Beta starts in June

Well it's one of those "a friend saw it on this site" rumors , but based on how fast BioWare first deleted it then locked the threads related to it, and made an official thread stating that it's false, I think it's true now. I bet the guy just read it in someones "best guess"  thread, though it was real, but just happened to get it right by mistake. strange how these things work eh? Where's my tinfoil hat now?

Rumor Locked

after thought Locked

Sean's statement

Reminds me of the time they threatened to ban me for saying Scoundrel and Scout classes were confirmed classes for TOR as a joke. My advice is make as many off the wall threads as you can and see how fast they get locked to gauge what's true or not. :-P

just kidding, don't do that.

Yeah we speculate on release dates including when amazon.com posted a Jan 2010 launch and all kinds of other things without getting locked and yet this rates a lock and a dismissive statement.  Makes me think there is some validity to this.  Still doesn't mean we'll see it this year, but early next year still looks good.

Yea I would have to agree, release will probably be some time next year, but heres to hoping lol. I mean if they have beta this June it only means that they where furather ahead in development than they lead us to be which for fans is a good thing.

Work started in nov. 2005. So they have been at it for some time. Usuall development time for a MMO is 3-5 years. So in fact they should be on the home stretch. But this MMO is gonna be huge, filled with a massive amount of content and polished. After all its Bioware.

I still stand by my guess on a May 2010 launch. So Beta period for a massive game like this would be like 10-12 months.......

Ye dont get me wrong, if a finished game came out early yhen great! i just hope they stick to thier usual high standards and release something to make us all say "wow" i would rather wait and get something great than them release something half finished.

You know what! ...i think i'm just suffering from DF vision haha! it is boiware after all and they dont usually let anyone down.

I think beta will be next year, from the game video and screens Ive seen its not polished enough and they is a lot of content to add, remember swg being released before finish, i don't think lucas will want to repeat that and there is a long way to go, i think bioware will have a sense of urgency thoe and get it out before the world of starcraft announcement ;)

I'm not quite as optimistic as you are about "it's Bioware, it'll be polished at release" but my hope is that MMO developers have learned their lesson with this last rash of releases (see AoC, WAR, et. al.) and will be patient during the beta phase.  The problem is that many people start freaking out when a game they want to play hits Beta.  It's like folks lose their minds or something.  If I'm making guesses at a launch date I'm saying November 2010, with beta starting some time in May or June.

Keep in mind they are using the hero engine which makes developement of a mmo much faster especialy when they can implament or fix things in real time while the game is still active.

But i hope there will be stuff like in "SWG" like real time battle and ships and etc.

Rumors are fun but I never give them much weight.   The game will come out when it's ready (at least that's what we should want)

The game's still not even in Alpha testing yet.  I personally still don't think the game will be out til 2011, they're saying this is going to be the biggest game they ever created and that they are going to add lots of story content, that is going to take some serious time.  It's taking them over 2 years to get a sequel out for Mass Effect and that's only a single player RPG, and BioWare is saying that the game will be much much much larger then all of their games combined.

I dunno but always rule of thumb, if Bioware doesn't announce it then it is just a rumor. Though it would be exciting if we all were able to get into beta soon :)

Yeah, the game has been in development for quite a while. There's going to be something coming pretty soon. I'm guessing a closed beta for 4 to 5 months, then an open beta for 2 to three weeks about a month after closed beta.

As for when the closed beta will start? That's anybody's guess. But I wouldn't be surprised if a very early closed beta was already going, or just about to go. Bioware is, after all, being incredibly secretive about this game.

Also, the mods on the SW:TOR forums sound like jerks. They seem to lock every thread in sight and ban every user according to the OP.

I predict that there will be a beta in June.

    Of 2010.

And that will neither be the start nor the end of the beta.

The game was called playable since before it was announced. Back in 2007 when it was labled as a "top secret" mmo some bioware dudes said they were playing it.

"I can say one thing: It looks awesome! [Laughs.] We can say a second thing, too: It's really fun to play. We're already playing it. We were playing it just last week." http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/dragonage/news.html?page=1&sid=6180866

On the day the announced the game at the press event they said the game was playable as well, though they said they weren't going to let the press play it that day : P.

So I find it a bit hard to believe it isn't in alpha if it is playable and has been for 2 years. Also remember that SWTOR has been in the works since before Mass Effect was done. As far as size/content you also have to remember that the size of the team changes based on what needs to be done and what the expected revenues are. A big MMO can bring in a lot more revenue than a single player RPG. So the bigger revenue potential means they can afford to have a lot more people on the teams.

I think they started working on the game Dec 2005, so if that is correct it's been in development for almost 3.5 years.  I some other statement recently I wish I could find again saying they were currently in alpha.  Personally I think June of this year is too soon, but I'd be thrilled if that was the case.  My guess would be closed beta not until later this year like Oct-Nov.

4 years for a big time company seems right so there will probly be talk about beta soon or at least bita sign up during june

This is the most ludicrous statement EVER.  Did you need read when they said they have hired over 20 writers to write story and content.  You are insane.  They fleshed out every quest like 2 years ago(exageration).  Read there damn developer blogs dumbass.

Yea, good stuff, I think I read some where that most of the writing process was done, they were finalizing and fine tuning the story lines. Those interviews where months ago already, can’t remember where the hell I saw that at. Any way, it'll be done when it's done people!! I'm about as excited as you can get from a SW fanboy so have patience young padawan.

Yeah even WAR had a pretty long beta and it won't have near the same amount of content KOTOR will. Though I don't think itll launch in as late at 2010 imo it won't be out any later then march. Also they might try to launch it around the same time as the new star wars series.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

While your most likely right, you didn't need to be this harsh. The story would have been one of the first things they worked on. Story is what Bioware is known for and they have been working on it since day 1.
