Well Ravenloft is owned by White Wolf now, and Dragonlance is owned by the creators, as was done when WotC bought out the D&D rights from TSR so both are viable options
oO... Ravenloft owned by White WOlf..? CCP must hurry and develop WoD ASAP... I'm waiting for a GOOD horror MMO
About DragonLance... I've heard of the deal as well, but I also have a WotC DragonLance book based on D&D / d20... I guess they wanted DragonLance as RPG again...
Anyway, I'd vote for DragonLance as MMO as well.
[EDIT]
Checked the book... It's a D&D Campaign Guide (3.x). But the info included is low... You'd better get old 1st and 2nd edition AD&D and the books of Weiss & Perrin for background . Then again, all D&D by WotD lacks background - I'm still using my huge 2nd edition AD&D collection for background
We need some gangland MMOs along the lines of camp as in the Warriors or serious (take your pick of favourite Italian/Colombian/Mexican/Black/Irish/Chav/British/South American/Russian/and any other country/race movies and combine them). Its ripely set up for PvP action and for PVE maybe normal people wondering about as critters do in other games so can be killed but drop nothing and give no XP, and old school MMO style you have mob camps where NPC gangs and cops hang out to kill. Raids on army bases, police stations or major political centres such as city halls.
On another note, although Fallen Earth is coming, it lacks the cool of post apoc as epitomised in Mad Max 2.
The only problem with such MMOs is Devs are scared that we will become bored of just fighting human mobs. A different faction is just the same mob in a differnet skin. If any of these games are made you can guaratee we will have wild bears to kill for bear paws.
Deus Ex would also be a nice setting, even being hard to translate to a MMORPG world.
GTA MMO could be good, and I heard Rockstar might have interest in trying a MMO title.
Legend of Zelda MMO could be fun, but it's not going to be made, Nintendo barely does any ground breaking changes to the games, using the series for another entirely different genre is hardly expected.
Blade Runner Space 1999 War of the Worlds Mechwarrior
Please please please don't turn blade runner into a crappy space quest 10 vs. wow

I second quite a few said- Shadowrun, Dark Tower series, Sword of Truth series, Shannara series, Wheel of Time series (though thats in the works already), WoD (also in the works), Forgotten Realms, Dune, Gundam (preferably Wing or G), Fallout, and Serenity. And I'd like to add DragonBall Z, Naruto, Bleach, Marvel (though was in the works, as far as I know has been pushed into development hell), and Final Fantasy (based more on 7 or 8 or even X than that piece of crap we got).
Something like "Escape from New York"...where everyone is a prisoner of a huge penal colony. Could even be an entire planet like the movie "Soldier" or "Road Warrior" or an obscure PnP Rpg called "HOLE"(another prison planet but in a darkly humorous tone) or something like Terminator:Salvation...where the world is set after Skynet takes over. (tho it would probably not work..because of all the players who want everything completely balanced. Unless we could only play humans)
Also...there was an another obscure PnP Rpg called "In Nomine" where you play various factions of heaven and hell fighting each other on earth...I guess for souls..I can't recall. Still have the book tho..have to check it out. Similar game ..I think called "Nephilim" would also work.
How about "The Prophecy Online" ....."Study your math, kids. Key to the Universe"...

Marvel was being developed by Microsoft and Cryptic, I believe. Then Marvel , Microsoft or Cryptic (probably Marvel) backed out...sounds like they couldn't agree on the business model. Or one of them probably wanted to WOW it up or have cash shops. Anyway..Cryptic is making Champions Online instead..
You mentioned "Serenity"..wasn't there a "Firefly" mmo being discussed about 2 years ago?
I reckon an MMO loosely based on the book, Nineteen Eighty-Four would be great. A game based strictly on it may be a little more difficult or just plain boring though...
A new Matrix game would be good. The Matrix Online is pretty good but not nearly as big a hit as it could have been.
A full 3D Pok
MMOs played (In order of how much I've liked them): Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Vanguard, City of Villains / Heroes, Guild Wars, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Anarchy Online, Ryzom, Final Fantasy XI, Matrix Online, RF Online, Rappelz, Hero Online, Roma Victor

