It looks interesting, i've signed up for beta. Never have played the original though. How it was like?

FOM had relatively small community, and after devs brought monthly subscription fees, the game died.
It wasn't good enough for 15$ (or10?) per month.

Yes he does know what he's saying,

FOM always had a small community, and after FOM became retail, the community falled pretty quick. In the end there were only around 14-22 usual players (i was one).

I don't see FOM surviving another run, not if they don't bring most feactures from the open beta for the re-release of the game.

You guys are failing to mention that the game will have free accounts and that OJOM (one of the reaons many say the game failed) is out of the picture. The changes seem like they can work.

Put it plainly, FOM is a game like no other, not becuase of the game but because of the community. Politics will play alot in your game play and you will make friends and enemies.

OJOM wasn't the biggest problem, Duplex was, they simply stoped carring about us, no updates, no bug fixes, no nothing, we had less on retail that we had on open beta. OJOM wasn't the one who had the job to fix the bugs, exploits and keep updates, that was Duplex job.

But.. i have to admit evan that didn't make me stop playing FOM :P basically becouse of what you also said, FOM is a game like no other ^^

I just hope that this time, we at least have some updates every now and then, if not.. i guess i can go for  for some few more years of senseless play :P

Exactly. Face of Mankind is like smoking, even when you know you won't live beyond 70, you'll have lung cancer, breathing problems and heart disease... you still love it and love to smoke. It's an addiction that is part of you, it's an addiction that will kill you.

And to the guys who obviously didn't stick around FOM for any considerable time, retail was craploads of fun no matter what anybody says.

Why Duplex (the only coder) didn't release any updates in retail. wasn't it because OJOM made him rewrite the server code twice cause ojom wanted to shrink the serverfarm?

Loved the open beta and didn't stick around after because the game was not worth a subscription price at the time.  The game is great and well worth experiencing and hope it does well this time around.  However I will not sub and do not believe it will last.  Looking at the current official forums they are full of immature brats and who wants to game with them?

Free accounts meaning they will have cash shops later?

  • aruthamarutham Member Posts: 63

No i believe its free accounts with some restrictions.

But not time restriction. we waiting for the last update, then closed beta to start so we can find out :)

    Free !? I love it.

The main reason FOM failed when they gave it a monthly fee is because that wasn't wall they did to it.   They also took on the philosophy that anything (and I do mean anything) that is causing a problem, however small it may be, should be removed completely until fixed  (however many months fixing will take) or in some cases simply removed completely and never thought of again

Example:  players un able to see weapon while in first person view

Solution: remove First Person view from our mmoFPS

Example: dropping items one some areas of the map results in sinking into the map

Solution: players are un able to drop item without destroying it,  now roleplayers cannot roleplay eating lunch with a meal on a table before them.

combatants cannot create piles of equipment to run to for reload and armor replacements

players can nolonger decorate their apartment's sheves or sort their belongings from room to room, players must now store their items in an equipemnt safe

Developers of FoM, if you do this again, you DESERVE to have your game fail, as with anyone else who does anything by the philosophy of "if it doesn't work, remove it"

Regardless of it's past problems the devs are taking huge leaps in the right direction, and offering free accounts with optional subs.  This is one amazing system and I hope that the changes and some decent marketing by the community will keep this little gem active for a long time.

No. There will be free accounts and P2P accounts with more options. We don't know what these options are atm.

To all you naye sayers you may wish to reconsider what you have been saying.  The development team now has more members, and true to their word, Duplex has been giving us updates regularly when he said he would.

On a greater plus side the CB starts 20th of Feburary, and more and more people are joining the FoM forums, we are going to have alot of people this time around.

I have played decades of mmos and FOM is one of the best ever and could be the very best.  If FOM looks intersting to you and you want some heartpounding action then check it out.  You will not be desapointed.
