fun pvp to be had, not zerging, using terrain, stealth, hit and runs all requiring team work and close coordination to not be overrun, esp when we were fighting 5v10 in an alfar zone.

Can't imagine how fun it will be when we have finished the farm for our clan city and can start stockpiling armour/weapons and crafting potions/taming mounts for a real war effort and fun roaming pvp.

Already started forming rivalries with other clans, exploring a massive seamless world.

Combat is fun, constantly keeping you active and on your toes instead of stand still and spam a combo, you need to be quick to block incoming attacks/duck them and avoid friendly fire, and know when to bug out and take shelter before regrouping.

    Issues?

Yes, I'd like a few more mob spawns, a better system for players to sell stuff (vendors in swg maybe, run by players), a better and more intuitive map interface to help finding my way around and running groups a bit easier.

IMO, they could fill the current server now from its current 8k or so capacity (??) and open a new one such is the stability. I have crashed once so far, not bad for a crappy indy company is it?

In short, issues? yes, fixable? yes, fun? yes.

Why should we give an Indy company more leeway then we give a larger company?

If they're charging us the same amount (or, in this case, more) as a AAA, Publisher funded and backed, company, then they deserved to be judged by the same merrits.

To say "don't blame them, they're indy" is completely asinine.

When their CC system goes haywire and charges 2 or 3x, should we continue saying "don't blame them, they're indy!"?

When they fail to deliver on most any promise, should we continue to claim it's because they're Indy?

You're delusional... as delusional as Aventurine was to think they could undertake something as large as a MMO with no experience.

    Translation :

We don't really like talking to the fanbase. We might realise something is not right with our Game

We failed predicting demand for the game and the methods of communcation duing launch so we have shut them off knowing full well popular MMO sites can smell our shit. We will however be taking your CC details.

We had some intial setbacks... i.e. no one wanted to publish our game and we don't have a fucking clue what we are doing so you guys will be paying to do a stress test. We don't know how many to let in the game but our bank account is hungry.

This is what happens when you have devs who are too cocky to understand industry standards were developed to help these very kind of guys get along in the business.

Still, looking to getting to try it out after all the fanbois have beta tested it for us, I suppose when the 'hardcore' have left it will be better

Playing polished, lag free, feature complete games is carebear. Whining about a game you hate but still play is hardcore man!

Everytime people say this is a paid beta, fanbois always deny it.

but now the official announcement clearly proved it.
