I have just started playing UO and so far its quite nice, I know it not all in glorious 3d but that really doesnt matter, I just want a game that I can get my teeth into and do what I want to do instead of starting at point A and killing stuff towards point B.

I just have some questions, I know im probably just comparing the UO UI to WoW but its kinda what I am used to and know what works for me.

1) is there a region channel rather than just a /say channel, which will never get answered when I have a question as there are no players near me.

2) how can I find the properties of an item before I buy it, i.e. im stood at the Armor NPC vendor in new haven at the mo and I want to buy a shield but I dont know if I can use it, so I dont want to buy it and find I cant use it.

3) are there any guilds who are on the Europa server that I could join to get some help to get me into this game?

Thats it for now... lol

So far UO is a VERY nice game.

To answer some of your questions:

    1. There is no regional channel because their are no "zones" to broadcast in. Simpy just go up to someone and ask them questions. Most veteran players are quite happy to out other players.

    2. To know if you can equip an item, which usually means if you are strong enough to wear or wield it, first check what your strength is. All armor and weapons list what strength you need to use them. If this is listed in Red, then you do not have the strength to use it. Additionally, some armor can only be worn by elves. These will also have the tag Elves Only on the item.

    3. As for guilds on Europia, try and get to know some people. Hunt with them, hang with them at the bank. There are guilds out there that will draft any warm body. Try and get to know the people before joining them. Joining a bad guild can be a recipe for disaster.

Welcome to UO, I hope you have a great time.
