So many noob posts about how awesome some aspect of the game is and equally about how bad some of it is.
Look at population trends in mmo's today,
Fanboi's are in first, noobs follow all eager to try out what fanbois are yelling out, noobs short on cash listen to the trolls and play the wait and watch, the hardcore are all waiting on the sidelines, if the game is good after 2 months, they jump right in skill up/gear up real fast and pwn all in sight.....
The hardcore know all about tweaks, hacks, bots u name it....and they will use it knowing that their counterparts are doing the same thing, fair fight is an illusion in an mmorpg.
They will quit the game, in search of better after 6 months....the noobs are left along with gold farmers to keep AV floating for as long as they can.
What matters most is the DF Client, nobody with basic business and tech. knowledge will believe that DF will survive the year.

In other words "the noobs" are the real players and if your prediction is true then everyone should be happy with it only being "noobs" and gold farmers left after 6 months. Gold farmers are at least possible to live with as opposed to cheaters...
A real hardcore player would never cheat or hack. What happen to honor? Darkfall will most likely be ruined by its players and not AV.
Whats the definition of a cheater? u will find it hard to describe one in mmo's today.
Most people dont know the diff between a hack and a mod.
Look at WOW for example since it is played so much,
their client is lean, doesnt allow for too many cheats, however mods do let you gain an unfair advantage against players who do not use any, is that a cheat? coz the game wasnt meant to be played with mods in the first place, or is it just the tech savvy who score an easy edge over the rest.
While I agree on Darkfall failing sooner, rather than later...
Have you ever played an MMORPG before?
When you stand to lose all your gear, you will cheat since the temptation is too strong. One might probobaly be cheat selective based on what your opponent is doing, but one will still cheat.
Stop justifying cheating man its bad. Real bad. Dont do it no matter what.... Or you will go to hell!
You mean that those individuals prone to cheating in other areas of their lives will, of course, cheat here as well, if they can.
Right?????
actually, you can go now and read up on wow... it WAS built with players being able to mod it, in mind. that is easily verifiable and pretty indisputable.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Cause you know what we needed was a half-assed thread about hacks by some self-styled authority on "hardcore" [I am so sick of people bandying that about] and how noobs are...
Of all that is written, I love only what a person has written with his own blood. -Nietzsche
I'd like to point out one thing - Ultima Online was MORE client side than Darkfall, had the same death system, and still was moderated well - deterring most attempts to gain an unfair advantage. Again, one video has made people go bananas saying that Darkfall won't last a year.... how about you give it a month or two before taking a dump on the game? Let them get their stuff together.
Any forum troll on here should know how rare it is for an MMO to launch perfectly.
So the mmo world is broken down into 3 groups
Fanboys
Noobs
Cheaters
I wonder which the OP groups himself in. Based on his over simplistic view of gaming and his general disprespect for other human beings, I believe he falls into category 2 of his own mmo worldview.
I think its pretty sad that developers have to be forced into sacrificing the game experience to protect against hacks. Moving things that can be done effeciently client side to server side is pretty much a lose lose, as sacrifices must be made to account for the additional server load, and it still doesn't stop a lot of abuse. What is gained in security is a considerable lose in speed.
We have already received many reports on how well the game performs under heavier load. This would likely not be possible if many things were switched to server side.
I believe the right middle ground is not with prevention, but with better detection and banning. The latter accomplishes the same thing without killing the server, and might I add, is often more satisfying. Plus it forces banned players to buy new accounts if they want to play again, which provides additional revenue.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
The hardcore know all about tweaks, hacks, bots u name it....and they will use it knowing that their counterparts are doing the same thing, fair fight is an illusion in an mmorpg.
I'm almost 100 percent sure the true hardcore mmo population takes pride in knowing theyre the best they can be because they put effort and dedication and came through. Not to mention, you would be hard pressed to find a hardcore player who is willing to risk having their account fried if theyre caught. Too much to lose.
You're wrong. Mods are NOT cheating. Every player can use them if they want. Choosing not to is a choice. You're not going to get banned EVER for using them and the vast majority of them offer ZERO advantage over someone not using them.
If they made you runner faster or used your abilities for you and so I could see your point...but they simply don't. Not in WoW anyhow...and that's the game you referenced.
How Blizz treats mods is the perfect example of how all MMOs should treat them.
it is also 100% true that no player would want to lose his gear to an opponent with an unfair advantage.
I believe the "Fanboys" would like you to have "Trolls" as an option too, hehe, otherwise sort of fun poll.
'mods are not cheating' is a point of view, the purists will say it is.
What if i sync'd DF clients offline (to their server that is) to enable clans to function more efficiently, i wouldnt be modifying game data, simply routing packets to other clan 'clients' for better coordination among players?
is that cheating?
The true hardcore aren't sitting on the outside waiting. They are either already playing or doing their damndest to get an account.
You see, these hardcore that you are speaking about have been waiting for this game for years. They also have hardcore buddies as well. If they aren't playing it because they couldn't secure an order for it, they are talking to their friends who are playing it and loving it.
If you are truly hardcore, you wouldn't be sitting around waiting. You'd be in there enjoying yourself to one helluva fun cruel game.