A new Matrix game would be good. The Matrix Online is pretty good but not nearly as big a hit as it could have been. A full 3D Pokémon MMO... oh yes... you know it... A Grand Theft Auto MMO would just be incredible. It could be like Free Mode on GTA4 but with quests, crafting and player-owned shops and apartments. Progression would be skill-based. Motorbike skill, Assault Rifle Skill etc...
"1984"...would be a strange mmo. You could work your way up in a Ministry..or be someone who re-writes history..or just be like Winston Smith and sneak out to the bad neighborhoods at night to have sex with a toothless old whore. LOL. What about an "Animal Farm" or "Watership Down" Style mmo? "Starship Troopers"? "Wing Commander"?
First off, I agree with previous posters that Harry Potter, Forgotten Realms and Dune would all be great MMO worlds.
My personal favorite idea is a MMO based upon LOST. It's got a great, huge island that would make for a lot of awesome zones, and with the time travel element in the show as it is in its 5th and then 6th and final season, there would be many adversaries on the Island to fight with, etc., plus it would have a lot of puzzles and strange mythology to keep players hooked.

That's a big plane.
There was a book series in the 80's called "Heroes in Hell"...where it detailed various historical figures from all times ..confronting each other in Hell...Gue Chevera heading resistance against Hitler. Napoleon and Wellington taking sides...Robert E. Howard and Ernest Hemingway taking a jeep across a hellish wasteland only to run into Gilgamesh..whom Howard believes is Conan incarnated...Many cool ideas..Even present figures(at the time) and fictional figures (who presumably died and went to hell in the future)...anyone you'd think of..all of them apparently went to hell..except I don't Think Mother Theresa was there. . Hell , off course, was timeless. Wierd concept and hard to explain the books unless you read any of them. Could probably be worked into an interesting mmo. "Riverworld" would be another similar concept..except it also includes fictional figures as well.
other than that, Shadowrun (which I think is in development), and Witchcraft would be awesome.
I ABSOLUTELY agree with you, Kataal. The World is already so developed, I think it would be incredible to actually be in that world and I think that it would in some way sate those looking for a skill-based game, from what I can see. All that, including the fact that I think it is always awesome to see other media surrounding your game.
PS I would also love to see a Sword of Truth game, but since Wheel of Time is on the way, I'll make do with it =D
What about a mmo based on Nightwatch? That could mix fantasy with modern settings pleasing both sides. The books have a good amount of lore already there.
i would love to see a forgotten realms mmo. i loved those old pc games. pool of darkness, pool of radience. i picture it looking similar to the style of AoC. also, the wing commander one would be a good idea as well.
As far as fantasy goes i only think their is one or two that have the right amount of lore and races plus world mass. Yeah, people say WOT but that series ended up just being damn right boring after the 678....you get my picture. The WOT world does not have enough races or classes to make a true epic mmorpg.
First is www.crydee.com/ if you have not read his books then i suggest you do. Start with Magician and then get lost in a vast world spanning 1000s of years of history and lore.

One of the best sci-fi series I have ever read are the 'The Amtrak Wars' by Patrick Tilley. That is made for an mmo. You have 3 major sides..
1 - Samurai warriors who follow their ancient code
2 - Barbarians / mutants that exist after the holocaust but some can cast magic
3 - the government with high tech weapons who live under ground.
So basically in an MMO you can play a fantasy type character, magic user or modern warrior. All 3 are PvP of course.
Other than that the Raymond E Feist series is a classic with multiple races, great maps and wars.
What about a mmo based on Nightwatch? That could mix fantasy with modern settings pleasing both sides. The books have a good amount of lore already there.
